Blind-taste this and you'd swear it was a Martinique agricole or a Haitian clairin, not South African cane juice. Fresh sugarcane on the nose turns fermented and sour fast, with honey, vinegar, vegetal notes and green pepper. At 64.9% it drinks sharp-edged and fruit-schnapps-like. A few call it the finest Mhoba they've had; most rank it last of the New Vibrations three.

And the third in the Vibrations group and by far the least harmonious rum. The nose has a sour, fermented smell, paired with honey sweetness. This is rather unpleasant. On the palate, the alcohol is not very well integrated and the flavors (esters, spices, sweetness) don't go together...no, that's nothing

Also very expressive, almost a bit too much power due to the high percentages. Very fresh with great counterpole from the ex-brandy barrel - impressive release for the young age.

The last of the Vibration trilogy and the one with the highest ABV. Nose: very different from the first two. Initially also intense honey sweetness and fermented fruit. Here, however, the whole thing quickly turns vegetal. Fermented papaya and old gooseberry meet fermented green bell pepper and artichoke. There is also a hint of vinegar. A strong hint of clairin. I don't like that so much here. 7,4 Palate: very briefly fermented honeydew melon at the beginning, which is immediately replaced by a salty-bitter spiciness. The high ABV makes it quite sharp-edged. Lime zest adds bitter citrus fruitiness. Not very round. 7,2 The worst of the three for me. Too bitter, too sharp-edged. I hardly notice the brandy barrel.

Somehow the Mhoba vibes don't really come through here as I would have wished. It's quite a vegetal rum, tastes floral, earthy and also moist, while on the nose it's rather medicinal.

Today a small comparison test between the new Mhobas New Vibrations. My conclusion is that none of the 3 bottlings really convinced me completely. However, my ranking would be 1ST RX17377 2. RX17378 3. RX17376

Delayed over 30 minutes. You can tell it smells different, but I wouldn't have guessed it was brandy. In the end, it smells nice. It's got the highest volts, but it's the softest compared to the indlova and umbila. In a blind tasting I would put my hand up that it's agricole from Martinique or Guadeloupe 😃.

"Small" Mhoba Cross-Tasting 2025: This one doesn't suit my taste at all. And on the nose fermented, rather rotten and somewhat meaty. Could also be a Clairin from Rocher. It doesn't get better on the palate either.

Do we have an African fruit brandy here? The only question is whether it is brandy or spirit :-) Following the motto 'everyone should have a Mhoba at home,' I add to this one 'but please that one, there are better ones.' Alcohol is well integrated... but for me simply too much fruit brandy. Overall still a good 6, as the components are well balanced.

Pleasantly sweet grassy scents, the taste didn't impress me much, slightly sour and bitter, the series mhoba vibrations (umganu, umbila, indlovu) I like the least.

Very different nose compared to the other two Mhobas from the new vibrations collection. An intense fresh sugarcane smell in the beginning, which seemed promising. However it turns out quite sour and the balance is missing.
