Masterclass with Alexandre Gabriel on 04.04.2024. Plantation becomes Planteray. Again such a whisky finish, which I personally don't like at all. Unlike the Guyana at the tasting, not so intrusive. Nice, but nothing I would need now.

Again a coherent release with a clear positioning: targeting lovers of sweet rums who also want a bit more aromatic complexity. It works well and will rightly find its fans, but the overall package remains a bit unspectacular for me - but that's strictly a subjective judgment.

#4684 04.04.2024 Online tasting wit RumX and Plantaray. Nose Sweet, fruity, light glue, light peat, faint smoke, light wood, faint caramel. Palate Light, light wood, light peat, light smoke, fruity, sweet, warm, light caramel, light mint. Finish Long, sweet, light wood, faint smoke, light peat, citrus. Very thick and slow moving curtains in the glass. The empty glass has some malt and stronger whisky notes.

Wanderung durch das Geisterholz in Oelde. Schöner Platzregen gerade :-( In der Nase jedenfalls sehr fruchtig dieser Plantation, außerdem ist Holz erkennbar. Am Gaumen dann wirklich überwiegend Whisk, ansonsten noch Karamell, Vanille und Gewürze.

This SC has only one year of tropical aging behind it. The rest is continental in whisky and cognac casks. Interesting spicy aromas come through, strong whisky influence but quite pleasant. On the palate you can also feel the cognac cask with lots of red fruit, but the whisky influence remains clear and dominates the finish. An interesting bottling clearly shaped by both continental maturations. Quite successful.

I can't quite understand the partly bad reviews. However, I am sometimes enthusiastic about whisky. A very simple easy sipper. No smoke detectable for me, so probably not a Machrie Moor cask. Overall, the classic Barbados notes dominate with a bit more spiciness from the Scotch.

OK. The guys at Plantation / Planteray obviously know their job, if it is doing a blend appealing to the casual drinker dipping into the connoisseur part of the rum market. The only thing artificial here is the sweetness, and possibly the alcohol (sometimes it was a bit sharp as if it had been added after the fact). To sweet for real rum enthusiasts it is on par for all those that like Zacapas, Botucals and similar rums that like to have some other dimensions on the palate. It simply works as a blend, and while I would like it as a beginner I am sure nowadays I would be bored with a whole bottle very soon, as it is tasty but a bit one dimensional (for me). The Whiskey part is not too obvious and to the face, and thus I have not really an option towards or against it.

Not overly intense on the nose with notes from the cask and a hint whisky. More power on the palate with caramel some malty/whisky notes alongside some tropical fruits. Thanks to Alexandre and the RumX Team for the masterclass!

Mhhhhh, there’s not much to say. Smells woody and sweet with some fruity notes. Definitely sharp on the taste, vanilla sweet and very thin. I don’t taste any whiskey cask influence, thank God😅

Great Barbados rum with the typical aromas, paired with a whiskey finish that was integrated more subtly and can be seen as a kind of extension or complement. An experiment, if you will. Whether successful or not, the result is easy to drink.

5 years in an Arran cask (so whisky), for that this is surprisingly round. Quite unlike Big Peat, here the finish is subtle and well integrated. The rum gets a malty sweetness, plus a light smokiness. You can definitely drink that ;-)

An der Nase ist zu Beginn nicht viel los, ein paar gelbe Früchte und aufdringlicher Alkohol. Nach einer Weile kommen ein paar Gewürze und Zitrusfrüchte dazu. Am Gaumen übernimmt das Fass mit vordergründige Würze und Tanninen. Auch hier habe ich einen unangenehm starken alkoholischen Eindruck. Der Nachklang ist mittellang und Würze und Tannine dominieren Mittelmäßiger Rum an dem ich nicht viel Positives finde.

RumX masterclass Planteray, 4.4.24, live with Alexandre Gabriel. It spent the longest time, 5 years, in an Arran cask. For that, this cask is quite restrained. Nose: fairly restrained and balanced fruity, woody, spicy, floral. Almost like perfume. On close sniffing you can also slightly perceive the whisky. Overall light fruit with green apple and apricot, vanilla and a very subtle smoke note. Despite good ABV, a bit boring. 6.8 Palate: initially a bit alcoholic and the whisky comes through too. Woody and somewhat bitter, but also sweet with orange and green apple. Overall unfortunately a bit flat and one-dimensional. 6.8

Plantation/Planteray RumX online masterclass: 5y arran finish are definitely noticeable but less dominant than expected. Very surprising that there is really 0g sugar in it, as I perceived an intense sweetness. The arran finish brings slightly herbal, malty and smoky notes without finally dominating the rum with coconut/banana and some citrus fruits. All in all, not quite my cup of tea, even though it is a successful blend. For me, this is one of the better whisky finishes, even if I'm not a scotch fan. The alcohol is also surprisingly well integrated.

Very sweet aromas on the nose, loads of light caramel and vanilla. Absolutely reminds of crème brûlée. On the palate the alcohol definitely comes through too strongly. Similar aromas as on the nose. A bit too one-dimensional and "boring." Otherwise probably a nice entry rum due to the sweetness.

Plantation Masterclass. With this Barbados with whisky finish, surprisingly (because I hate Scotch whisky) the finish didn't bother me at all... I even found it quite nice. It's a bit thin and not very complex, but very drinkable. Also no annoying sugar like in the El Salvador.

Sweet and gentle nose on vanilla, some oak in the background. On the palate the Whisky hits, together with citrusy bitterness, getting spicy towards the end. Finish medium long on spices. Not my favorite, the barrel seems too overpowering.

Tried at Whisky & more 2026 in Hattingen. I expected more from the Ledaig Finish, to be honest - but who wants to drink rum that tastes like whisky? Nobody. So the rum remains somewhat indecisive and doesn't quite know what it wants to be. It feels one-dimensional and sharp, the alcohol is not optimally integrated, and anyone hoping for at least slight hints of Richard Seele will be disappointed.

Too sweet for me, although nothing was added. Caramel, some vanilla, the bourbon barrel from the previous use (Arran Single Malt) comes through, malty. Difficult case. Everything somehow a bit spritzy. The nose is very closed. On the palate the whisky influence comes through clearly. I have to admit this bottling doesn't grab me. Shame...

Klassisch fruchtig Barbados, aber mit deutlicher Whiskynote. Malzige Würze kommt deutlich durch in der Nase. Kommt recht süß daher. Keine Dosage tut hier gut (und überrascht), und erlaubt dem Kontrast sich zu entfalten. Im Antritt durch und durch Barbados, im Mittelteil trocken fruchtig, nach hinten raus sehr malzig und leicht rauchig. Finish dann wieder trocken bis holzig, mit dem Malt prägnanter als der Frucht. Schönes Ding!

On The Rocks: On the nose it is very smooth with a mild sweetness, spice and oak. Taste is very smooth with sweet and spice. Tastes like a mild Scotch Whiskey. Finish is medium with the spice fading to a slight bitterness. Mixed Pepsi Zero: On the nose it smells like a Dusty Pepsi Zero. Taste is very smooth with a mild and brief spice and sweetness. Finish is short and enjoyable but lacks complexity. This is a reasonable mixer but a little pricy for that. The Plantation 20th anniversary would be a better option mixed for less money.

Kann ich irgendwie gar nicht einordnen. Die Nase sagt mir viel Holz (Eiche) und irgendwas unbekanntes. Der Geschmack bestätigt das ebenfalls mit Holz, Kokos und ??? Whatever it is ??? Der Alkohol könnte besser eingebunden sein, Insgesamt gerade mittelmäßig und besser als Raumduft geeignet als zum pur trinken.
