Cadenhead‘s Caroni TMCG (The Nectar) HTR 1998
"Nice and very enjoyable 98 Caroni," as one taster put it — and that's the read. Smoky wood, tar, rubber and a tropical-fruit thread over an oily palate, with Bourbon-cask fudge notes and the classic "dirty" edge. Not the filthiest Caroni around; a couple of members even call it a touch one-dimensional. At 62.8% it needs a few drops of water.
- Classic Caroni funk
- Oily texture
- Long smoky finish

Not my best Caroni, but the result is not bad and the finish, though a little short, is pleasantly sweet.
Review by Thunderbird
On the nose, the rum is still quite restrained ... but on the palate it unfolds its potential... the typical dirty Caronino notes and a slight freshness! The alcohol is well integrated! Oily it distributes itself in the mouth! The finish is so medium long ! A good Caroni

Very direct in profile and taste, Caroni. Nice and dirty but not too much. Tastes a little like bourbon fudge to me.
Review by Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰
This one has a bit of a bit from the ABV so I added a few drops of water to round it off a bit. The water releases a lot of wonderful flavours. The nose intense and has smoky wood, tar, rubber and fruit trailed by leather. The palate is intense and complex with smoky wood, tar, rubber and fruit trailed by leather. The finish is very long with smoky wood and pineapple and some rubber.

Very solid Caroni - does a lot of things well. Not a stunner but also was back from the days when Caroni was a bit more affordable. Enjoyed trying this in the shop at the time.

Sample tasted before I bought em today, nice dirty Caroni and still affordable! 6/10/24: alcoholic

Nice and very enjoyable 98 Caroni. Nice oily texture on the palate. Overall more on the sweet side with noticeable Bourbon cask notes throughout. Moderately dirty.
Review by DosenZorn
Tasted as a 2cl sample and my first Caroni. On the nose, the often described bicycle inner tube. Dirty rubber and smoke, mixed with tropical fruit. The taste then tends more towards smoke, tar, burnt wood and red fruits with a long-lasting finish of fruit and woody bitterness. I really like it and am looking forward to the other Caroni samples.
