Dark for a 3-year-old, with a woody, spicy core — toasted oak, nuts, dark chocolate and coffee, laced through with the grassy sugarcane you expect from Martinique agricole. It stays dry despite the bourbon barrel, and at 57% it speaks loudly but stays composed. One taster called it "pur agri martiniquais," and that's the draw. Not a smooth crowd-pleaser, but a characterful cask-strength pour.

First of all, I want to say that this is a really interesting value for money. Congratulations to V&B for that, because we know how complicated it is to find a Martinique cask strength rum at this price nowadays. What dominates in this rum is the wood. It remains dry despite a bourbon cask, offering toasted notes, mild spices (vanilla / ginger / cinnamon), as well as nice dried fruits (raisin / prunes) and tropical fruits (coconut / mango), with a hint of ripe mirabelle plum. Add to that some grilled notes, chocolate and coffee, which then evolve into vegetal touches (herbaceous / cane / tobacco), all highlighted by a little indulgence (brown sugar / caramel / crème brûlée / nuts). A very nice bottle at a really interesting price. Pairs very well with a cigar.

What? This is three-year-old rum? That brutal dark color? I sniff and the smell immediately takes me back to the botanical gardens around Clemán. The smell and the subsequent taste is quite typical. Beautiful full spiciness, nuts, chocolate and wood. Of course the ubiquitous agricole grassiness, turning the flavour slightly sour towards the end. This is a real hit for me!

☀️ Clement by @vandb_officiel ☀️ ▪️ Hi friends! I'm going to tell you about the rum I chose for "THE" event!! My buddy told me: "bring a good Clément for the wedding." I said: "ok bro, you'll see." Headed to @vandb_bretigny and bam, I found this little gem: Clément Small Batch 2020 – V&B Selection. Classy label, promising juice, and above all... big potential to turn heads (and glasses). ▪️ 3 years aging in American oak barrel, the color is incredible 🔥 👃 On the nose, it's deep, softly herbal and smoky, with a nice vibe of very ripe fruits! You feel it's not messing around: there's wood, intensity, a little "I'm wearing a three-piece suit but I have hidden tattoos." 👄 On the palate, it's ample, rich, it speaks loudly but well. You have a fully buttery side, coffee also a hint of leather, and always those candied fruits hanging around. A rum that owns itself, takes space, but with elegance. A bit like the DJ of the evening, but without the dubious remixes. ▪️ Approved by the groom, the witnesses and even uncle Manu (who usually only drinks Ricard). If that's not a quality guarantee... ▪️ It's not a consensual rum, but that's exactly why it's perfect to celebrate a love that isn't either: unique, sincere, a bit crazy, but incredibly good. ▪️ Post-wedding note: The bottle didn't survive the evening. The couple did. That's all we wanted.
