Almond and marzipan lead, backed by orchard fruit (apple, pear), citrus, light anise and young oak. This is Clarendon's MBK mark — the lowest-ester end of the range — so it drinks light and fresh for 23 years, more delicate than a funk bomb. Several tasters found the nose fine but a touch quiet, while the palate opens spicy with cardamom, licorice and honeyed sweetness.

Slightly very fruity nose with sweet yellow fruits but also citrus notes. The rum still feels fresh and youthful even though it is 23 years old! On the palate first sparkling and sharp, but after 1-2 seconds the spice and aromas come. Towards the finish dry and spicy. If you take your time with it, it offers a lot to discover - of course, it can't compete in intensity with other brutal high-ester Jamaicans, but here you find a very fine and aromatic rum.

Post-tasting of the three Clarendon Low Ester bottlings from the Rest & Be Thankful tasting. This is the one with the lowest ester content and yet brings nice notes of apple, pear, baked apple, vanilla and yellow fruits with wood and baking spices and almonds.

Master tasting from Rest & Be Thankful via RumX. A fine Monymusk. The nose is wonderfully fruity and hardly lets other aromas through. On the palate it is creamy soft with honeycomb sweetness and lots of fruit, developing aromas of cardamom and young wood over time. These aromas also accompany the finish, additionally with licorice and allspice. A very good MM.

#4600 07.02.2024 online tasting with Rest & Be Thankful. Nose Faint roasted wood notes, fruit, light, floral. Palate Faint wood, oily, fruit, light anise, naturally sweet. Finish Light wood, faint roasted, citrus. The empty glass has some chocolate and vanilla notes. Beautiful slow moving curtains in the glass.

Tasted during the RumX masterclass. Huge thanks the guys from R&BT for presenting their range! Very nice exploration of some low(we) ester marks. While some of the noses were a little light, the long aged expressions are very interesting on the palate across the board. Very interesting! :) I‘m pleasantly surprise. Despite the low ester content and short fermentation, there are a lot of flavors present on the nose and palate. Interesting profile.

A well-aged Jamaica rum with very low ester content, yet presenting appealing fruitiness and some nice spice and wood aromas. Doesn't blow your mind, but definitely tasty and very easy to drink.

After the RumX R&BT tasting on 7.2., tasted the rest again more calmly: As second rum a 23-year-old Monymusk bottling exclusive for Germany (Kirsch). The Marque MBK is the entry at the very bottom end. Still quite exciting. On the palate kumquat lemongrass, allspice, cinnamon, vanilla. On the palate citrus fruits, barrel.

Crisp fresh tropical fruits, pleasant residual sweetness, slightly bitter hints of wood and subtle nutty marzipan. Spicy finish with juicy fruit notes. Intense and pleasantly complex. Appealing, multi-layered, even if it lacks that certain something required for absolute top class.

Since I couldn't join the tasting due to the German Railways, I'm catching up now in peace. At first impression, I think it's a bit better than the RX16272 I had in the glass before. But I wonder where the price comes from.

There are five different Clarendon monymusk bottled by Rest&Be thankful mostly in the low ester range compared. Thanks to Thunderbird for providing the sample leftovers from this RumX tasting. The winner for me RX18817-->Mark MMW and with esters of 224.2 gr/hlpa the highest value is ahead for me, then it gets a bit tight. This one with the lowest ester content is an easy sipper, brings plenty of orange and is mostly dry. Nice entry into this tasting. Relatively light and quite drinkable.

Rest&Be Thankful Tasting: nice change from the Assemblage. Rather spicy. For me more hazelnuts than almonds on the nose. Plus clear barrel influence, vanilla and cocoa-rich chocolate. To be continued.

RumX/Kirsch online tasting Rest&Be Thankful! 23 years old and with just over 60 gr/hlpa esters really very low. A light pot. Nose: very light and finely aromatic, almost a bit grassy-fresh, citrus fruits and honey sweetness upfront, behind that unripe gooseberry and a bit woody. Somewhat unspectacular but nice. 7.8 Palate: clearly more intense than the nose. Sweet-spicy. Lots of anise, licorice root, and licorice. Behind the sweetness sour-peppery then again licorice and pleasantly salty-bacon-like. Very interesting. 8.4

Part of the Rest & Be Thankful tasting (thanks to RumX and F.L.O. for sharing). Nice and interesting event. All candidates had a very nice nose. I liked the LSO and MPG profiles best. Overall, I often missed the tropical aging. Here from nose through palate to finish with a nice almond note.

Almonds and bright stone fruits. Apples & pears. Cinnamon on the nose. Young Wood & spices join on the pallate. Great selection by Kirsch for Germany. Short finish unfortunately. Feels much younger than 24 years. //update: same verdict, solid low-ester rum

Tasting with Rest & Be Thankful on 07.02.2024: Very flavorful low ester rum with very fruity notes. The impressions on the nose and finish were not as intense as expected. Overall still a very fine rum.

Very soft on the nose, fresh and fruity (green pome fruit), citrus notes. On the palate a decent alcohol note that almost burns a bit unpleasantly. Notes of almond, cinnamon, cardamom, apple and apricot. Good monymusk but in my opinion not optimally balanced.

Unfortunately only a mediocre rum, as the balanced nose is still okay, but in the mouth the intensity is missing and I find it hard to identify profiles. The spicy finish doesn’t last very long.

Rest & Be Thankful Tasting February 7 Incredibly good nose, smells like a Mai Tai, nice almond note with some fruit and nutmeg. On the palate mainly dried fruits paired with an exciting anise note.

Quite clean and 'dry tarry' on the nose, fruit in the background. Opens up with some air but surprisingly fragile to flat. Almond, vanilla, young wood and some citrus come through. Lots of punch for 55%, but just narrowly avoids being alcoholic. A hint of fruit brandy & grappa, very fruity in its 'rawness'.
