Beenleigh Rumclub Private Selection Ed. 40 Australia 2007
Australia isn't where most people go looking for great rum, and this Beenleigh keeps surprising the people who try it. Yellow fruit, citrus marmalade, chocolate and marzipan up front, then toasted oak, spice and a genuinely unusual grappa/Obstler herbal streak several tasters couldn't stop mentioning. At 64.8% the alcohol reads mostly well-integrated, though a few found the heat too much without a drop of water.

How does Beenleigh Rumclub Private Selection Ed. 40 Australia 2007 taste?
Summarized by AI from community reviews.
Fruity, spicy Beenleigh with an odd herbal twist Many call it their favorite Australian rum — fruity, spicy, chocolatey with a curious herbal grappa note. The catch: a couple of tasters find the high ABV pushy and reach for water.

Australian Rums Tasting, Rum Club Switzerland and Australia Artur’s Advent calendar day 19. A vanilla/woody nose with banana, yellow fruits, a bit weak but with a nice balance. Somewhat chocolaty. The entry on the palate is quite powerful with an interesting bitterness, the fruits and other aromas are perfectly supported by the wood. The finish is rather long, balanced, wood and vanilla, dried fruits and dry herbs. A balanced and refined rum but it lacks the generosity of the Guildive. A little dirty side at the end gives it an additional depth.

This is a real power house! A solid beenleigh from start to the end! But i liked the first edition from Rum Club a lot better! The ABV is integrated good, but not as good as the first bottling. Also due to the longer aging, this is woodier and furrier…

8,7:On the nose, the first impression we get are grassy tones with tropical and citrus fruits, as the wood is roasted with caramel, chocolate, pastry and spice. The molasses is vegetal as we saw, later, when aired, flowery. Aeration does its job, as fruits become estery, overripe, bourbon yellow fruits join the game, as some toasted coconut, there are remnants of burnt sugar also...Round, balanced. 8,7:On the palate, the attack is fruity and woody, as our tasting buds are attacked with orange, yellow fruits and tropical overripe with banana, mango. The wood is spicy with clove and pepper and roasted, toasted with sweet, buttery, caramelized pastry, nuts, marzipan, chocolate and resinous after some rest. The molasses is with resinous wood bitter, vegetal and herbal.Later, we could taste some apple, pear, the rum becomes waxy and a bit metallic. 8,6:The finish is dry, woody with spices and tannins, pecans, vanilla and cocoa, the fruits are dried and green, there is fresh, vegetal molasses with tea. The integration of alcohol is very good... Edit:21.4.25, retains the grade, 1.7.25

Wow, this is really fun. Plenty of power in the nose and on the palate - without being too strenuous. There's a pleasant fruit brandy/grappa note on the palate that I've never had in a rum before. Exciting bottling!

Today 5 Australians in the glass. 1st Rum Club 14 yr: light fruity, very present on the palate with a medium-long finish. 84 pts. 2nd Rom Deluxe no. 40 15yr: Already quite different from the first Rum Club. Much drier. Also very fruity, although the fruit here is rather dark berry. The finish is unfortunately a little mettalic. 85 pts. 3rd Rum Club no. 40 16 yr: Similar to the first Rum Club, only with more wood and much drier. Although not as dry as the Rom Deluxe. I don't think the alcohol is well integrated here. 80 pts. 4th RA 2007 15 yr: Very similar in profile to the first Rum Club due to its dominant light fruits. However, this rum is much more intense and complex. An absolute firework display on the palate! Apricot, mirabelle plum and peach in such an intense form is impressive. If the finish were a little longer, this would be a terrific rum. But very good as it is! 88 pts. 5th Ferroni 2013: Absolutely not comparable with its colleagues. Totally barrel-driven. Very intense on the palate with dark fruits, wet wood and leather. If you like rums with a very strong barrel influence, this is the perfect companion for an evening by the fire. I like it too. 81 pts. I love the concise dryness of the Rom Deluxe. A piece of desert in the mouth =D It also stands out somewhat from the others thanks to its dark fruit. The two RCs and the RA are the most comparable, although the RA is by far the best for me.

#4510 07.12.2023 This is a wonderful and really well balanced rum once rested. The price tag is also really good. Fresh and fruity with a intense nose. The palate is oily and sweet with nice marzipan and citrus. The finish is very long and warm with dried fruit. Love the marzipan in the profile. Draws beautiful curtains in the glass. The empty glass has some caramel, vanilla and light chocolate.

Great Australia 2007! Eucalyptus on the nose, lots of citrus notes, some coconut and dark chocolate. Then incense, pear, apple, caramelized pecan nut and kumquat jam on the palate. The finish is reminiscent of Turkish apple tea, very tasty and creamy and pleasant!
Review by TheRhumhoe
A very fine Australian rum. The nose is very powerful, with fruity aromas: citrus (lemon), yellow and tropical fruit marmalade, coconut and maracuja give a colorful profile (and a high alcohol content, too). This is followed by spices, sweet notes (caramel, confit, marzipan, pastries), toast, chocolate and wood, all enhanced by a delicate floral breeze. A complete, warm profile. The palate is very intense and fruity, with citrus fruits (lemon), marmalade, yellow and exotic fruits. The toasty woodiness and roasted notes of coffee, nuts and cocoa give a dry, powerful edge that warms the palate. A few spices, pastries and hints of alcohol (brandy) creep into a relatively complete, indulgent profile. The alcohol is well integrated into this aromatic, controlled profile. The finish is of medium length. However, there are quite a few very pleasant aromas, such as pear, apple, lemon, caramel, toasted oak, spices, cocoa, mocha and a few herbaceous notes. A slightly sweet warmth emerges in retro-olfaction. A complete, generous profile with guaranteed thrills.

Oh well, I really liked the last two Australians. But this one is my favorite without direct comparison! Super nice yellow fruits, despite the high percentages, the alcohol is perfectly integrated!
Review by Timo Groeger
Rumclub No. 40 Australia, for me a really cool piece. Great nose consisting of chocolate, especially milk chocolate. Also roasted and spicy. The palate is also chocolate, as well as marzipan, baggage and spices. Alcohol perfectly integrated.
Review by Thunderbird
A very good Beenleigh, for me the best so far... very round and top integrated alcohol, fruity, chocolaty, nutty... just good, clear recommendation
Review by Skyfly
Truly the best Australian I've had in the glass so far. Citrus fruits combined with chocolate on the nose and palate, plus wood, spices, and coconut on the nose. Sweetness comes from aromas of caramel and pastry. Alcohol is very well integrated. This rum is really fun! Retasting as part of Artur's Advent calendar: I'm not so convinced anymore. I miss the fruit, and the alcohol is very strong. -5 points

The 2007 Beenleigh from RA, RC (Ed.20), TRC were actually all quite good, although I liked the RA best so far. The new RC (Ed.40) fits in very well. If I go through my notes, the new RC comes more after the RA and less after the Ed.20. On the nose yellow fruits, herbs and vegetables, hazelnut, caramel. Strong and spicy on the palate. The high ABV is well integrated.
Review by HenryL
Wonderfully fruity nose, with some damp oak and citrus. On the palate I found it very tasty at first, but over time this intense similarity to grappa became too much for me. Long finish where after several minutes pleasant herbs and tea appear. Has a bit of the Rum Nation Réunion.

Edit: After having had several Australians in the glass and reviewing my rating again, this was by far the best Australian I've had in the glass so far. I believe from memory this is the best Australian I've had in the glass. The alcohol is very well integrated.
Review by Agricoler
Really nice Australian. Great balance between fruit, spice and sweet notes. Especially for me the nice pastry notes paired with yellow fruits/citrus marmalade. Nice dry and spicy finish with marzipan. I also find the herbal/grappa-like note exciting, which makes the rum nicely varied. Rums like this currently give me much more joy than the umpteenth Hampden.

Unfortunately, no direct comparison to Ed.20 was possible, but from my memory very similar. For me, these remain the two best Australians. Nice fruit notes of apple and citrus fruits. Relatively high acidity, but it fits. Subtle fine vanilla note. The alcohol is okay integrated. I also rated the predecessor a bit higher again.
Review by Tschusikowsky
Complex and balanced. It has a good texture and a pleasant overall combo. Reminds me of something between iced tea and gummy bears, without the intense sweetness of course. The dryness is a bit too dominant for me, which could also be due to the alcohol content. Not top marks for me.
Review by Christian Rudt
A bit less fruity but spicier and in the finish also a bit more towards herbs and tea. The rum needs a little time where its predecessor was more accessible, but here the alcohol is very well integrated at the end where the predecessor was quite noticeable. In direct comparison, Ed. 20 still stays slightly ahead for me. But since Ed. 40 has a different profile, it also depends on mood and taste. Both are recommendable.
Review by Tim
Excellent nose that you can linger on for a long time. In the mouth, the high alcohol content feels a bit too powerful, so a little addition of water seems like a good idea. The mouthfeel lags a bit behind, so the rum stays at 8.6 for me.
Review by Basti
In direct comparison with the Cave Guildive (RX4629), the nose is very similar. The SoR bottling is not quite as fruity and brings more spices and cask aromas. On the palate nicely spicy, intense and round. I don't find the high ABV disturbing.
Review by Andi
Super fruity and intense, it has something crazy for me that I can't identify but I personally find it great! Really an excellent bottling, maybe not for every day, but very exciting.
Review by Djehey
The alcohol is too present for me here. We're on pastry aromas with an apple and citrus wandering in there. Despite the alcohol, the length in the mouth is not exceptional. A little reduction might do it good.
Review by Jens Mulzer
Very versatile bottling. Smell of yellow and tropical fruits, as well as light barrel aromas and chocolate. Taste is fruity, like pineapple for example, but also chocolate and hazelnuts, as well as vegetal notes like hay and olives, almost agricole-like. Finish is medium to long. I like it very much.
Review by Jonas
Wow. Top! Fruit, herbs, vanilla. Feels even a notch better than Ed. 20.
Review by Buddudharma
Nice Australian where yellow fruits initially arrange with barrel notes and chocolate towards the end. For me not a complexity monster, but a very nicely drinkable rum of high artisanal quality.
Review by Carlitooo
Absolutely exceptional Australian. Super fruity and incredibly complex. In comparison, I like it even better than the first 2007
Review by Jakob
Wow - an unusual sweet and balanced Australian. The profile is not without edges and corners, but appears much rounder than many sister releases. Here fruity freshness, heavy sweetness of pastry and caramel notes, bitter barrel notes as well as pointed spice aromas of anise, licorice and pepper come together in a harmonious overall picture.
Review by WiltChamberlain
The alcohol is not integrated well enough. Water helps, but also has a negative effect on the mouthfeel. I would not buy this rum.
Review by Sventrinkt
Despite its high alcohol content, it has a lovely sweetness and is particularly creamy. Lots of fruit, some chocolate, great texture.
Review by rumkopf
Got to try it as a sample and am happy about the decision to test it first. You can smell the alcohol and taste it too, though not excessively. Foreground for me is citrus and something floral. Followed by sweet spices.
Review by Vladimír Rejholec (AlkoTip)
Integrated alcohol in the aroma, you can dip your nose deep into the glass. Sweetness, strong tangerines, chocolate, caramel, wood, vanilla. Considerable similarity to Foursquare. You can feel the strength of the alcohol on the tongue, but it's okay. The sweet fruity taste unfortunately goes away quite quickly in the finish.
Review by Gaylord Ho
The prototype of good rum. Everything's there, but it lacks originality. A good, solid but classic rum.
Review by Miloš Gruškovský St
Color: Amber Nose: Vanilla, fruitiness, pastry, slightly citrus and wood. Taste: Sweetness, chocolate, spices, wood, citrus. Strong finish, pastry and spice aftertaste. Strong warming sensation.

RumClub ed. 40 Australia 2007, 16y, 64.8% vs. Rum Artesanal Australia 2007, 15y, 67.5% You rarely come across a bad rum from these two bottlers. And these two Australias are no exception. Although Australia is not among the top destinations, the 2007 vintage brought some of the best bottlings from the Beenleigh distillery. Personally, I really like Australia; it is (very generally) very fruity, mixing tropical with continental fruits, can be gentle and fresh with floral notes, but also dark and 'heavy' with wood, chocolate, roastiness, etc. It's just beautifully diverse. And this happens with these two as well. While Artesanal is distinctly fresher with fruit, almost marmalade-like, RumClub comes more with confectionery tones, sweet spices, and chocolate.

Still an unbelievably strong bomb for me. Complex and a good compromise between the long barrel aging and the freshness of the green apple 2007 flavors. All in all, a great Beenleigh.
