Caramel, honey and burnt sugar lead, with vanilla, wood and a whiff of glue behind them — a soft blend of the Enmore and Uitvlugt stills. Builds a nose of fruits in harmony with scents of old English club, varnished wood, old leather, and cold smoke. Vanilla and a caramel side. The palate is smooth and all aromas come at once. Quickly they dissolve leaving an elegant woody finish, rock candy, and ripe banana. A beautiful rum with depth and elegance but let down by a somewhat hollow finish.

Very nice blend of sweeter blends of uitvlugt and enmore with a nice fruit and herbal blend. Prune, cocoa, honey, bitter orange etc.... Unfortunately just a bit thin and short on the finish. 🤷🏼♂️

Rumfest finally gave me the chance to taste these much-maligned bottles. Yes, it's (very) expensive for ten-year-old rum, despite the tropical aging, and that's my biggest complaint. It's quite full-bodied, perhaps a little too much so, given El Dorado's usual caramel character. But in the end, it's good, like El Dorado 21 (2020 version) only a little better. The bottles are pretty close to each other, but they're blends, so that explains it too. All in all, I think these bottles, priced at around €100, would be a good deal for discovering some nice Guyanese blends that are pleasant and accessible, without going for something very specific. Maybe that was the idea, but unfortunately it's too expensive. I place it after the violet.

Brussels Rhum Festival 2024: Honey and chocolate on the nose with beautiful complexity. Spicy and sweet in the mouth. Mild but complex with a long finish. Slightly bitter at the end with herbal notes. Beautiful piece

El Dorado produces really good bottlings, like the rare casks. Let's see what this blended in the barrel from the Uitvlugt and the Enmore still can do: Nose: oh yes, full-bodied, smooth, spicy and honeyed. The spice is a potpourri of wood, sweet glue, vanilla, pipe tobacco and nutmeg. However, the sweetness of nougat, honey, burnt sugar and cream toffee is much more predominant. There is also a subtle fruitiness of orange and chirimoya. Totally delicious. 8.6 Palate: full-bodied and soft here too. Spicy-sweet with honey, nougat and toffee. Clearly molasses with sweet, soft liquorice and tonka bean. Dried dates and orange alongside malty milk chocolate and spicy sandalwood. Also really tasty. The almost 48% is enough, more is probably a bit better. 8,4

Caramel and fruit on the nose, delicate with some honey and brown sugar. The mouth is sweet, wood and caramel again hits hard, and immediately feels a tad thin. Wood and spicy earth comes slightly later. The finish is short and too thin to be memorable but brings toffee and vanilla. It’s a good rum but a little too simple and thin to be more than that

Wow, so Enmore and Uitvlugt in one, I like it :) The mustiness of Uitvlugt is only slightly present, so it is rather lightly sweet, especially vanilla and caramel are recognizable, some wood as well though.

It overpowers more enmore than uitvlugt with much more pronounced hints of sugar and wood. Could be more interesting but lacks complexity and intensity!

🥃 Back to a sample that my buddy Boris kindly shared with me! El Dorado Uitvlugt / Enmore 2008 – 47.4% This is not a recent bottling, but I had never had the chance to discover it before. It must be said that this series never really sparked the enthusiasm that the very successful Rare Collection did, with references that have become cult like Skeldon or Albion. For this range, El Dorado tried a different approach: blending the distillates before aging. The different rums are therefore aged together in the same cask, a philosophy that recalls some Velier blends, like the superb Enmore & Port Mourant 1998. For this 2008 vintage, we find a marriage between a French Savalle column (Uitvlugt) and the famous wooden Coffey column of Enmore. Here, no pot still: 100% column. 👃 Nose Coconut, fresh nut, and this gourmand framework that evokes some rums from Belize. 👅 Palate Very round, almost creamy. You immediately think of milk caramel, with raisins bringing a nice indulgence. 🏁 Finish Sweet, on molasses and caramel, with a texture still very silky. You can easily find the typical Demerara signature... but also this persistent sensation of added sugar that coats the tongue. This makes the rum particularly accessible, but also erases a good part of its relief and personality. In the end, it’s a pleasant rum, easy to drink and without real flaws... but it never really made me vibrate. At a price around 170 €, I clearly expected more. At this price level, there are in my opinion much more striking Demeraras.

Two legendary stills: Enmore + Uitvlught. Nose: sweet. Dominate of the dark chocolate, woody, molasses, caramel, burnt sugar. After, you can find walnut, cigars, citrus marmalade and dark honey. Palate: first one, it's looking like simple rum – sweet, molasses, caramel, burnt sugar, nutmeg & woody notes. Then, you can feel the dark honey, cinnamon, licorice & tobacco. Aftertaste: long, dark chocolate, woody, demerara sugar.
