Un rhum dégusté au WLP en 2023 et 2024. Un très beau nez typique de Demerara avec des fruits secs, des pruneaux et du boisé assez lourd. Une bouche avec trop d’amertume, dûe sans doute au (trop) long vieillissement en fûts. Une belle finale, mais trop amère aussi. Pas de fraîcheur ici, hélas. Un rhum très déçevant par rapport aux attentes, mais que j’ai trouvé un peu meilleur en 2024.

Eh bah, c’est un sacré loupé pour Silver Seal. Le nez part pourtant sous de beaux auspices avec le côté sombre et épicé qu’on reconnaît chez Port Mourant (café, cuir, réglisse, boisé), des pruneaux et des notes herbacées sur le thé noir. Le profil est doux et plutôt subtil mais manque de corps pour embaumer pleinement les narines. L’entrée en bouche signe le début de la fin. On a ici un véritable jus de bois qui a passé trop de temps dans le fût et dont le degré d’alcool ne fait qu’accentuer le sentiment de dilution et de pauvreté aromatique. C’est très amer, sensation renforcée par le cuir, les herbes et la réglisse, beaucoup trop à mon palais. Le côté végétal et médicinal ne donne pas grand chose à ce rhum dépourvu de structure et de teneur en bouche. La finale sonne le glas et le verdict est sans appel : elle est inexistante. Mis à part un soupçon de cuir et d’herbes, l’amertume du bois a complètement effacé l’identité de ce rhum, qui n’aura clairement pas marqué les esprits. Un rhum beaucoup trop altéré, au potentiel dépassé et au prix absolument démesuré et déconnecté de la réalité. Je ne comprends pas ce qui a poussé Silver Seal à commercialiser ça, on est à des années lumières des standards habituels de la maison.
