Rum Shark T.D.L Angostura 2013

The odd thing about this Trinidad Rum Shark: barely anyone tastes Trinidad in it. Tasters keep landing on mint, menthol, grass, herbs and a green, floral agricole profile — several openly wonder if a cask got swapped. Expect fresh mint, spice, dried fruit and dry, spicy oak. Cask strength, and a couple found the alcohol sharper than the label suggests.

The community says
  • Fresh mint, menthol
  • Herbal agricole character
  • But: Can drink harsh

Aggregated from 34 community reviews.

Minty, herbal, oddly agricole-like Trinidad Well-liked but genuinely puzzling — most reviewers taste a minty, herbal agricole rather than typical TDL. A couple found it a touch harsh; one thinks a cask was mixed up.

8,4:On the nose, the first impression we get is typical agricole with flowery, herbal notes, some anise, grass, fruity with citrus, yellow fruits and roasted wood, spicy, the sugarcane is juicy and mineral. On aeration, the spices are more intensive with some clove, cinnamon, vanilla. The sugarcane is waxy and minty. There is a kiwi and dried fruits like apricots, figs and some walnut. 8,5:On the palate, the attack is typically agricole with herbal, minty and tea notes, fruity with yellow fruits and raspberry, the sugarcane is juicy, honeyed and mineral, tasty with caramelized pastry. The wood is spicy and nutty, dry. After resting the rum, tropical fruits, citrus arise with some mango and pineapple. It becomes a bit bitter, waxy with rubber. There are also some flowery notes with geranium. 8,5:The finish is long, dry, earthy, a bit bitter with all the agricole attributes mentioned above...Very tasty.. Angostura?Nope. Some mistake with filling?Probably.Very tasty agricole, possibly Martinique, I would say, strong sugarcane and all agricole atributes... Edit:12.10.25

What? Tastes like agricole from Martinik. Very good, however, it is TDL?

Kann eigentlich kein TDL sein. Ich glaube, da wurde ein Fass vertauscht. Geschmacklich klar ein Agricole-Profil mit floralen, grünen Noten. Aber insgesamt nicht schlecht, der Rhum!

The full taste is there even with integrated alcohol. But - is this TDL...? Beautifully matte for a bottle under 100e. You can feel the alcohol, but it's very drinkable. I recommend it even to beginners for discovering new flavours. Mata from TDL is an unmistakable taste that you will never get tired of.

I'd guess a sherry cask influence makes its job here. Nice spicy, woody nose with dark dried fruits. On the palate, its a bit too harsh for me - the alcohol hits hard considering the ABV. Didn't finish my sample.

Good rum, but like I'm drinking agricole?! SJ, Karukera...? Or is it just an ultra-ordinary TDL?

Another Rum Shark in my collection. In aroma, there is a lot of that typical Trinidad-technical scent with combination of cherries (love that), chocolate and some sweet scents (mostly honey). Also I need to point out smoke and oak/wood scent. Taste again is typical Trinidad-technical with lot of spice and strong hint of fruity and sweet flavors (vanilla). I really liked bittery notes with combination of wood and I want to say tobacco flavors. Finish is quite long (at least for me) lot of fruits, vanilla flavors.. hints of nutty and barrel flavor. Not bad at all, I have to say I already tasted better rums from Trinidad, but still this is a nice add to my collection.

Color - dark gold, copper, nothing special Nose - fresh mint, menthol, mint, sweeties- honey, chocolate etc. Taste - even if it’s little bit sharp, alcohol is integrated and i feel again mint, grass, sweet marzipan, some wood.. I don’t feel long after taste- medium with dry and woody tones I am taking the part - I like it - interesting rum, which stands out of row. Not for daily consumption, but for special occasions when I want something completely different than usual.

Angostura is famous for a bottle most people never drink neat. The bitters house founded in 1824 became Trinidad's only rum distillery, and its arm Trinidad Distillers makes a clean, column-distilled, Spanish-style rum unlike the heavy funk of Jamaica or Guyana. The same plant still guards the secret recipe for the world's most famous cocktail bitters.
