Another awesome Hampden! Intense, astringent, funky, wild and yet very well balanced. As expected tropical fruits, glue and polish. Then an interesting musty note sneaks in on the palate. Thanks @Tom

Lots of typical Hampden aromas, which would be promising if it weren't for the very present acidity, which is already above the rest of the profile on the nose. This acidity remains dominant on the palate, which in my opinion significantly unbalances the overall profile.

Intense and fibrant on the nose. Rather young and rough until it sits for quite some time in the glas. Does not hide its ester content at all , but develops a nice rich HGML fruitiness over time. I also get a rich sensation of BBQ/Chipotle spices on the nose, which is surprising but gives an interesting twist in my mind. Very nice and fruity on the palate. Some roasted notes and quite a bit sweetness. Very good. Not quite on par with the HV 2010 HGML, but not too far off. Also ahead of the 2010 12y single cask imo.

First impression: chemicals and solvents, a bit rough around the edges. Improves as it sits in the glass. Alcohol integration not that bad, but delivers quite a punch. Edit: compared to RX328 & RX16253 Most remarkable nose with some smokiness (is that bacon?). Esters are far more present on the palate and a little burn. Very nice. Bottlekill 15/04/24 The oxidation made it a bit more mellow. Very lovely fruity esters. Alcohol still present, but much less compared to the first tasting. Bumped it up with 0,3 points, because I find it excellent at this moment.

An explosive yet balanced nose. Buttery, fermented fruit, burnt caramel and a slight acetic bite. Not much funk, except on the very first nose, which is quite explosive. Aesthetics are very volatile here, and this rum mellows out considerably if you wait before drinking your glass. The palate is complex but not quite clean. In addition to the acetic bite felt on the nose, the fermented sides detract a little from the attractiveness of this rum, which is nonetheless very interesting and pleasant. The finish is long and balanced.

8,5:On the nose, the first impression we get is a bit unpleasant with strong iodine, mixed with esters, a bit funky feeling. Settling down a bit, overripe tropical fruits like pineapple are in, a roasted wood, a molasses brings sesame, there is some citrus and a yoghurt note. On aeration, it becomes balanced with vanilla, roasted wood notes like caramel, pastry, nuts and marzipan, some iodine stays with meaty, smoky notes. 8,6:On the palate, the attack is intense with iodine, esters and overripe tropical fruits like pineapple, later banana, citrus, glue, salty, spicy roasted wood, a bit smoky with pastry, marzipan and nuts, as the fruits become candied. The molasses brings tobacco and an olive, a bit bitter.When we bring in some red fruits, we could think of tasting a marmelade. With resting, chemical notes arise, disbalance our tasting a bit. 8,6:The finish is long, dry with smoky, spicy roasted wood, tropical, citrus, red fruits, fermented, then vegetal molasses with olive.A very pleasant crunchy bread note is present, some bbq notes also...

#4765 07.07.2024 Relaxing at home with a few samples. Nose Light wood, pineapple, orange, overripe, light floral, spice, light herbs, light anise. Palate Round, balanced, light wood, pineapple, banana, overripe, light olive, faint salt, light tar, faint licorice. Finish Long and warm, light wood, fruity, light pineapple, light orange, spice. The empty glass has light chocolate, roasted and light vegetal notes.

A young HGML that unfortunately can’t keep up with the top dog from Habitation Velier from 2010. You can clearly tell the young age. A few more years in the cask would certainly have done it good. I find it has a slight off note, which unfortunately prevents a better rating.

Really intensely spicy. Candy bacon, Taggiasca olives, brioche with salted cucumber butter. Very thick, heavy, intense. Not too extreme or exhausting but still demanding and exciting. Surprisingly great bottling!

Two attributes stand out on the nose: overripe pineapple and a smell like rancid butter. Behind that I find lemon balm, barrel influence and a little iodine. It's already off to a great start! The palate is then really wild: the barrel is clearly noticeable, overripe pineapple anyway, sweet notes of marzipan, yoghurt towards the finish, then slightly bitter and slightly salty, iodine and a medicinal note also reappears. In my opinion, the alcohol provides just the right boost. The salty note accompanies me far into the long finish and evokes an association with green olives. Unfortunately, I have nothing more of the Hampden Great House 2020 to compare. I remember the GH 2020 as being very similar, but this one is much more intense and multi-faceted. This Hampden is not for beginners and delivers a youthful, wild ride through the distillery's wide spectrum of flavors, excellent!

A big thank you to the princess for this cool sample. A HGML that I really like. Nose: First the full load of glue, esters, then fruit, pineapple, overripe fruits, sour, marzipan, allspice Palate: Meaty, bacon-y (not dirty), esters, salty, glue, pineapple, roasted aromas, marzipan, caramelized, a slight citrus/yogurt note, Finish: dry, ester, glue, slightly astringent, marzipan, very fine very tasty. Alcohol is very well integrated.

Here's a Hampden I rate worse than the community, what's going on? But here I really don't like this smoky, BBQ feeling at all. Otherwise, some ester and glue notes are still recognizable.

Tasted against the top dog HV 2010 HGML On the nose the Spirits is clearly more sour and the HV with a great pineapple-marzipan sweetness. In return, Spirits in the Sky scores with a meaty/grilled note that comes out from the background after a while, which you'd usually expect from an LP. Great bottling, but doesn't quite reach the feel-good factor of the HV...

In direct comparison with the much younger HGML from TWJ for TastToe, the nose here is much fruitier, riper, with more barrel influence. On the palate, too, it is simply more mature, rounder, with more spicy aromas and fruity notes.

I thought this was just ok for a Hampden. On the nose this one was big - ester and funk, overripe fruits, glue, buttery, hints of wood and savoury notes but with a distinct sourness. On the palate it’s big and intense. Esters show up right away and despite some fruitiness there’s a kick of astringency and bitterness followed with mild woody notes and again, some savoury, meaty notes. This almost made me wonder if I am starting to tire of Hampdens. At their best, they are big but balanced chaos. At their worst they are very interesting but completely lacking polish - they are simply wild and unrestrained, everything big and in your face. This time around I was left questioning how much I actually enjoyed the chaos. Still tho, the experience is always interesting - hence 8/0

Beautiful HGML with all the typical Hampden notes: Varnish, esters, glue, pineapple, fermented fruit, just the way we like it. Alcohol could be better integrated, you can just tell the comparatively young age here. Accordingly, I don't think it deserves a higher rating.

Alcohol is well integrated and the bottling brings pronounced citrus notes. I liked those. However, it lacks a bit of complexity and unfortunately quite a lot of acidity. Still a good bottling if you like citrus notes.

Hampden very well mastered. The nose is classic of the distillery and brings a lot of pleasure and greed. The palate is a little less acidic than I expected, but still extremely pleasant.

I don't really warm up to high ester contents, but that's a personal challenge. This bottling delivers what it promises, a great nose full of Caribbean compost heap: overripe pineapple, fermented banana and mango with a slight bitterness of papaya. Something off-round comes in, stands out a bit and makes the overall impression rather angular. The funk noticeably fades over time and the rum becomes more agreeable and charming.

Beautiful overripe pineapple... Maybe also pears on the nose. Typical Hampden. Very intense sharp taste with very long finish. It literally stays in the throat. Almost a bit too much for me. But an experience. Confirmed in the after-tasting.

Great part! Great nose and great taste. From the nose, I would normally have classified it as HGML, but rather as LFCH or even higher. The alcohol is well integrated. Too expensive though, there are other brands that are cheaper and taste at least as good.

Mmhh overripe pineapple and something floral on the nose. Then again overripe pineapple on the palate, plus something buttery and a pleasant saltiness that lingers medium-long on the finish. It opens up a little more with a few drops of water. The esters here are actually a little too over the top for me, but I still find this HGML to be really cool. The only downside for me is the price, I would buy it for around €150, but it's not worth more to me.

26/06/2026: Road Rummers Supertasting @ TastToe. A relatively young Hampden with a big esters that jump out of the glass. Behind all the fruitiness, there is something dirty as well which I like and keeps it interesting. Good HGML with a long finish.

Great Hampden. It gives a big strawberry yoghurt aroma to the nose. Fruity, pastries and even some cheese and a sour note. Overall it smells mainly sweet though, amazing nose. The taste starts with a sweet pineapple that develops into a more sour one. There is also papaya and other fruits. Chewing brings out a BBQ note but you have to look for it. The finish is more on the sour side with a bitter note. But later on that sweet comes back into play. A wonderful Hampden that mellows out nicely in the glass. For as far a Hampden does that of course.

Very nice HGML. Despite its young age harmonious (as far as HGML can be called harmonious). Light BBQ notes on the nose, full fruit power on the palate. Overall highly recommended, only the (now asked) price is a bit high.

This packs a punch. Salty pineapple with a lemony, iodine touch. I love this! There's much more to it than that, of course, but that gets you 75% there. Edit: didn't get the bbq sauce that others remarked on until I burped. Yeah, bbq sauce.
