Depaz XO Cuvée Volutes
Agricole drinkers who like a smoky twist will get the most out of this one. It's a Depaz column-still rum aged in several casks, including a small Laphroaig barrel, so you get cane juice fruit — orange peel, dried apricot, plum — wrapped in a "subtle, lightly peated" smoke, tobacco and oak. Pairs naturally with a cigar. A few found the nose quiet and the finish a little flat.

Très bel équilibre pour ce rhum où le passage en fût de Laphroaig est subtil et légèrement tourbé. L’alcool est très bien intégré.

Un des tops du salon, un bon mix de fruits secs, d'orange, un petit côté café qui vient s'ajouter à un voile de fumée, j'ai vraiment apprécié et ca donne bien envie avec un cigare, c'est sur.

This one was aged in 4 kinds of barrels, including a small 120L Laphroaig one. Even though I am not a fan of peated finishes in rum, I must say, that if I sensed some hints of peat at all, it was quite hidden in the background letting the rum itself shine through. The smokiness is not overpowering but adds depth by kind of muting some of the floral notes in my point of view. The nose is wonderfully fruity with ripe apricot, nectarine, dark cherry, and plum, followed by wood, vanilla sugar, and sweet spices. The palate reveals salted caramel, grapes, and a gentle woodiness with hints of black raspberry. The finish brings forward bold wood notes, milk chocolate, dried citrus, and a slight sherry touch

Au nez des notes marquées d'agrumes et de fruits. Du chêne et le whisky. Intéressant. En bouche, on retrouve les marqueurs du nez avant que le whisky ne prenne le dessus et n'emporte le jeu. Très marqué, presque tourbé en fin de bouche.
