This a great complex rum that holds true to what you expect from hampden. As soon as you pour it you get the tropical fruit, pineapple, banana, and ester nose even from a few feet away. The taste and finish have a swirling evolution of tropical fruits, solvents, caramel, wood, spices, and citric acid.

On the nose a nicely balanced Hampden profile. Medium ester level showing some grilled pineapples with fruity acids alongside roasted notes. Creamy texture on the palate, again with roasted notes and plenty influence from the cask. The GH 2023 is definitely a very nicely executed and accessible bottling form Hampden without any rough edges.

Blind tasting 01.02.2024, 2nd rum of the evening Nose: But now Jamaica! Some kind of low ester, I would say. Palate: A little too sour for me, seems one-dimensional, but the alcohol is well integrated. But stick with Jamaica. An HGML? The Younger perhaps? Resolution: Wow, the latest GH, really? I would have expected more.

A most typical Hampden, with a very conventional register. The nose evokes tropical fruit (banana, pineapple) and citrus (orange, lime), with a medicinal framework of phenols, esters, solvents, a touch of varnish and glue. It's both funky and sweet, but nothing sensational. On the palate, there's a slightly more pronounced attack of candied fruit and fermentative notes. Phenols and tropical fruit remain in the basic framework, but a spicy, slightly caramelized brisée gives the palate a little change. The rum is fat, syrupy and oily, as round as it is funky. The alcohol is well integrated. The finish is correct, more tannic and astringent, with big markers of lime, banana and roasted pineapple, on top of which come the medicinal notes of esters and the sweetness of spices. Although not bad, this edition remains fairly linear and loses impact compared to other Great House bottlings.

A balanced yet lively nose. Fruit, fruit, solvents and a hint of fermentation. On the palate, mostly fruit, with the solvent/fermented side present but in the background. The finish is mostly fruit and long. The aromas fade very slowly and in a balanced way. A fine rum, not exciting but better, for my taste, than the 2020 and, above all, very different.

It's almost a tradition to get the Great House and then compare across the board. So far, of course, they are all very similar, even if the blended marks and their proportions differ slightly. The classic Hampden aromas can of course also be found here: Ester, vinegar, ripe banana, pineapple, lemon, a slight caramel note, varnish... But now a direct comparison with all its predecessors: 2023 vs 2022: Nose: Fuller, deeper and more balanced, less fermented, more caramelly. Seems more mature and much better overall. +++ Palate: more caramel, slightly more bacon, less fermented esters, rounder and more mature, better. ++ 2023 vs 2021: Nose: less vinegar, less fruity, stronger, more intense and slightly woodier, I like it a little better, + Palate: very similar, if not the same. - 2023 vs 2020: Nose: less fruity-sweetish, more powerful, slightly woodier, more intense esters, but less fermented. Different, but the same on. - Palate: more mature, less astringent and less bitter, rounder. + 2023 vs 2019: Nose: less sweet fruit, less marzipan, stronger and woodier, coarser esters, also different, but same on - Palate: less marzipan, less freshness, slightly riper, less woody, slightly better. + What can I say, after the cross-comparison, the new 23 GH seems to be the same and slightly better than my previous favorite 2020. Therefore an 8.3 overall Afterwards, I honestly had to adjust all the GHs downwards by 0.4 points, as there are now much better Hampdens, especially single casks. Now the ratio is right again.

Edit: Tasted it yesterday after the 1994 Crosstasting at DomM as a mixer with Coke as a nightcap. It can really do something and became a bottlekill. Franconian Tasting Gang For me, another beautiful Great Haus that fits seamlessly into the existing bottlings. A nice profile that I like at the moment.

Unfortunately, not really mine. In direct comparison with other Hampdens, this profile seems quite young, it actually evokes subtle fruit brandy associations for me and seems too young overall. Of course, the Hampden character remains recognizable, but overall the tropical fruit impact is too short for me here.

There's no doubt about the origin of this rum: this is Hampden. All the usual hallmarks are to be found in this rather successful Great House. It's hard to classify it against its predecessors from memory. I'd say it's right up there. I'd put it lower for its slightly higher alcohol content, which makes it less accessible for my tastes.

Bottle’s gone, might as well rate it 😁 I’ve enjoyed it. Lovely fruits meet essters in the nose and overall good balance in the mouth. Slight bitterness that remains in the finish. I think it’s my third favorite GH, after 2020 and 2019.

Very nicely balanced impression on the nose. It is noticeable that there are not only high esters in the blend. Quite restrained for Hampden. I also find ripe plums - unusual! Much more happens on the palate! Lots of fruit and spice, a slight bitterness from the cask, In the finish, the bitter note increases a little and is a little too much for me, because it overpowers the fruity sweetness. A very good Hampden blend with lots of tannin at the end.

It tastes like Hampden, but it's not as much power as Hampden or is. The 57%ABV fits nicely and is nicely balanced. A little disappointed was my first thought, but is that it? Maybe you just expect too much when it says Hampden. Update: After some time in the glass, it opens up more and I get a little more flavor out of it. Still, I don't think it comes up on the side of the 2021 edition.

The Hampden DNA is clearly recognizable. Very fruity nose with tropical pineapple and a nice spiciness. Ester and glue are also present. No further surprises on the palate. A beautifully rounded blend. Although the GH series is more about the collection idea than the rum.

Tasted blind again today. The order remains the same and only 2022 and 2023 were mixed up. Overall, the 2019/2020/2021 vintages have earned the name Great House for me because they simply taste really round, even knowing the differences in terms of color. The 2022 and 2023 vintages are significantly lighter with less depth but in my opinion more buttery. Hampden Great House Crosstasting 2019-2023. The 2023 is definitely the weakest of the bunch. Nice and round but almost nothing at all from the cask. Great Dailey sipper but nothing that stands out from a lot of Hampdens. For me the following result: 1st place 2020 2nd place 2021 3rd place 2019 4th place 2022 5th place 2023

Unmistakably a very pleasing Hampden. Very round, but with few characterful corners and edges. Typical Hampden profile, but little ester, classic fruit basket, lots of banana and some caramel. Good Hampden, but not an outstanding one. But a nice easy sipper.

This is a relaxed way to start the day, with a nice Hampden. Great nose consisting of tropical fruits and some ester. The palate also has tropical fruits such as banana and pineapple as well as a light ester flavor.

Probably the Great House that I have enjoyed the least so far but that’s not to say it’s bad. On the nose you have all the familiar fruit and ester notes along with caramel, barrel, funk and solvents. But it is a little more tempered. Given that this is LROK and HLCF, this has esters but it’s no ester bomb. On the palate it is a tiny bit disappointing. You get the heat up front with some bitterness settling into esters, spice, barrel, glue and of course fruit (although this ain’t a fruit bomb). All in all this one feels a bit young. Decent but not one I find very exciting, even as a big fan of Hampden rums.

It seems relatively similar to the GH22, not quite as much ester, but the profile is very similar. A direct comparison will show whether my first impression is confirmed. I would be interested in the composition of the blend. In direct comparison with the GH22, the GH23 is a little too "vegetabley" for me and too bitter on the finish.

From the way it spins in the glass it seems light, watery ... little glycerin , little body . just opened it seems a lot of banana over (HLCF), Hampden bouquet , sharper pineapple. Mouth a little thin , warm, a little unbalanced ... After 20 minutes it becomes pleasant , good drinking

GH Tasting 2023–24–25 Starting with the 2023: This one is fine – some esters, a bit of glue, spices, and a clear citrus note. The alcohol is well integrated. All in all, nothing that really blows my socks off, so no buy recommendation from my side, especially not at a price of over €100.

My first Hampden from the Great House series. Had expected more esters. Tropical fruits predominate on the nose, mainly pineapple and ripe banana. When it has taken a breath, I can also detect some mirabelle plum. But the mirabelle plum doesn't come through on the palate. Pineapple and banana predominate here. I don't find the alcohol so well integrated, you notice the 57%, the first sip was a bit burnt. But that could also be because I haven't had any high-proof alcohol for 6 weeks and need to get used to 50+% again. All in all, it's delicious, but I had hoped for a little more. For my taste, Hampden could be a bit bolder.

Ich werde einfach kein Fan der Great House Reihe mehr. Das ändert auch die 2023er Abfüllung nicht. Alkohol ist gut integriert und das ist auch immer noch Hampden Qualität. Fruchtig, wenig Ester. Aber Irgendwie langweilig. Da finde ich die Maverick Abfüllung deutlich besser.

On the nose you immediately recognize the Hampden profile, tropical ripe fruits mixed with some wood with esters. On the palate, the GH2023 seems a little young but the typical Hampden profile is already recognizable. Fun, but I find the 2022 a tick better.

Again great house, again perfect funky ester thing, even though it won't be the best of todina GH, it's still a super hampden. The initial fruity notes and tongue pinching quickly transitions into more technical notes and leaves a nice long finish in your mouth.

Like a lot of stuff completely forgot to review this one. Not bad! Not as good as the 2020 but a solid value and excellent in cocktails too. I prefer higher esthers in my hampdens though, this one’s a bit light to really get up there.

A Hampden tasting, with Great House 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023, plus the. New Beginnings and both versions of the Pago. Of the Great House, I like the 2022 and 2021 best, even if I don't find the overall differences very big.

Hab die Flasche schon ewig hier stehen. Irgendwann muss ich ja mal probieren. Die Erwartung war nur so mittel - wurde aber etwas übertroffen. Typischer Hampden ohne große Überraschung. Schöne Mischung aus Klebstoff und vergorener Ananas. Nicht besonders spektakulär, aber trotzdem eine Empfehlung wert. Mir gefällts.

Nose rather fruity with some caramel and cask ... without much ester. Then fuller on the palate with a nice consistency. Tasted it in the Franconian Tasting Gang against the 4 predecessors (19-22) and the New Beginnings. Although the 23 has less ester, it is strangely similar in style to the 21.

The nose lacks concentration. Blind, I'm not sure I'd have gone for a full tropi. The markers are there, but mostly the fruit, very little solvent. On the palate, it's relatively well integrated, but the aromas fade quickly, with a slight touch of empyreumatic. Not a Hampden to be remembered.

Ein wirklich runder Blend von Hampden, bei dem die Ester zwar eine Rolle spielen, aber nicht Alleinunterhalter sind. Aufgrund des gut integrierten Alkohols kann der Rum auch sehr lange im Mund gerollt werden und seine ganze Aromenpalette ausspielen. Einzig die jungholzige Bitterkeit beim Antritt stört mich ein bisschen.
