A rum tasted at Whisky Live in Paris in 2024 and Community Tasting Enmore 1990. No. 7. Caramel, wood, pastries, all with a slight acidity that balances out this rather addictive nose. I catch myself standing over my glass for a long time, and I can make out some cannabis. On the palate, the caramel notes have taken on a slight bitterness, which is not to my displeasure. Prunes, cannabis and fruit replace the pastry notes. The finish is obviously long, with a woodiness typical of an old sailing ship. Some fruit and a slight pepperiness, incense. For me, the best Sponge rum today, and also the best of the Enmore 1990 tasting.

Blindtasting Enmore 1990 No.7: This bottling seems to have a finsh again... and is again not my taste. Too fruity and too artificial. The actual Enmore profile is thereby suppressed But I think that this one will also find its friends

So the last 5 Enmores from Alex tasted his cool split again. All from the same vintage and quite similar in profile, although there are certain differences in my opinion. As a conclusion for me, not bad, but the profile is currently just not the one that completely picks me up.

A particularly dark and elegant Enmore 90, which overflows on the nose with beautiful spices: cinnamon, anise, vanilla bring a warm and wintery profile, accompanied by elegant and roasted wood, leather and coffee. You perceive raisins, notes of red wine as well as a subtle touch of pencil shavings. The nose is somewhat altered but positively by this viney side, which gives an intoxicating and attractive Enmore. On the palate, it is a refined Enmore that reveals itself: the spices and licorice keep their liveliness, while the wood, leather, coffee, caramel and cola bring a darker and bitter facet to the profile. We find a smoky side, pencil shavings, dried fruits and a slightly acidic side from the wine, which adds complexity to the blend of flavors. The whole is very elegant and aromatic, with alcohol and wood very well integrated. The finish is neither very long nor the most spectacular but it holds its share of surprises. We find this slight acidity, this bitterness, this spicy, smoky, brown side and this delicate woodiness. This "Enmore-like" phase is accompanied by fruits, which resemble wine (grape) and tobacco which consolidates the finish to balance everything. A very beautiful bottling from Decadent Drinks, which selected a perfumed, slightly pimped but very endearing Enmore for its aromas.

8,8:On the nose, red wine hints, fruity with dark berries, grapes, dried fruits, slightly sulphurous, barrel impact is obvious with toasted oak notes like nuts, coffee, leather, spicy with anise, vanilla, cinammon, floral molasses, vegetal with soy sauce, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, molasses is thick, waxy, dark with licorice, black tea, citrus fruits, cherries and prunes arise, metallic patina, dirty touch, chocolate, allspice. 8,7:On the palate, the attack is fruity with dried fruits like figs, raisins, apricots and prunes, orange, grapefruit, red wine hints like grapes, red fruits, sour, dry, tannic, dark with roasted wood notes like chocolate, coffee, leather, walnuts, smoky, spicy with anise. 8,8:The finish is long, dry&tannic, slightly metallic, dirty, industrial with petrol hints, fruity with dried fruits, grapes, plums, dark with licorice, vegetal molasses, floral, earthy with tobacco, oak is charred/toasted, spicy, smoky, meaty, sherry barrel impact is obvious. #4864 Whisky Live in Paris 27.09.2024-30.09.2024. Another great event meeting a lot of RumX new and old friends. This year three weren't as many new releases as in 2023, but I still had a great time. Nose Wood, light roasted, plum, light berries, faint smoke, raisin, faint leather, faint coffee. Palate Balanced, complex, wood, light roasted, faint smoke, light anise, berries, light coffee, faint orange. Finish Medium long, round, balanced, wood, faint smoke, medium dry, dried fruit, plum, light anise. A pretty good rum once rested and warmed in the hand, the price tag can be discussed, but on the other hand it's an old rum 😊 Wood integration is pretty good considering the age.

Community Tasting Enmore 1990 VSG/MEV as a blind tasting. Rum7 Great dark nose. Nutty, with coffee, dried fruit and a fruitiness like wine. Also glue. Delicious. Certainly a finish with a barrel of fortified wine. Just as tasty on the palate. Knocks the 5 off first place. Grapefruit also present. Tasted were: Rum 1 = rx1560 Alambic Classic Rum 2 = rx3280 Cave Guildive Rum 3 = rx12797 RDL Rum 4 = rx 1432 Rum Nation Rum 5 = rx 5924 Duncan Taylor Rum 6 = rx 5423 Moon Import Rum 7 = rx 17311 Rum Sponge Rum 8 = rx 12427 Greenheart My ranking: 8 > 7 = 5 > 6 = 3 > 4 = 2 > 1

Very pleasant sipper with a pronounced, almost tangible coffee note. Unfortunately very rare and expensive. Tip: Long bottle oxidation does the rum very good. Edit: After another glass I have to raise my rating again. The rum is really excellent.

RumX Community Tasting - Enmore 1990 (thanks to Alex!) Beautiful, heavy, fruity nose. Definitely went through a finish, but which one? Port wine? Not too sweet on the palate. The finish has something of the sherry. The whole thing is quite exciting.

Cross Tastinge across 12 bottlings of 1990 Versialles destilled Enmores. Looking at the cask strength / 50%+ ABV bottlings in the line up (CG, DT, Duchess, Greenheart I & II, RdL, Sponge, TWJ), all deliver on the classic Versailles notes: Pencil, herbs/anis, some continental fruits and a wet/moldy woodiness. Quality wise I don’t see an outlier tbh, all very enjoyable. Noticeable, however, is a very intense nose on the Sponge, which adds lots of resin and „woody“ notes to the mix,probably paying tribute to its (partly) maturation in wine casks. This is clearly outstanding out of the batch. Bonus points for the older Greenheart and TWJ for highest intensity on the (continental) fruit notes for me. DT and The Duchess gravitating more towards spicy notes in the mix. Same overall verdict for the palate. All rums in the batch are of high quality and there is no dramatic outlier (good or bad), except for the Rum Sponge. While I enjoyed the nose, on the palate the bottling is overwhelmed by wine notes. As for a lot of finished/double matured releases I just don’t see the point and here don’t like it particularly. Among the other bottlings: the DT is particularly nicely balanced with a pleasant sweetness working nicely with herbal and more darker notes. Very enjoyable. My favorite on the palate is probably the younger Greenheart (at least in this sitting). Almost as balanced as the DT but with a bit more anise and herbal notes for a bit more excitement. The older Greenheart is also very nice, with a bit less sweetness yet also very nicely balanced. TWJ and The Duchess are overall a bit more in the harsher side concerning alcohol integration, yet still very good. Very strong bottlings of the vinatage overall and a pleasure to have some side by side. Cheers to Alex for curating (most of) the tasting set! 🙌

An interesting outlier among the 1990s Enmores. Superficially only reminds of Versailles to a very limited extent, the very heavily burnt barrel that was used for storage has a strong aromatic impact and brings in clear notes of smoke and tobacco. There is also some minerality, tart spices and menthol on the finish. The balance is there, the alcohol nicely integrated, the aromatic scope convincing - subjectively, the smokiness is not quite my preferred aroma field, therefore not quite in the top group of 1990 Enmores for me, but qualitatively an impeccable rum.

No7 of the 1990 Enmore Tasting, thanks to Alex Kunath. 1st try: Quite fruity nose, and a very different aftertaste, which has some ash and smoke. 2nd try: The fruity nose is much less, and I get more malt and nut flavours, the ash is also not as powerful as before. Strange what lots of oxidation does. Not a favorite of the bunch, but still solid.

Wood. A lot of wood and leather. Nothing else ... Enmore - drive still, now just a working still. Probably the only wooden still in the world that is very popular. The Enmore rums have a flavour of ash, leather, heavy wood, which will delight especially the lovers of whiskey. And if in the traditional Guyanese way the producer adds a little molasses to the rum, you have a unique very distinctive and heavy rum in the bottle. One of my favourites.

Have been dying to compare these two Guyanese rums for some time. The 1992 Rum Sponge Enmore 29 yr rum from Enmore distillery was my first venture in quality Guyanese rums and it immediately became my all-time favourite rum ever. I have since had to purchase the older 1990 Rum Sponge 32 yr rum, bottled at 53.6% ABV compared to 58.4 %ABV for the 29 yr. On the nose I immediately recognize the wonderful Guyanese rum aroma, similar to but a lighter version of the 29 yr. My first sip does not disappoint, so good! This is definitely a top tier rum, one of the best I’ve had but still a ways to top the 29 yr, which remains my favourite amongst the 300+ rums I have tasted thus far.

In my opinion the most unusual Enmore 1990 MEV there is and will remain due to its barrel aging and finish. Very woody, dark and powerful on the nose and palate. Especially interesting is the cinnamon taste like Big Red chewing gum! Unfortunately, the typical MEV profile can only be guessed in the background.

RumX Blind Tasting 8x Enmore 1990 Rum No. 7 No longer recognizable as Enmore in the blind tasting because of the finish. The finish destroys the profile. I find the licorice stick in the finish interesting. Many thanks to Alex for organizing this!

Woody, dark sauced. An animal side, leather, plastic, quite disorienting, happy earthy floral tobacco. Aeration does it a lot of good, it evolves from average to very very good.

Blind Tasting Enmore 1990 by Alex: I'm guessing wine finish, probably Madeira, very spicy, cinnamon, cardamom, Big Red, black tea. The rum is somehow interesting, but the finish clearly masks the base. This is no longer recognizable. It's not my cup of tea.
