Planteray Sealander
"Cinnamon and coconut cake" is how one member sums it up, and that's the whole picture: heaps of cinnamon, coconut, vanilla and milk chocolate, with a tonka-bean note that shows up again and again. It drinks soft and syrupy at 40%, closer to a spiced rum than a dry one. Most call it a friendly starter blend; the sweetness is the sticking point for seasoned drinkers.

Wer tonkabohne liebt muss hier definitiv zugreifen. Was ein Brett. Tolle Aromen. Der Zucker ist nur ein klein wenig zu stark eingestellt. Ich liebe ihn da ich tonkabohne liebe. Mega aromatisch mit vielen gewürzen. Sollte man unbedingt mal probiert haben

Unspectacular, but drinkable. Has a gin-like quality. Sugared? However, a perfect starter for beginners or a longer tasting.

Masterclass with Alexandre Gabriel on 04.04.2024. Plantation becomes Planteray. It's definitely too sweet for me. But for the price that is being asked, I think it's a fair sweet entry-level rum. Definitely suitable for baking.

This relatively new "navy-style" blend brings together three regions. Barbados (FWI), Mauritius (Saint Aubin) and Fiji (south pacific) are represented. The blend contains rum made from both molasses and sugar cane juice. At the beginning, there is a lot of cinnamon on the nose, sweetness as well as some fruit and spice. This taste, which is reminiscent of amburana wood, is also clear on the palate, which I find to be over the top in combination with a little too much sweetness. Nevertheless, a decent blend for beginners.

Uncomplicated, surprisingly complex blend. Red fruit jelly meets tonka bean and some wood and milk chocolate. Relatively mild and relaxed. Could do with a few % more. All in all, however, a really well-rounded number and a nice daily sipper not an unusual but harmonious combination of Mauritius, Fiji and Barbados - which could be unique to date! The price is very fair, even with the presentation.

04.04.2024 Online tasting wit RumX and Plantaray. Retasting and I stick to my score. ---------------- #4478 17.11.2023 Nose Light wood, olive, dried fruit, sweet, herbs. Palate Light wood, light roasted, dried fruit, sweet, salty, orange, pineapple, light coffee Finish Medium long, wood, light roasted, dried fruit, faint caramel. Not really me but good for beginners and probably also for mixers.

The nose is very intense for the low ABV. Much going on here! Rich fruit basket and spices. Also surprisingly tasty and complex on the palate. I like this more than expected. Only a bit too much sweetness for my taste. Thanks to Alexandre and the RumX Team for the masterclass!

Bottle Market Bremen October 2024. Now a Plantation, the Sealander. A little too sweet for me. Nose consists of chocolate and various spices. Then chocolate and spices on the palate, as well as some vanilla.
Review by Alex1981
Easy sipper on cinnamon, milk chocolate, vanilla. Nothing tok exciting and rather weak on palate & finish, but probably great for beginners. //exit: the wife likes it, although she has no preference for rum at all. i take that as a good sign :D

A young blend of varied origins, this Plantation stands out for its partial aging in amburana casks, which gives it toasty notes of tonka bean on the nose. There's plenty of sweet spices (vanilla, cinnamon, pepper), wood, caramelized notes and fruit (grapes, banana, coconut). It's sweet and very approachable, but lacks a little finesse. The attack on the palate follows the same pattern as the nose, with dominant notes of wood, sweet spices and fruit (coconut, dried fruit and red berries). There's milk chocolate behind a syrupy texture. It's easy to drink, but lacks character, especially with the terroirs from which the rum comes (Fiji, Mauritius in particular). The finish is classic and sketchy, sweet on caramel, very marked on cask and spices with a hint of coconut. Not a bad cuvée, but one might expect a little more from an original cuvée like this.

It's OK. Tastewise I am under the impression that it might be adulterated, like some added flavours and sugar. But if that is the case, it is done with care. I am heavily reminded of a thick sweet orange marmelade, which is not really what I taste but somehow I get this association. Conclusion: drinkable.
Review by Jakob
The nose and palate have a very distinctive note - I think of tonka beans, sweet pipe tobacco, red fruits and floral notes. There is a certain artificial aroma to the whole thing, which unfortunately quickly becomes too much for me - although the flavor would appeal to me apart from that. What I am really looking forward to, however, are creative cocktails with this rum as a base - there should be some interesting areas to play in. Bartenders, your call!

Planteray RumX Masterclass by Alexandre 04.04.2024: I would probably have liked this 10 years ago. Today it's too sweet, too weak, too thin for me. Yes, there are lots of aromas, the cinnamon note is nice. But everything is drowned in sugar.

A great companion for common sailing. An interesting blend of Fiji, Barbados and Mauritius from molasses, not matured but an acceptable value for the price. Ideal for rum first timers with dosage 20g/l.

Read full review →A relaxed and quite complex rum blend with exciting aromas that are rarely found in this form and clearly reminds me of the cachacas from the Umburana cask. In my opinion, however, the rum would have benefited from a few percent more and a little less sugar. But that's probably the view of a rum nerd who loves tasting distillates at cask strength. For the occasional connoisseur who would like to try a few new rums, the Plantation Sealander could be an exciting experience due to its dominant tonka bean flavor.
