T.D.L Plantation Trinidad Mezcal Cask 2016
Most tasters land on "interesting experiment done right" rather than a bottle they'd buy twice. The mezcal cask pushes it smoky and peppery without taking over, over a base of peaches, citrus and light caramel. A few catch a glue or petrol note early. One reviewer found it "quite unique" but a bit boring; another couldn't spot the mezcal at all.
- Mezcal smoke works
- Fruity, peachy nose
- Genuinely unusual

How does T.D.L Plantation Trinidad Mezcal Cask 2016 taste?
Aggregated from 43 community reviews.
Smoky, peppery mezcal-cask experiment Well-liked as a smoky, fruity mezcal-cask curiosity. Most find the finish works; the split is on the young, slightly hot, thin body and whether the mezcal really lands.

Mezcal finish makes it special. Very unusual to other many Trinidads I had opportunity to try. Dry, almost like fruit destilat. It ia hard to describe taste and nose at the beging of bottle but foelr sure I say You should try.

A fine, exotic drop, in my opinion! A clear sticky note at the beginning, then something else on the finish, which must be the influence of the Mezcal cask. I'm already looking forward to the second tasting when the sample from Olivia arrives. On the other hand, a bottle is not expensive, you can't go wrong with the price ... Update 2023-11-28: The 2nd tasting confirms it: light but drinkable. A really successful mezcal experiment. Quite unlike the Calvados experiment released at the same time (still without a RumX number).

The smell is too mild. I smell only fresh fruit, a little bit of flowers and even less technicality. The taste is similar. I haven't had the pleasure of tasting mezcal yet, but the finish definitely gave it an interesting twist. A good experiment for me.
Review by Jakob
The mezcal finish works surprisingly well - as expected, the rum turns spicy and smoky on the palate, but doesn't get lost in it. An interesting experiment that can certainly be described as a success.

The initial nose reminded me of an urinal puck. After some time it become some kind of Parfum, fruits and some vegetal notes. Overall it is quite fresh but I have to be honest that don’t recognise any Mezcal. Of course there are some nice aspects of this dram but nothing I haven’t seen somewhere else (and without the Mezcal finish). It is a decent but also kind of boring drop.

Quite interesting but overall too spicy and too young.
