Sipped neat at 58,8%, this is a wild ride: overripe fruit and nail-polish ester up front, then a curtain of smoke, olive, bacon and cheese with a dry, acidic bite. Several tasters landed on "cheese and workshop" and meant it as praise. The alcohol hides well — many guessed 50% — but the sour, meaty umami is the star, and it isn't for everyone.

Today again in the glass and rating confirmed! Crazy rum, boiled down to two words: cheese and workshop Blind tasting 12/11/2024 Nose: glue, resin, dirty, orange Palate: whisky, smoky, cough syrup, eucalyptus Finish: medium length, smoky, whisky, orange, eucalyptus Alcohol 58% Rating 9.0 Tip: Bellevue 1998 ----------- Wow, what a crazy nose: cheese, nuts, dried fruits... immediately reminds me of Clairin but has way more! On the palate again very unusual: soft, spicy, sweet licorice, medicinal, a bit dirty. This is a rum completely off the beaten path and the usual categories! The wild aromas are nicely framed by a subtle cask note. The medium-length finish fades with nice roasted aromas and then I suddenly perceive eucalyptus very faintly! The cheese note lingers till the end 😁 Reminds me of the whisky from Säntis Dreifaltigkeit, crazy stuff! I suspect this rum will divide opinions widely. I like it a lot! Thanks Oliver for the sample!

I personally can't drink it😃 sweet, super sour, salty, smoky and fermented/fermented. Quite a wild number and unfortunately not my cup of tea! Especially this sweet and sour cheese note doesn't go down well with me, sorry! 😃🫣

Fermented, ester, pineapple, mango, banana, nail polish, overripe, meaty, nutty, some red fruits, stewed compote with red and dark berries, strawberry, raspberry, lots of blueberry, which I especially like. Very dry. Absolutely awesome and tasty. I really like the Le Galion GA very much

Calendrier de l’Avant RumX, jour 11. Un nez chaud d’esters et de fruits, de la banane, du vieux bois verni et un côté goudron d’isolation. Les fruits attaquent en premier en bouche, mais ils disparaissent assez vite laissant la place au vieux bois verni recouvert de goudron d’isolation avec un côté fumé prononcé. La finale ajoute encore une couche d’amertume de plus en plus forte. Tout à la fin de la douceur tempère ces amers et redonne de l’équilibre.

RumX Advent Calendar Day 11 Nose... Very fruity, gummy bears, strawberries chewing gum sweet, cherries some fruit esters. Palate... At first very fruity, ester strawberries and cherry, shortly afterwards it changes significantly to dry, salty, woody bitter almost musty, developing excellent spiciness and a very complex effect. Finish Nutty and chocolate.

Zumindest mal eine sehr spannende Abfüllung mit komplexen Aromenprofil. Sehr fruchtig nach Erdbeere und Kirsche. Holzig, rauchig, leicht speckig und vergoren. Dazu recht viel Säure, aber es kommt auch wieder das Sherry-Fass durch. Auf jeden Fall interessant, aber mir reicht davon ein 2cl Sample.

RumX Advent calendar 2024, door 11 Crazy stuff with lots of Savannah Grand aroma character and also some High Ester Ling Pond moments. Both seem a bit off to me and I am puzzled. Great variety with fruit, bacon, olive, smoke and some acidity. And nicely dry on the palate. Great, I hadn’t had a matured Le Galion before. I like it 👌

Very fruity on the nose. Cherry and pineapple. Caramel. Very smoky, polish and old dresser. Well balanced and good alcohol integration. On the mouth then very furry, sharp. Solvent, wood. Did I say furry? Short, funky finish. Pineapple and pear. Technically certainly top. I love the smoky nose. But I already suspected it: sucking on a sheepskin is not my thing. 🐑🐑🐑 80s range for craftsmanship and the nose, 50s (pleasant but not enough for the mouthfeel)

RX Kalender 24: erster Eindruck: ein Savanna GA / HERR mit Sherry Finish. Es kommen rote Früchte, Vanille, Tabak, über allem eine leichte Säure. Am Gaumen sehr würzig, Tabak, röstig, aber auch irgendwie anstrengend mit Bratensoße, Balsamico-Essig (fast schon wie die LP TECA, TECC). Ein interessantes , ziemlich extremes Teil! Weit entfernt vom easy sipper!

Time for some samples and som hard Techno, Nose Intense, fruity, olive, citrus, banana, berries, light acidic/sour, light medicinal, ester. Palate Intense, warm, fruity, faint smoke, olive, salt, ester, cherry, light mint, light sour, oily, light wood. Finish Very long and warm, berries, light floral, light mint, iodine, light sour. Empty glass Olive, light smoke, cherry, light citrus.

RumX Advent Calendar 2024: No.11 Very nice and interesting rum, which for me has slightly bacon-like and meaty notes both on the nose and on the palate. I strongly guess Guadeloupe. Alcohol well integrated.

RumX Advent Calendar Day 11. A Le Galion bottled by the old Tabakstube. The nose is mainly smoky and woody for me. On the palate then very rusty and bacon is also recognizable. Unfortunately, cheese is not recognizable for me.

Day 11 of the RumX Advent calendar: What a blast! A great integration of intense esters into fine spicy wood notes. The initial acidity in the mouth decreases with every sip and a successful alcohol integration appears. At the same time, with increasing air contact in the glass, an amazing aroma development is underway. Delicious!

For me the first from this distillery. And I have to say it has something. Even though distinct heads notes are recognizable. The aroma is extraordinarily intense and versatile. You have smoke, a bit of raisin and bacon (great combo) A bit of everything. Definitely worth trying.

RumX Kalender 2024 Day 11: An der Nase Säure, Ananas, Ester. Im Mund mehr Säure, astringent, leicht scharf. Oliven und leichte Salzigkeit. Alkohol präsent, aber nicht überlagernd. Insgesamt sehr kraftvoll alles. Mittellanges Finish mit Oliven, sehr trocken, Säure. Tippe auf einen Savanna GA? Aber recht unsicher.

RumX Advent calendar 2024 door no. 11. In the nose incredibly fruity with all fruits across the palette. On the palate then complemented by on the one hand woody, on the other hand medicinal and then bacon-like notes! The Bamberger smoked beer among rums 🤓

Absolute aroma bomb, intensely tart, spicy, fruity. Impressive complexity, between the classic Grand Arôme fruit esters, olive, bacon, smoke, spices, wood...multi-layered and challenging in a positive sense. Great release.

Tag 11 RumX Adventskalender Schreit erstmal nach Jamaika aber irgendwie anders. Ester vorallem in der Nase mit tropischen Früchten und Gewürzen. Am Gaumen sehr zugänglich mild aber rund. Leicht bitter im Abgang aber erträglich. Alkohol top integriert. Auch etwas rauchig-speckiges schwimmt mit zunehmender Dauer mit. Am Gaumen und im Abgang meint man auch einige Trockenfrüchte zu spüren was mit einem Finish zutun haben könnte Sherry oder dergleichen. Davon würde ich mir definitiv eine Flasche zulegen. Für mich der beste der bisherigen 11 Samples.

Blindverkostung Adventskalender 2024: sehr schöne Nase. Oliven, Ester Klebstoffe, Fass. Am Gaumen zur Nase überraschend sanft. Trotz hohem Estergehalt Schmeckt mir wirklich gut. Auch der Abgang ist ausgewogen und geschmeidig. In der Nachtverkostung immer noch ein Bomben rum

RumX Advent 2024-11 Die Säure zum Start verfliegt recht schnell und es wird fruchtig. Ananas, Kirsche, Erdbeere. Riecht "cremig" irgendwie. Dazu Vanille und Holz und Datteln (?). Im Mund erst ziemlich unerwartet süß, dann recht sauer. Sehr adstringierend. Vergorene Früchte. Recht viel Holz, Tabak und Leder. Im Abgang Joghurtfruchtgummi (sowie Katjes) und weiterhin Holz und Tannine. Gefällt mir ziemlich gut. Was auch immer das ist. Keine Ahnung.

On the nose, it's amazing and appetizing with notes of wood, red fruits and other tropical and dried fruits, varnish, burnt sugar and roasting, leather, umami/meat broth seasoned with Star broth cubes alternating with hints of cheese. On the palate, it maintains the same flavor palette, with the sweet part standing out more than on the nose, also showing vanilla and a slight eucalyptus in the long finish. ABV perfectly integrated, seems to have 50%, I love this profile which resonates with RX12488, in the empty glass meat broth seasoned with paprika, it can be easily paired with many dishes, thanks to Rumtata for the sample!

Adventskalender 2024 Tag 11. Die Nase verrät eigentlich schon, dass es heute nach La Reunion zu Savanna geht. Sehr rotfruchtig und rund, insbesondere am Gaumen kommt diese typische Savanna Holzigkeit dazu. Mit etwas Zeit kommt eine schöne Cremigkeit dazu. Der Abgang ist mittellang mit Erdbeere und wieder dieser typischen Holzigkeit, die noch etwas bleibt. Diesen Rum hatte ich ziemlich sicher noch nicht im Glas. Ich tippe auf einen Savanna Grand Arome, welcher genau kann ich nicht sagen.

Rum-X Advent Calendar Oliver Gerhart 2024 Day 11 I just really like these jams from Le Galion. Esters, fruit, which quite quickly give way to favorite technical nastiness and a lot of smoke. In the end, bitterness is replaced by a sweet note.

An absolutely exciting rum. Fat, bacon-like with cheese and olive. Lots of smoke and maple syrup. A lot is happening here and everything is strong. On the palate the picture repeats. It feels like a strong whisky finish. The base is hard to identify. However it happened, the combination works absolutely here. Tastes delicious and is very balanced in its parts. But it has a lot of steam.

Totally crazy nose of cheese, smoked fish and ham with slight acidity and sweetness. Taste delivers what the nose promises. Very intense with fresh acidity that mainly supports the fruit notes and gives elegance to the umami notes.

Hints of vanilla, roasted caramelized pineapple, joint sealant with a touch of acetone, powerful attack on old wood that tightens the sides of the tongue without burning, ultimately a very nice balance and a good length... could it be because of the galleon's veils!!!!

Étonnante expérience qui m'a fait immédiatement penser à de la nourriture asiatique : des brochettes de viande fumée à la sauce de soja sucrée...... Dégusté à l'aveugle, j'avais beaucoup de doutes : le fumée très présent me faisait penser à Fiji mais le côté citron de l'attaque ne semblait pas correspondre. Le Galion en effet, avec du recul ça y ressemble même si c'est la première fois que j'en goûte un aussi fumé... Je lui aurais par contre donné+60° d'alcool ce qui me fait dire qu'il n'est pas bien intégré. Une expérience intéressante mais pas des plus plaisantes pour moi.
