Tasted blind, a few members swore this was Jamaican — esters, glue, varnish, overripe fruit — before the grassy, herbal clairin core gave it away. Eight years in cask has rounded off the wildest spikes and dialled back the florals, which is either the appeal or the letdown depending on who you ask. Underneath: medicinal iodine, olive brine, a dry bitter finish. Still unmistakably a clairin, just a calmer one.

Still good and the price tag was nice at release. ------------------ #5100 Sunday - The last shots before our partners are picking us up 😊 24.01.2025 - 26.01.2025 A nice weekend in my sisters summerhouse with old friends and colleagues tasting a lot of rums. I can only recommend like we did, no phones allowed and then only music in the background 😊 Colour Light to medium dark. Nose Fresh, medium intense, light ester, fruits, light apple, light citrus, light varnish, light herbal. Palate Warm, fresh, light floral, faint iodine, medium intense, light ester, light pineapple, light grass, faint olive. Finish Medium long, fruits, light floral, light grass, light medicinal, light citrus. Empty glass Fruits, light floral, light glue, faint herbs.

Franconian Tasting Gang on 23.11.24 at Jarek. For me, this was the negative surprise of the evening, and by far the loser of the evening. I don't really need to have it in my glass again.

8,4:On the nose, it is estery with overripe tropical, dried fruits like raisins, prunes and vegetal with herbal notes.The wood is roasted. On aeration, the sugarcane is more evident, swimming in caramel, flowery, some medicinal notes with nail polish, perhaps glue.Citrus pleasantly rounds up the notes. 8,2:On the palate, the attack is stormy, unbalanced, funky with gemischt of different notes like spices, vegetal, salty, woody and fruity.It is bitter with an olive, wax, acidic with a vinegar, roasted and resinous wood, dry.Some overripe estery tropical and dried fruits round it a bit.After some rest, it becomes balanced with citrus, floral, herbal and dark notes like roasted nuts, chocolate, licorice, some caramel. The sugarcane is mineral and minty, the overripe pineapple tasty, some tea is obvious. 8,3:The finish is a bit rounder, long, dry, there come some more industrial notes like wax, rubber, bicycle tube, even dirt.The sugarcane is mineral, vegetal, the wood earthy and roasted. Fruit spectre is lingering from the palate.Bitterness continues.... Edit: 14.12.-more resting, oxidation balances the palate, new notes could be noticed like vanilla custard, marzipan, pastry, even cola.

Basically, I really like the rums from Haiti. This rum was very hyped beforehand. It does not live up to its hype at all. Already on the nose very alcoholic and sharp, which continues on the palate until the finish. The dirty fruity profile is undermined by the herbs and plants.

For me much more interesting than the 8-year-old Casimir I tasted yesterday. Nicely medicinal with lots of glue and some rubber over the overripe fruits. Nice bitter note in the finish.

More balanced than RX17920 but the quirky character of the Clairin is still recognizable. Palate: complex, Clairin is recognizable, sweet, eucalyptus. Aftertaste: dry, vegetal. The barrel aging can't hide the wild style of the Clairin but softens the wildest edges. I like it!

Not really bad, quite tasty. Unfortunately, there is hardly anything left of the original DNA of the unripened Vaval, in this respect I liked RX8887 with its green olive even better. In the end, it was unfortunately a little unspectacular for me and did not meet my expectations. You can try it, but you don't have to buy it.

Tasted blind. I first thought of a Jamaican rum: esters, ripe fruits, glue, varnish. Funky as can be. On the palate, I thought of an LP with a few years in cask. In the end, it's a clairin. The vegetal notes should have made me doubt. Very nice.

I'm the Vieux Sajous/ Casimir/ Vaval triumvirate, this candidate comes second. The nose was rather uninviting, very alcoholic, burnt rubber and rather penetrating, unpleasant. On the tongue, however, it was surprisingly mild, almost floral. But of course very agricole-heavy and grassy, bringing more bang and fun on the tongue than the Casimir with identical maturation time and less alcohol

Bottle on spices, glue, tropical fruits. Nice but falls flat too quickly, quite a short finish. A salty side that I don't like.

Here too I can't really imagine 8 tropical years, but oh well. For me better than the Casimir, as the whisky note comes through less and the profile is overall fuller and more intense, while the edgy Clairin markers also come through better.

Very exciting tasting, take plenty of time for it. At first I was a bit disappointed and then the rum kept changing its smell and taste over a period of 30 minutes. For the better 🙃

The first impression is still a little spongy. Typical Vaval on the nose, just a little weaker than a fresh unaged distillate. Then a little irritating on the tongue... The alcohol is present but well integrated. The floral notes are clearly reduced. This makes it more accessible, but also somehow more boring than the unaged or 4y. Nevertheless, still a good rum. "Won't and can't" describes it quite well. I'll have to try it again... not that I'm doing it an injustice.

It's been in my bar for a while. I'm not exactly a Clairin expert, but I expected more here, for 8 years. On the nose, glue, yogurt, fermented fruits. On the palate and finish very sweet. ABV not well integrated, an alcoholic note always wafts through the bouquet. Still easy to drink, but unfortunately too flat overall.
