Just one year old, yet this Long Pond TECA packs a punch most people don't see coming. Expect a nose full of glue and nail polish, then sour pineapple, green banana and a salty-licorice edge, with vanilla and coconut from the virgin oak taking the sharpest corners off. One taster called it a young rum with real "fougue" — energy that older Long Ponds trade for polish.

The Virgin Oak (my guess) takes off the edges quite well. A lot of coconuts and vanilla alongside the high ester profile. Combination of the TECA fruitiness and the oak notes make a pleasant combination. Quite tasty.

Online tasting of various TECA and TECC organized by Mirco. First of all many thanks for the great split to be able to try them all side by side. Now I had to readjust a few ratings.

The aroma is incredibly versatile and eclectic. The nostrils are ambushed with sour pineapple, green kiwi, redcurrant and lime juice. It’s unforgivingly harsh in the sense that the little sweetness that is present can’t possibly stand up to the overwhelming acids. Vanilla and candied fruits take the edges off a bit, but it’s really ginger, green pepper and frankincense that break through the fruits’ dominance. The same trend continues on the palate. Still -admittedly a little less than expected- very sour. However now balanced with green banana and freshly baked sourdough. It’s heavily spiced with salt, pepper and dried ginger. And despite having noticeably less incense, it’s still quite smoky. Only this time campfire smoke and phenol. The finish is phenomenally long as I could taste vanilla incense for over an hour, even after drinking water. On the shorter end there is sour pineapple, vanillapod and medicinal notes, and unfortunately a slight alcohol burn. Tasted this alongside the NOTDD HD <>H 2y, which I liked very much and in hindsight is more rounded. Even so, this LP is still a very strong representative of what a young Jamaican can achieve.

I love it! For such a young aging, what a fire. I had only tasted very old Long Pond before, and here I manage to find many characteristics: esters, ripe fruits, varnish, salty licorice, all less mellowed by longer cask work. But there’s still a very interesting woodiness.

Retasting at Whisky Live in Paris 27.09.2024-30.09.2024. This time I got some notes 😊 Nose Intense, ester, faint wood, glue, fruits, overripe, banana, light citrus. Palate Medium intense, faint wood, faint olive, fruits, overripe, light pineapple, light citrus, ester, light glue, faint iodine. Finish Long and warm, faint wood, faint smoke, fruits, light citrus, light polish, ester. Next round of the post-tasting of Mirco's LP Tecc/Teca Community Tasting. Just picked the next number. On the nose rather continental with more nail polish/ester. Then more almond/marzipan/wood/fruit on the palate. Possibly a shorter-aged high ester in a small cask with lots of wood exchange à la RDL?

Tasted blind as part of the Long Pond TECA/TECC community tasting: The barrel influence is clearly noticeable here. This makes it a little more relaxed to drink. Woody aromas, some coconut, vanilla and other spices are added.

On the nose, lots of solvent and a very smoky side. Glue like Cleopatra, anchovy paste. Not really my thing. Again, some rotten exotic fruits. The alcohol is quite well integrated, and the aromas in the mouth are less wild than the nose. Which stinks quite a bit, to be honest. You find quite a lot of esters but in a more fruity register. There are also quite spicy spices (chili). The finish lasts endlessly in this heat of stewed chili in exotic fruits. Note: 82/100

MicrosBlind-Tasting TECA/TECC No.4: I would never have placed this bottling at Long Pond... it's too sweet and has a pronounced coconut note. It has more the aromas of a Belize with LP finish. That's not my taste.

On the nose, tons of glue, behind that dry but intense fruits. On the palate even more glue, but also more fruit. The alcohol pushes hard. After a while the glue fades a bit, the fruitiness remains. Intense stuff, very powerful.

The scent mixes nail polish with fruit and leather. On the palate, I detect tannins mixed with the sweetness of sugar cane...the taste is quite sharp and prickly. The finish is short, dry and leathery... For me an interesting sample, I would get a bottle and enjoy it when I want to taste something different, unusual, unusual..than like the rum I normally drink.

Enjoying the last drops of this bottle... A nice high ester Jamaican. It is fruity, spicy and has a very enjoyable sweetness to it which reminds me of marzipan. It also goes very well in a daiquiri, 15-30ml is enough.

SITS 2025 Nice dirty LP dunk in the nose and some citrus to balance it out. Palate is a bit watered down like you expect from The Nectar, but you still get LP flavours. Recommended bottle for this price tag!

Nose Varnish, polish, acetone. Leather. Intense tropical fruit; jackfruit, lychee. Glue. Overripe banana and raspberry-like past fruits. Rotten stone fruits; like Maltese plums or apricots. Nice spiciness; cinnamon sticks and black peppercorn with oak spice, Palo santo from behind. Dark chocolate, ripe pineapple. Obvious nail polish remover, thinner. Incense. A slightly dusty side. Spray paint. Chocolate supermarket pudding. Fresh ginger and pickled green peppercorn. As another user pointed out, a slight green bell pepper sensation is felt. Complex but especially in the first moments dominated by esters (especially ethyl acetate) on the nose. Could be more balanced but still enjoyable! 85 Palate Quite tannic. Body maybe a bit below medium. Sweetness and acidity balance each other. Slight toasted coconut chips, toasted bread even burnt bread. Some cocoa and coffee. Slightly green olive, although glue and varnish come from below, not as dominant as on the nose. Not particularly sharp. Definitely doesn't show the alcohol level, especially doesn't want dilution. Tropical fruits here; synthetic passion fruit, jackfruit and lychee. Rotten pineapple and rotten banana. More balanced than the nose, good! 86 Finish Here forest fruits like raspberry and blackberry appear. Toastiness still present. Black olive paste. Transmits its aromas vividly with medium-high intensity without tiring the drinker. Vanilla is not so pronounced on the palate and very slight camphor and menthol notes. Long finish. Tropical fruits still here; jackfruit peaks, pineapple follows immediately, lychee more in the background. Slight umami side like mushroom broth at the back. Maybe earthiness or leatheriness again (?). Again bell pepper. Really impressive here. 87 General impression: The direct hanging on the palate at the finish is very enjoyable! Despite a dominant ethyl acetate character in this bottling, there was a noticeable complexity. The tannicity of the virgin oak is borderline but I count it as a positive feature. Needs time in the glass but no water wanted. Good! 85 Total: 86 Price-performance: Medium-good! Would I buy again?: It wouldn't upset me to have paid this money for this bottle.

Shockingly productive aging for such a young rum. It manages to capture a lot of the beauty of the long aged TECAs from NRJ and Velier for a fraction of the cost.

08/11/2025: tasted @ Spirits In The Sky 2025. A nice dram to start the festival with. A rather young TECA from Long Pond, bursting with flavour and esters. Depending on the price you pay, this is a nice bottle to have.
