La Favorite Exploration No. 6 2022

Best in a petit punch or over ice — that's where this young Martinique agricole shines. Fresh, round sugarcane leads, with a touch of vanilla, chamomile and white flowers, but the alcohol runs a little hot and the profile stays fairly one-note. A few tasters found it wild-grass and citrus fresh; others expected more from the limited "Exploration" name and felt it drinks very young.

The community says
  • Fresh sugarcane
  • Round, oily body
  • But: Runs hot

Tasted at Spirits Days in Tournai, quick notes: Nice cane, a little vanilla, and not much else. I was looking forward to it, perhaps I imagined it too much... In short: unfortunately, it's the favorite's cane, fresh and round, but it's very young, and doesn't seem very interesting.

Avg Rating 8.1/10 over 220 Rums

La Favorite is the last working distillery inside Martinique's capital, Fort-de-France, and the island's longest continuously family-run house. Five generations of the Dormoy family have made rhum here on a 1906 steam engine that still turns the mill. It is agricole at its most unvarnished, and the community treasures its old La Flibuste vintages as some of the finest aged Martinique rum there is.
