Silver Seal Enmore Demerara New Vibrations 1988
Here's the surprise: 34 years in wood didn't automatically make this better. The base Enmore is gorgeous — prunes, leather, dark chocolate, dark wood, that ashy Demerara depth. But several tasters feel the cask went too far, leaving it thin and drying on the palate. One member simply called it "too woody." Still deep and characterful, just past its peak.

How does Silver Seal Enmore Demerara New Vibrations 1988 taste?
From community reviews · summarized with AI
Deep old Demerara, a touch over-oaked Loved for its dark, prune-and-leather Enmore character, but many feel it sat in cask too long — thin body, short finish, wood dominates the palate.

A rum tasted at the WLP in 2023 and 2024. A splendid nose with prune, wood, varnish and a hint of leather. The palate is rather (too) tight, woody and tannic, but with lovely stewed fruit. A fine finish, a little too woody, with a refreshing menthol at the very end. The rum is a little thin and tight in the mouth. I expected better. Rated the same in 23 and 24.

An Enmore with well past its prime. The nose is not unpleasant, with spices, licorice, leather, dark chocolate and wood providing a rather round and elegant profile, accompanied by pretty prunes and Demerara sugar. The whole is pleasant, but not as complex as other Enmore bottlings. The palate reveals more herbaceous and tannic notes. The wood has taken its toll, limiting the aromatic potential of a rum that is clearly out of date. The relatively low alcohol level doesn't help the wasted sensation on the palate, despite the lovely Enmore spices, leather, prunes and dark wood. The substance has been better. The finish is ephemeral, thin, light and clearly not up to scratch. Tobacco, coffee, spices, woody, roasted and caramelized notes, dried fruit and tannins. A rum that falls far short of the distillery's and bottler's standards, with too few trump cards to play for an exorbitant price.

Unfortunately, it seems very thin, at least in view of other Demerara releases of a similar age and from the same vintage. The basic product remains inspiring, but a bit too flat here.

Per se very nice with a deep dark profile. Chocolate, wood and dried fruits. Unfortunately, it is rather thin on the palate and the finish isn’t too long which puts this one rather towards the bottom of bottlings from this vintage.

Tasting note. The bottle apparently had enough time to breathe and developed excellently – an outstanding old Demerara with dried fruits, chocolate, wood, spices, and leather.
Review by TheJackDrop
Really tasted on the bottom of a glass, so it's hard to tell, but clearly it's wise. Perhaps even too wise, obviously 34 years old is a mark. The fruit and wood are there, but next to that it's timid, and after a roller coaster of 5 intense rums, here we see a few ageing flaws. It's still very good and ultra affordable, of course.

WLP 2024 I first tasted this pair of old Demeraras half a year ago at Whisky Life Paris. Today, I’m coming back to them calmly at home. The color is very dark, on the nose intense dried fruit, leather, wood, and a hint of apple. The taste is intense, oily, full of wood and leather. Beautiful long finish. Awesome!

Don't keep great rums in the cask for so long. It could be much better if taken out 8 years ago. Woooooood! ... Enmore - a drive distillery, now just a functional distillation device. Probably the only wooden distillation device in the world that enjoys great popularity. Enmore rums have flavors of ash, leather, heavy wood, which especially excites lovers of smoky whiskies. And if the producer adds a bit of molasses to the rum in the traditional Guyanese way, you have a unique, very pronounced, and heavy rum in the bottle. One of my favorites.

WL 2024 Another one I missed last year. A very elegant old gentleman that strongly reminds me of the Enmore 1990 reduced by Moon Import.
Review by Martin Švojgr
In the taste, plums, dried fruit, a bit of burnt caramel (Demerara), but it lacks fullness and a long finish.
Review by Niko
Too bad, it stayed in the barrel a bit too long which gives some flaws despite a rum of great complexity and a typical Demerara character. It's still very good.

A bit lacking in voltage
