The surprise here is how drinkable almost 62% turns out to be. That glue-and-solvent Hampden opening gives way to overripe pineapple, banana and mango, with marzipan and a peppery, spiced backbone. Several tasters call the alcohol well integrated for the strength. A few find it a touch too acidic or "slightly too astringent," and enthusiasts note it isn't quite as complex as the celebrated 2002 HJF.

Hampden as I like it. Strong, intense, straight to the point. Intense tropical fruits and dried fruits, allspice, cinnamon and star anise as well as yeast dough and almond croissants, some vanilla yogurt and passion fruit and salty like olive and caper brine. Very very awesome, tasty, dangerously drinkable and balanced! The 2002 Plantation HJF is even way cooler!

This is a difficult case for me.... I miss the overripe fruit on the nose... the acidity is too high for me... the yoghurt and olive content doesn't quite fit for me either. The palate and finish are more to my taste. The fruit and wood are in harmony here Edit: I mistyped the scale 😌

Immediately a lot going on in the mouth: a real ride. Feels like a “Hide and Seek”: aromas appear, disappear again and make room for new ones. Very varied and lively. The nearly 62% are well integrated. Taste-wise a modern Jamaican, where both esters and alcohol are very harmoniously integrated. Harmonious overall picture. Planteray impresses me more and more, a great bottling.

A Hampden nose, without hesitation. And a good Hampden at that. Fruity, funky, solvents, esters. It feels like it's going to explode on the palate. The impression is confirmed. It's very good. It's intense, but the alcohol is well integrated. Fruit, esters, wood, solvents, glue. It all blends together beautifully. Super Hampden.

Very nice bottling. Ticks all the higher ester Hampden boxes imo. Very fruity and well balanced with notes from the cask and some roasted notes. Very intense while very easy to drink despite its high ABV.

Wow, this Hampden is a real bomb too. Well, not much to say that sets it apart from other Hampdens :) Tropical (overripe) fruits like banana and pineapple, lots of esters, and also solvents.

Typical intense Hampden with a clearly ester-forward nose presenting overripe tropical fruits like pineapple and banana as well as solvent-like notes. On the palate, a powerful combination of fruity ester fullness and peppery spice with a hint of clove and nutmeg. Although the profile feels slightly astringent due to the high strength, overall balance is maintained, giving a stable, harmonious overall impression.

A Hampden with a forgotten mark (HJF) that nevertheless offers an unforgettable experience. On the nose, the avalanche of overripe tropical fruit fills the nostrils, with notes of marzipan and caramel providing a ton of deliciousness. On the other side, esters, phenolic aromas and brine provide the funk. An indulgent, powerful and balanced combo. The attack on the palate retains its power and roundness to create a delicious, easy-drinking profile. A fruity tsunami sweeps across the palate: banana, pineapple, mango, passion fruit and lime give character to the medicinal notes and spices new to the mouth. The whole is a delightfully round, yet lively and well-balanced. The alcohol is well integrated. The finish, while not revealing any new flavors per se, is as generous as it is long and intoxicating. It's a real concentrated funk, with fruit, pastry and congeners. A superb Hampden that defies all competition in terms of value for money.

At first, the nose is full of glue, varnish and solvents. Over time, the sweet/ripe tropical fruits become more and more apparent. Alcohol well integrated. In direct comparison with the OB HJF 2008 (RX12021), I couldn't identify a loser. I like both bottlings very much and - unsurprisingly - they are quite similar. The PLV should be positively emphasized here again!

Tasting a 3cl sample. 👃 A very good Hampden, combining intensity of aromas and power of esters. Overripe fruits to start, island spices, lots of spices, roasted almonds, olive brine. The alcohol seems very well integrated. 😋 Warm, extremely drinkable, with fruits to start, tropical and dry. Then still lots of spices, marzipan also with touches of vanilla ice cream. Empyreumatic flavor on some varnishes and burning essences. The alcohol is as well integrated as the nose suggested. ⛳ Long, warm, intense, esterified, on tropical fruits combined with the contribution of the cask. Some spices and dry vanilla. Classic and balanced Hampden profile, where the acidity of esters and the spices of the wood (star anise, red chili, pink peppercorns) surpass the overripe fruits (pineapple, passion fruit, jujube). 💡 A very nice bottling that makes you want to discover the giants of the genre such as Plantation HJF 2002 and Old Brothers HJF 2008 Esters & Co.

After the 2002 Plantation (RX10636) and Old Brothers 2002 (RX11172), this is the third HJF I get to try and I'm thrilled for the third time. Without direct comparison, from memory, I found the two 2002s a bit better, more complex, fruitier and with better integrated alcohol.

I like the HJF Marks and Plantation again delivers a nice tropical fruit basket, esters, wood, and olive. The alcohol is well integrated. Unfortunately, this bottling brings a bit too much acidity.

Rich frangipane, burnt sugar, Patex glue, and overripe to vinegary tropical fruits typical of Hampden, tamed by the Ferrand cognac finish. This one softens everything with a bit of apple and grape. Lots of indulgence on the palate and a woody side that structures it all. Appearance of iron and sulfur notes that might make me think of a sherry finish. Nice integration of the alcohol.
