One reviewer calls this "the first mizunara finish" they've actually enjoyed in a rum — and that Japanese oak is the whole point. Note: Employment at Perola GmbH (spirits industry), partial professional involvement in evaluated bottlings. All reviews are my personal, unpaid opinion. Mizunara cask comes through boldly. Nice acidity, intense tannins, light pepper and ginger spiciness balanced by not too much sweetness. Exciting! So far, probably the first mizunara finish I've liked in rum. It would be exciting to compare this with an unsweetened single cask.

Palate Round, balanced, naturally sweet, light wood, faint roasted, light caramel, faint chocolate, faint coffee, light coconut, dried fruit. Finish Medium long, round, naturally sweet, light wood, dried fruit, faint coconut, light caramel.

Hanse Spirit Hamburg February 2026. Serge warned me right away here, 14 g of sugar :) You can easily tell. Otherwise, lots of caramel, but also some honey and (young) wood is noticeable.

Tasted at Pueblo del Ron Nuremberg 2024. You have to try something like this at least once to be able to talk about it. I was most intrigued by the Mizunara cask. Unfortunately, the ABV is too low for my personal taste, but on the other hand, there is a dosage. Not for me.

Without a side by side comparison it is difficult the assertain the influence of the Mizunara cask properly. However, I think it added quite some complexity to the rum versus the Rye notes of the origin blend. For my palate it is still very much too sweet tbh.
