Sipped neat this hits hard: glue, esters and solvent up front, then ripe banana and pineapple wrestling with young, spicy oak. One taster called it a "little gem," and most were surprised how well one year in virgin oak tames a 64.9% TECA. Several found it even better as a mixer, where the funk carries. Short, dry finish is the main knock.

A rum tasted at the GRF in 2024, S.B.S. Masterclass. A nose with marked esters, warm rubber, tropical fruits. The same aromas are found on the palate and the finish is long but marked by these aromas of rubber and tires. A rum with beautiful esters but the rubber is too present for my taste.

Surprisingly well integrated alcohol for just under 2 years of aging in a virgin oak barrel. Really a good example of a young cask strength. The Teca mark also comes through great here, very successful! Still, I probably wouldn't buy it 😃

A heavy, grimy young Long Pond in the making. The nose is strongly medicinal, with esters, solvents, glue and varnish. The fruit is ripe, not to say fermented (banana, pineapple, redcurrant) but enhanced by the oak barrel, which sharpens the nostrils. Spices support the woodiness. A rather complete, intense and varied profile for its young age. The attack on the palate is powerful, funky like the nose, but a little more mineral. Tropical fruit and red berries open up before the sweet, pastry notes come through. The spicy woodiness is lively, stinging the palate slightly, but at the same time rivalling the ester-like heaviness of the profile. The alcohol is well integrated. The finish is lively and dry, but unfortunately lacks length. Wood tannins are marked, as are spices, roasted notes and burnt sugar. Phenolic notes are less present, as are the fruit, very much erased by the astringency and spiciness of the profile. A quality Long Pond that's pleasant to drink, but needs further aging to gain in complexity.

A really beautiful TECA has everything you would expect from it. Lots of ester and funk. Quite good on its own. But it only reveals its true potential as a mixer. Nice thing, I'd like more of it.

Well that was a surprise. TECA seems to work pretty well with fresh Wood. It feels like the fruity Ester components were delivered in a wooden box. Sound a re-tasting and I am still surprised by this little gem.

#5263 19.04.2025 Enjoying some samples while watching the TV series Grimm. Nose Medium intense, wood, faint smoke, ester, light glue, fruits, light banana, light citrus, spice. Palate Medium intense, wood, light roasted, light glue, ester, light banana, faint citrus, spice. Finish Long and warm, light oily, fruits, banana, light glue. Empty glass Fruits, light citrus, faint chocolate, light vanilla, light banana. Needs to rest for a while to really open up properly.

And here we have a really good Jamaican. As expected, we have tropical fruits and lots of esters on the nose and palate. Pineapple and banana are almost always recognizable. Really good rum :)

TECA on wood. Somehow the virgin oak works surprisingly well here, even though I'm beginning to realize why it makes sense (or did?) to use bourbon barrels. The marrow is strong enough to hold its own here. And produces a nice duel. Worth a trip!

Another young wild TECA and another positive surprise. Although personally I like the WRHS#1 much better. The combination in the S.B.S of the fruit testers and the young cask is well chosen and creates a good tension on the palate. This is also a very good mixer.

Super intense and berry-sour. Successful combination of high-ester and wood. The young high ester rum definitely dominates, but the virgin oak cask brings a slightly dampening sweetness and vanilla note. However, I only found that after I got used to the rum. It was the first of the day, might be due to that.

Fair rating. Tasted during the S.B.S. tasting. Nice young TECA. On the nose lots of Christmas spices, also reminds a bit of incense sticks. On the palate then the full ester power with some glue and solvent, slightly sour.

What can I say: esters, glue, alcohol and double of everything. The Virgin Oak Cask left some caramel notes, but overall it's too young and too brutal, even if the esters are already fun. With a lot of standing time, the not so well integrated alcohol also dissipates a bit. Value for money is rather poor: 80 € for a one-year-old? Rather not.

Very intense high ester rum. On the nose mostly the young rum. Lots of esters with clearly fermented fruit. Should breathe at least 30 minutes. Surprisingly sweet on the palate. The wood influence is very good. Alcohol present and not an easy sipper. Everything very intense.

In the nose dominate all kinds of technical tones, but they are nicely softened by tropical fruit. I feared the short aging time unnecessarily. Taste excellent, tropical fruit and esters. Bitterness comes later, but nothing terrible. For just one year in the barrel a very successful piece.

What a surprise On the nose, a real Esterz background of glue and olive. On the palate, lots of movement, fruit and wood on steroids. Medium-bodied and slightly spicy, but not without interest. A nice surprise.

Very short finish. You can tell it has barely aged. The ester hits strongly, dry, then briefly buttery and salty. Very nice, hits the taste, but more unruly than some white rums. If it had a bit more aftertaste, the rating would be higher.
