Most tasters land in the "really good but not top-tier" camp — one calls it the best ITP they've had, others find it pleasant yet not memorable. It's a low-ester Long Pond: overripe tropical fruit, pineapple, caramel and a medicinal, glue-and-varnish edge, with plenty of oak. At 62% the alcohol reads well-integrated, though a few drops of water opens the fruit and softens the wood.

After the discovery of the live whisky, which had thrilled me, I took the time to taste it again this evening. I'm still very impressed. A great ITP, especially on the nose. I really love this nose. Superb balance between fruit, wood and a gourmand side. On the palate, the woodiness tends to be a little too present, through a little bitterness that quickly blurs the fruitier aromas of the beginning. Too bad, but it's still a great rum. Another very fine plantation release in the top-range Jamaican range, at a price that's not at all unreasonable today for 20 years of age.

Edit after I had a duplicate sample again, tried it again and corrected my rating a bit upwards. At the end of the year I spontaneously tasted again with Serge shortly before lunch. Plantation surprised me positively again with this bottling. Alcohol is well integrated. Nice medicinal notes in the mouth.

8,9:On the nose, slightly medicinal, tropical fruits like banana and pineapple, mango, red with cherry and citrus fruits, stewed, barrel impact is obvious with roasted wood notes like caramel, brioche, cocoa, marzipan, pastry, fruitcake, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, yellow fruits arise, some raisins, candied fruits, metallic patina joins, burnt sugar, vanilla, meaty, peppery touch. 8,6:On the palate, the attack is intense, slightly alcoholic, bitter with medicinal notes(mentholhints), briny, vegetal molasses, later flowery, grassy, spicy, roasted wood notes like caramel, pastry, roasted nuts, fruitcake, vanilla, allspice, peppery, fruity with tropical fruits like banana and pineapple, passion fruit, mango, dried and citrus fruits, candied. 8,8:The finish is long, dry&tannic, funky, but balanced, fruity with tropical and citrus, dried fruits, fermented dairy hints, molasses is grassy and oak toasted with caramel, toffee, vanilla, warm, meaty. Another low-ester Long Pond. Also an appealing bottling, but not remarkable for me. I simply miss the esters and distinctive aromas to make it special. So it remains one among many!

Off the top of my head, I would say this is the best ITP I've had in a glass so far! Significantly better than the ITP-15 (which was rather disappointing for the price) but also even better than the already pretty good Rum Songe No.17.

Sehr fruchtiger low Ester Long Pond, den ich blind nicht als ITP erkannt hätte. Bringt auch relativ viel Süße mit durchs Ferrand Cask. Es überlagert aber nicht die Esternoten, die kräftiger sind als sonst beim ITP. Im Abgang noch Gewürze. Ist nicht schlecht, aber hat mich auch nicht restlos überzeugt.

Good Long Pond to finish. Naturally also typical Jamaica, tropical fruits (of course banana and pineapple :)) and also lots of esters. Otherwise on the palate also quite spicy and woody, caramel is also recognizable.

A surprisingly fruity Low Ester Long Pond, which I probably wouldn't have identified as ITP blind. The finishing in Ferrand cask brings noticeable sweetness without covering the ester aromas – these are even more pronounced here than usual for an ITP profile. Spicy notes also appear on the finish. Overall solid, but it didn't quite grab me. Still, many thanks to saibotzar for this exciting split!

A low ester Long Pond with energy to spare. On the nose, a quartet forms between exotic fruity singing, spicy wood giving percussion, esters and notes of glue and varnish giving the tense side of string instruments, and pastry aromas of brioche, marzipan, and caramel blowing like wind instruments. The concert goes very well. The alchemy continues on the palate, offering a beautiful symphony between the cask, soft spices like vanilla, pepper and mild chili, phenolic and medicinal flavors, and tropical fruits with citrus giving roundness. While it has a fairly complete profile, it loses some character on the palate in favor of greater softness and lightness. The 62% is well integrated. The finish is drier, warmer, spicier, but no less fruity, indulgent and pleasant. It is very long and leaves medicinal notes coating the palate with glue, varnish, esters and tannins. A nice juice all in balance, a proud flagship of its distillery.

Complex rum with a clear influence of dried fruits, warm spices and a ripe wood note. In the mouth, dark berries, licorice and bitter herbs combine to form an exciting overall picture. The alcohol is well integrated, the structure feels balanced. Despite the rather unknown profile, the bottling convinces with character and depth.

It takes a little for the rum to open up, but then relatively many fruity notes of sweet/ripe tropical fruits, spices, and caramel. The longer I smell it, the more I like it. On the palate then slightly astringent with tropical fruits, spices, wood, a bit of menthol and licorice. I like it very much!

On the nose unmistakably Long Pond. A great tropical fruit with some acidity and spice. Plus a light brioche sweetness. Despite the 62%, there is almost no alcoholic sting on the nose. Also on the palate, super integrated alcohol. There’s an interplay of wood notes (I even found two small charcoal particles in the glass) and citrus fruits. The tropical notes and their sweetness are barely present. This is a great rum, but on the palate it doesn’t quite suit my taste. I miss the fruity sweetness I really like in Jamaican rums; instead, there are roasted wood notes.

For an ITP surprisingly funky, dry, super astringent and intense. Citrus zest, papaya, caramel, menthol, slightly smoky and spicy. Overall a bit sharp and not as smooth as hoped. Still one of the most exciting ITPs to date!

A pleasant ITP. Compared to others, you can feel more esters and funk, even if light. Nose and palate are close. Medium length. At 62°, I expected better but the alcohol remains very well integrated. Tropical fruits, vinegar, butter, vanilla: these are the markers characterizing this rum. Not transcendent but very pleasant!

A rather consensual and unsurprising Long Pond. It's a fruity profile. The esters are present but not excessive. Very spicy. Strong and warm. The alcohol is a bit too sharp for me. Nice but I expected better.

Tasted at Whisky Live. Very good but I feel like I've drunk hectoliters of Long Pond of this style with the Plantation brand (cognac barrel finish). I especially think of the Extrêmes which seemed to me to have more character. It could be interesting to do a head-to-head tasting.

Nice, tropically aged LP, which however cannot quite keep up with the top bottlings in terms of depth and complexity. Still very nice and uncomplicated to drink.

Slightly woody aroma, strong alcohol content. You can clearly feel the 62% in the mouth, especially under the tongue. Neat, the high alcohol content dominates a bit too much for me, so the flavors get overshadowed. With a few drops of chilled water, it develops a very soft aroma in the glass, reminiscent of ripe fruits with a bit of funk. As always, it's about finding the right balance. With three drops less water, the fruit notes would have stood out even more. All in all, a solid rum that I'd like to try in a cocktail sometime.
