Rum and chocolate tasting of Rum Club Switzerland and RumX Community Tasting Fiji 2001. Exactly the same score. A nose of tropical fruits and varnished wood, vegetal and young woods. The entry on the palate is ample, easy and complex with cedar and yellow fruits. The finish is beautiful with vegetal, cedar and fruits but a bit short, we would like to keep these aromas longer. A rum that seems easy to access and has a nice complexity. Beautiful aromas in the empty glass.

RumX Fiji Crosstasting April 2024 Place 2/8 The youngest from the blind tasting set. The younger age also knows how to convince and is in 2nd place for me. Well deserved. A well-rounded overall package that covers the entire palette with the typical Fiji 2001 profile.

RumX Fidji 2001 Cross Tasting: The youngest contender in the line-up made a real good impression and came in 3rd place for me. Intense with some sweetness. This one delivers on fruitiness as well as dirt and brings a bit more liveliness versus the older expressions. Cheers to Jakob!

Thanks to Jakob for the chance to enjoy a wide range of the Fiji 2001 releases. Although I had tried some before, the result surprised me again, as my previous favorite ended up last. Although I have to say that due to time constraints I didn't give most of them time to develop. So here is the result from the blind tasting, which differs from the scoring.

Some migh consider this a light rum, but it's one of the best Fiji rums I have tasted. Fresh and fruity with some grass and flowers on there. I really like the smoky wood finish that last for a good while. On the first sip it is kind og heavy but it settles after that. Leave to rest for a good while and all the goodness comes at you. Leave the glass once empty and whif it after a couple of hours, pure joy I can tell you.

A very balanced rum. On the nose sugarcane and honey. On the palate very relaxed yet intense with honey-sweetened white tea, subtle wood notes and yellow fruits. A great balance! The finish gets a bit more serious, woodier and somewhat medicinal.

Fiji 2001 Community Tasting – big thanks to Jakob for organizing this blind tasting. A great vintage and a comparison not without surprises. The bottom of the pack for me were the two Rum Artesanal, both of which I didn't finish. Particularly disturbing was an unpleasant juniper off-note (strongly pronounced in rx15398, somewhat better but still disturbing in rx7779). Then for me the actual bottom (so very good / with the right markers), but just not as great as the others, was Rum Cask rx479. Surprisingly, the next place for me was Isla del Ron, which already has a small reference status in my heart since I tried it. But in the blind test it was overtaken by the delicious Whisky Jury (rx13025) and then by the sensational Cave Guildive (rx1717). The Cave Guildive represents for me the winner of the classic Fiji 2002 profile and is really top. I rated higher only the Flag LMDW Antipodes (rx13440) ... this one is clearly woodier but also ultra delicious. It was also clearly recognizable blind and made the photo finish just millimeters behind the Plantation rx11133, which probably stood out because it was so un-Fiji2001 and has a great glue-caramel Guyana nose. Conclusion: Typical Fiji winners are the Cave Guildive on the fruity-honey-feelgood side and the Flag on the woody side. The Plantation is the wildcard winner. The two RA bottlings are the ones that remain far below the level of the other two.

wow! this is my new reference Fiji Rum!🤤😍🇫🇯super fresh mint, some English Breakfast Tea, apricot, baked croissant with citrus jam.... the nose is awesome but the taste can do more:mint with black tea again, apricot, tangerine, grapefruit, honey, vanilla, allspice and clove and then in the finish again fresh mint but also some mocha, roasted almonds and pineapple with cocoa, all underpinned by glue and solvent. Really dirty and intense horny shit!

2001 remains a strong vintage from the Fijis! Surprisingly for me are the dirty notes, which lean strongly floral and remind of mint and black tea. The typical burnt and sun-tanned plastic takes a bit of a back seat here and blends harmoniously into the overall impression!

A radiant rum that brings a smile. The nose translates into a real indulgence both fruity (banana, pineapple, orange, apricot) and pastry-like (honey, custard and some morning viennoiseries). Although the whole is soft and very round, the profile retains a certain aromatic intensity, notably on medicinal and floral notes, which come in a second time to complexify everything. A fascinating and enticing nose. On the palate, the profile gains power and heaviness. Dried fruits, tropical fruits and apricot come first, followed by a syrupy sweetness on honey. Spices and medicinal and empyreumatic notes gradually take over the palate before succumbing to a wave of floral freshness that perfumes the senses. The alcohol is very well integrated. The finish is long, more smoky, salty, spicy, tannic and medicinal. The empyreumatic notes are more pronounced, accompanied by the freshness of menthol and aromatic herbs. The sweetness of the fruits is thus more succinct, but this is not so disturbing, because the profile varies and gains complexity. A superb bottling, very balanced, easy-drinking, complex and sure to delight lovers of sensations.

A great aroma on the nose, which is already recognizable far from the glass. Tea, hay, cooked fruit (plums and cherries) stand out, later also some apricot. In addition to the fruity notes, there is also a somewhat heavier sweetness, reminiscent of molasses and subtle hints of pastry. In the mouth, dominant tea notes emerge at first, along with fresh plum and menthol. A subtle spiciness of allspice and clove on the tongue. The finish is introduced by pepper. This is followed by more alcohol, plums and the gentle bitterness of black tea. Overall: A real "Brett" with endless aromas. Somehow fresh and at the same time heavy due to the fine interplay of the numerous aromas. A great representative of South Pacific rums that combines all varieties: sweet and fresh fruit, gentle bitter notes from the tea. Exceptional.

Also a top bottling of the vintage. At the same time light yet powerful and complex. Herbs, honey sweetness, wood, black tea, smoky, mocha, spices like licorice. Fun to discover the rum. Compared today slightly less nuanced with not quite as much power and layers as the LMDW and Rum Cask.

RumX Community Cross-Tasting "Fiji 2001" (by Jakob): Fruity, with a minty note on the palate and in the finish. Less dirty than the other representatives. No/hardly any rubber etc. Nevertheless a very tasty rum.

Today a Fiji cross tasting. Competing are: - Cadenheads 2003 13yr - Isla Del Ron 2001 19yr - Cave Guildive 2001 15yr - The Duchess 2004 15yr The Cave is quite a tough nut, 2001 in pure culture.😀 The nose is intense, lacquered, woody and slightly musty. Black tea wood and this smoky bitter characterize the palate. The black tea finish is very dark and smoky.😀 For me, rank 2 in the ranking.

What a Fiji rum, an incredible bomb, one of the best 2001 Fiji rums I've ever had. In the nose incredibly fruity and floral, on the palate very fruity and stays present for a very long time.
