This is a piece of history and of course I had to try it once possible and straight out of the belly of the beast. Lightly fruity wit roasted wood and some licorice. Complex and very well balanced rum. Great ABV integration.

Great Navy Rum... I have some reverence to be able to try something like this. Very spicy on the nose: red fruits, allspice, nutmeg, leather and tar very distinct on the nose... On the palate very complex with red fruits, caramel... lots of spice and dark chocolate. Slightly sweet. Very tasty.

This is rum history for a change. From the bottle of René's rarities. It's empty now!Nose: beautiful and complex. Old, dusty, charred attic floorboards, malty roasty with some tobacco, also some old furniture polish. But also dark fruit, plum and grape with a touch of apricot. A slightly resinous freshness and then immediately earthy root. Spicy with maggi and cocoa powder and some licorice.Palate: spicy-woody, malty and toasty with a slightly salty umami note. Tobacco again and something earthy and spicy. Clearly also the polish, herbs and nutmeg.N:89 G:84 historic:95

Tried from the original flask, from René van Houven/René's Rarities at the 10th GRF in Berlin. Incredibly awesome experience. Liquid history tasted here, very hard to describe. Like all flasks mostly unique. Here clearly with a large Demerara share in taste. Tastes incredibly good even without background, I would buy it immediately as a bottling. Maybe the rating doesn't properly reflect the taste impressions, but the historical component alone adds a few points. Bonus: I got to drink the last glass from it. Full of sediment (chunks!) in the glass and even that felt like history. Unforgettable!
