Cherry, chocolate and coffee lead here, with coconut and caramel underneath from the Belize base. That cherry-liqueur cask finish is gentler than you'd expect — more added sweetness than loud fruit. Most tasters find it a pleasant, roasty sipper that leans sweet and a touch thin, with a few wishing the ABV climbed higher. The Belize character still reads through.

The character of a Belize rum is still clearly recognizable. Delicious chocolate, caramel, vanilla, wood. Fruits are also well present, especially cherry upfront. What I like best is the roasted/coffee note!

Plantation Tasting April 4th. Pleasant, Belize-typical nose with a bit of cherry brandy. But nothing really exciting. Very flat on the palate, some fruit, and the finish is practically non-existent. Unfortunately, it falls far short compared to the nose.

Unfortunately just ... ordinary. And too thin! I found the finish unconvincing. But perhaps also an unfair assessment because it was tasted against an outstanding Belize 2006. So it will be back in the glass. Update 2024-04-26: Rating increased by 3 points from 69 to 72. Today I like the coffee-coconut note quite well. Nevertheless, the rum remains thin for me.

Masterclass with Alexandre Gabriel on 04.04.2024. Plantation becomes Planteray. Since Belize is now partly a red rag for me, as I personally can't do anything with most bottlings, I was pleasantly surprised by this one. Not an absolute enlightenment, but definitely drinkable.

Tried this one at the guys from Romdeluxe, as it was recommended from one of them. The nose has a sweetness with cherry and vanilla to it, and in the notes I found red fruits, chocolate and a sweetness. Edit: re-tasted and added picture

More spice and barrel than fruit on the nose. Lots of sweetness and characteristics of the Spanish style. Very similar and liqueur-like on the palate. I think it also has a "dosage" (as the addition of sugar is euphemistically called at Plantation, among others). The finish is of medium length and again strongly reminiscent of simple Spanish-style rums. It's a shame, the raw material doesn't seem to be bad but I don't like this "processing" so much, but it's certainly suitable as an introduction to Belize and not unpleasant.

Interesting finish that gives the rum a new note. The strong dilution like in many Plantation rums distorts the result a lot though. More ABV would be great. Overall a dry rum for people who like it a bit sweeter.

Palate Sweet, light roasted wood, fruity, light caramel, faint earthy. Finish Medium long, light roasted wood, sweet, light caramel, cherry. The empty glass has some light iodine and Chocolate.

A walk through the ghost wood in Oelde. On the nose mostly coffee and chocolate, the cherry is only slightly recognizable. On the palate also lots of chocolate and vanilla, cherry is not so present here either, a bit of coconut is also noticeable.

RumX masterclass Planteray, 4.4.24, live with Alexandre Gabriel. Post-tasting. Nose: spicy-fruity with sweet wood, cherry tree wood. Cherry is clearly there. The one year in the cherry liqueur cask brought not only the cherry but also a slight dosage. To the cherry comes a deep, dark fruitiness of dried apricot and blackberry. Also a nice smoky note with caramel and vanilla can be perceived. I like the nose. 7.6 Palate: fruity-spicy, sweet-salty-sour, sour cherry with currant, plus some vanilla, unfortunately a bit flat and weaker than the nose. A bit too sour in my opinion. 6.8

I was curious about this SC but quite skeptical about the finish in cherry liqueur due to the known sweetness. Here, it stays fairly restrained. The Belize rum definitely comes through. It's complemented by lots of cherry and some nut. Easy-drinking story.

Cherry, caramel and choclate notes on the nose. Cherry and Siroup on the palate. Alongside chocolate and also some roasted/smokey notes. It is interesting and richt, however, here I do not get the Belize notes really. Also this one is a bit too sweet for my liking. Thanks to Alexandre and the RumX Team for the masterclass!

Nase und Geschmack von den Grundaromaten sehr lecker leider ist das ganze viel zu süß geraten. Das Projekt mit dem Fass ist aber durchaus gelungen. Das Ganze wird mit Sicherheit Freunde finden. Für mich persönlich aber insgesamt zu süß.

Heavy sweetness, cherry, dark fruit, chocolate, fresh wet wood on the nose. As expected sweet, then very roasted up to coffee, some nuts and caramel. In the finish lots of coffee with delayed cherry that stays long on the palate. I personally find it very pleasant in this range, could be something for beginners, but surely too boring for the nerds for playfulness ;)

I tasted this blind, not really looking at exact details except that it is from Belize. Found it quite sweet, fruity, mild. Surprised this to have cherry finish, I did not taste this at all. AMaybe my taste buds where out of alignment that day? Who knows. It qualifies as a sipper, to really have my attention it should have mor ABV and less sweetness. But again, the composition is quite well done, addressing more the casual sipper than the afficionado. It is... Pleasant.

Planteray/Plantation RumX Online Masterclass: Mon Cheri 🍫🍒 on the nose as well as some caramel, coffee and green pepper. Really nice nose! The taste is also mon cherie again, dark chocolate, coffee and a little tonka bean. Also quite sweet but still within limits. More of a sipping "dessert" style rum that has enough power but is relaxed and uncomplicated to drink overall. But not necessarily for advanced rum drinkers😃

Cherry, caramel and chocolate notes on the nose. Cherry and syrup on the palate. Also chocolate and some roasted notes. It is interesting and rich, but I don't really get the Belize notes here. For my taste a bit too sweet and thin.

Distinctive sweetness that takes its part in the aroma spectrum but doesn't completely overwhelm the fruit and wood notes. The Belize profile remains clearly recognizable, the additional cherry liqueur touch is a nice addition. Overall a solid sipping rum on the sweet but not artificial side.

Nice nose on chocolate, caramel, coconut and a bit cherry in the back. Creamy, syrupy mouthfeel, some dryness & fruits emerging. Cherry finish is present, but not overpowering. Short finish, a bit weak on the abv unfortunately.

Planteray RumX Masterclass by Alexandre 04.04.2024: This rum from today's tasting is also too sweet for me. But the cherry notes are very interesting. Also coconut, a bit of coffee and chocolate. Nice rum for beginners.

Ein 2015er Belize, gefinished in einem Fass mit Kirschlikör - eine durchaus seltene Kombi bzw. allgemein ein seltenes Finish. Während man den Belize-Charakter noch deutlich merkt, ist das Kirschfass überraschend dezent. Ich hatte hier knallig-süße Kirscharomen erwartet, aber dem ist nicht so. Die Kirsche kommt vor allem in der Nase dezent durch, insgesamt gab das Finish dem Rum vor allem wohl etwas Süße. Spannenderweise kam aber auch ordentlich Holz mit einigen Tanninen ins Fass. Nichts, was ich als Flasche brauche, aber trotzdem irgendwie spannend!

On The Rocks: On the nose it is mild with a pleasant sweetness with cherry and sherry notes. Taste reveals a beautiful sweetness with strong cherry and spice notes with a delayed oak/woody with hints of dark chocolate that builds into the finish. Finish is long with the oak and spice continuing with the sweetness giving way to a slightly bitterness with hints of dark chocolate. This is a beautiful sipper and you could enjoy a gentleman’s drink on the rocks. Mixed Pepsi Zero: On the nose Musky Pepsi Zero. Taste is a musky Pepsi zero with a little cherry flavour. It is ok mixed but a waste to drink mixed.

Plantation Masterclass. Typical Belize nose of the more alcoholic kind with a nice fruit note. With a bit of imagination, you can also recognize cherry. Pleasant. On the palate, unfortunately, an immediately noticeable dosage. According to Alexandre, only half is from the cask finish. Makes you wonder why. ABV is also a bit too low.

Kaffee meets sherry. Schön Nase, mit Leichter süße, Frucht, Holz und Kaffee. Auf der Zunge wieder Kaffee, bisschen Kokos und Irgendeine Frucht (Sherry, wie ich dann erfahren habe :-) ). Schön abgestimmt, rund und gut eingebundener Alkohol. Nur der kurze Abgang ist etwas schade. Guter Einsteiger Belize. Daily sipper.

Sticky sweet cherry. For my taste way too sweet and almost syrupy. It could almost be a cherry liqueur with rum. For fans of very sweet-fruity variants certainly pleasant, but a less dominant cherry liqueur impression would have been better here.
