Sample from the 13th GRF. I remembered Takamaka as not so exciting. Let's see how this one is, with a bit more %% alcohol. Nose: quite young, which shows in the alcoholic note. It comes across as metallic-fresh. Light fruits, apple, mirabelle, apricot and gooseberry, plus a mix of citrus fruits and a hint of coconut. Clear caramel with vanilla and a bit of ginger. At the back, musty and moldy but with a pleasant honey sweetness. Needs some time, a bit too alcoholic, but okay. 7.4 Palate: very on the spicy side with pepper, nutmeg, clove and caraway. Slightly salty. A hint of vanilla with orange peel and gooseberry. Young wood. Unfortunately also a bit alcoholic. You can tell it's a very young distillate. It lacks depth and character, feels almost thin in the short finish. 6.8

During a masterclass by Takamaka, I tasted various rums. This lineup is certainly fine for an evening. I’ve had several at home myself and they are nice as a change of pace. Good rum for a good price.

#6911 13.06.2026 Relaxing with some samples after a nice dinner and evening at my friends place. Listening to some powerful Psy Trance on Spotify. Pretty good rum especially when looking at the price tag. A herbal profile with fruits, spice, floral, caramel and chocolate notes in the roasted wood.

Day trip Münster July 2025. Whisky Dungeon pub. Next up, a solid Takamaka. Citrus fruits and orange peel on the nose. Then orange, pineapple, coconut and a little vanilla on the palate.

The Takamaka Bay Grankaz rum (batch #2) is a very interesting gourmet rum. The nose is soft and fruity, offering beautiful notes of caramel and citrus. On the palate, you find the citrus side again, with a slight woody, vanilla, and peppery touch. The finish, medium length, is also woody, vanilla, and spicy.

Fair evaluation The Village 2025, Nuremberg: One of the better Takamaka bottlings so far. Not outstanding, but easy to drink. Perhaps a little more time in the barrel would have done the rum some good.

Tasted at RhumFest Paris 2025. I hadn't tasted a rum from this distillery for a long time, and I'm pleased to see that they've moved upmarket with this rather nice rum. Young wood, citrus, cane. Rather pleasant.

Very spicy and almost ginger-like hot, some red pepper and lots of wood. Alcohol could definitely be better integrated, but overall it doesn't really convince me to be honest... but it's the best takamaka I've tasted so far and it's also okay for 50€.

Interesting and colorful with a blend of cane and molasses as well as influence from the Virgin French oak.

The Foursquare component shines through again and again, otherwise this rum is rather light, fresh and fruity, albeit with a certain alcoholic spiciness at times. In the short and somewhat thin finish, the youth is noticeable with a subtle metallic bitterness, before I am reminded of a rum-grape-nut-chocolate in the pleasant aftertaste.

Bottle kill 15.5.2024 I smell a hint of mhoba in the aroma - to me it's overcooked juice. Young oak to it. In the taste a big turn against the aroma. Sweeter profile, chocolate, caramel and nicely integrated alcohol with a warming finish. An interesting rum from a less usual destination.
