Tasted at SITS’24 On the nose the red wine cask has had an interesting and positive effect on bringing forward the spices and red fruits. It’s deep and musty, rich in roasted nuts, wine tannins, licorice and with a hint of fennel seed. Red fruits dominate the palate with strawberry pie, and raspberry-filling. Unexpectedly some hints of lime, but the cask’s influence can clearly be felt and leaves (too) little room for anything else. The finish is short, sugary and continues on the same trend. It’s dry, with lots of dried fruits and black tea leaving a tannic and slightly bitter experience. It’s not bad, but the insistence on strange cask usage ruins the base spirit, in my opinion.
