Extremely special rum. Fermented, almost rotten fruit, brine like kimchi, medicinal notes like iodized ointment, plus a subtle acidity... A flavor you really have to like. Unfortunately, it doesn't suit my taste. Sweet, sour and salty at the same time.

The rum was very exciting for me on the nose and also on the palate, as many aromas interact. Definitely a great Grand Arome from Galion. However, it would overwhelm me for an everyday evening. I would go for something else.

Evening bottle killer: SBS Le Galion 2019 – 60.3% Alright... UFO incoming. We're definitely in Martinique, but forget immediately the classic image of the island and its ultra-restricted AOC. Here, no cane juice: we're talking about a molasses rum distilled at Le Galion, a distillery mostly known for its Grands Arômes used in perfumery, pastry, or to boost blends. 👉 Distilled in 2019 at Le Galion distillery 👉 Aged about 4 years in new oak barrel 👉 Bottled at 60.3% by 1423 World Class Spirits (S.B.S) 👉 Only 324 bottles In short, a rum that announces its colors even before opening the bottle. In the glass: The color is quite light yellow — logical given its young age. On the nose, it's powerful and disconcerting: vegetal, herbal, with that solvent/ester very Jamaican side. You find olive, tropical fruits... and an atmosphere almost evoking the pharmacist's waiting room. Blind, many would clearly lean towards Savanna. On the palate, it's a real firework. It goes all over the place: vegetal, freshly cut grass, raisins, varnish... An experimental, wild, almost undisciplined rum. The finish remains just as intriguing, on cough syrup, with a more tannic dimension brought by the new barrel. 💬 Verdict: Typically the kind of bottle made to trap friends in blind tasting. Once the UFO is accepted, it's a fun, complex, and ultra-disconcerting rum. And personally... I love that. I like when a rum shakes up the landmarks and sparks debate around the table. 🤓 For the geeks: it's in the same vein as the Le Galion 2019 bottled in 2021 by Rumstylez, but that one was reduced to 50%. And you, do you like rums that completely break the mold?

Tasted this at SDR23, so my review remains rather concise. On the nose rich in fruits such as plantains, grapes and some raisins. This sweet, lightly tannic, sensation is brutally interrupted by a dominant paint thinner note. A ‘leafy’ heart, for lack of a better word, that takes the nose in a rather fresh direction, with plenty of gardening peat and potted herbs. In the mouth very sweet and as a result quite ‘cognac-y’, but with pleasant added complexity of soil, bark and solvents. Freshness supplied by sugarcane, herbs and foremost sweet mint, finished with an extremely minty backlash. This was one of the pleasant surprises at SDR23.

My first experience with Grand Arome rum and i love it. On nose there is lots of overripe fruits, and rotten notes. Musty and meaty notes. Little bit of technical notes The palate consists of overripe fruits, solvents and iodine. Little bit musty and meaty, maybe a little rotten. It'a followed by mint and hay. Finish is warm medium to long with mint, tannis, tropical fruit and iodine. Actually I can't compare with another Grand Arome bottle since this is my first encounter. But to me it's an awesome bottle. I would rate this bottle over 9 if the finish were just a little longer.

I got to know this rum at a tasting in a Cologne bar with a friend and was very impressed. I like Agricole rums and so I had to get my own bottle. I like the multi-layered deep smell and taste of the rum. Also the higher alcohol content makes the tasting an experience. I'm glad to have discovered such a good drop.

Another funky one from the French Antilles. Opulent, aromatic, smooth at this ABV. Load of iodine notes, a balanced smokeyness. Some funky fruits, medicinal and a hefty dose of aromatics and menthol deepness.
