Sipped neat, this drinks rounder and softer than most Grays — the alcohol's so well integrated at 53% that several members note no burn at all. Expect caramelised red fruits, cherry, dried fruit and a leathery, chocolatey edge, with more wood than earlier Mauritius bottlings. A few tasters even suspect a port finish (the label says nothing). Fruity and easy, if not the deepest single cask.

Again a great Grays here. A bit more on the spicy side compared to the two Perola bottlings, which are both a bit fruitier and more floral. Price-performance is always great with these things and I really like the profile.

Basically once again a good & tasty Mauritius rum from CDI. Maybe I just don't like the 2008 vintage as with the smuggler bottling. Unusually much wood compared to previous bottlings, the typical menthol and grapefruit/red berries note is present but not as pronounced as I know it. Overall rather dry, chocolaty and leathery spicy. Easy to drink but doesn't blow me away. There are better Mauritius single casks in my opinion. Somehow I would also suspect a port finish here, but I'm not sure...

Why didn't I know this rum before? It's really fun! Of course, I couldn't resist comparing it with the already very good 13-year-old from CdI from 2009 (Perola, the one with the Armagnac finish, RX12864). And what can I say? The 14-year-old is simply more drinkable, rounder, fruitier, less alcoholic, in short: more pleasing. And more "typical Mauritius" (keyword "red and yellow berries"). Not much, but still noticeable. Incidentally, it cannot conceal its presumed relationship to the outstanding 2008 New Grove from 20 Vin (RX13081). Many thanks, Alex Kunath, for the sample. Excellent bottling! Where can I get another bottle of this stuff now?

A very good Grays, I have to admit. After Gunnar kept pointing to this country and quite "persistent" 😉 about it, I must confess it definitely has its charm. For me a very successful bottling. Thanks to Alex_K. For the split.

Another great Grays. Compared directly to the Joey Star from Old Brothers, this one is much sweeter at the start, has a bit more wood on the palate and less tropical fruit. What represents peach in the Old Brothers is represented here by caramelized red fruits. Also in a wooden basket, but this one is much older. Grays is great. Gunnar recognized it a long time ago =D Thanks for the sample to Alex K.

Surprisingly round for a Grays! Honestly, I would have guessed a port finish. Unfortunately, nothing like that is stated on the bottle.

My first Grays, and it is a good one. On the nose it is a bit muted at first, but you get some red wine and fruit. This you find on the tongue as well, it was surprisingly fruity (Cherry, Wine, red fruits in general) and maybe a bit sweeter than usual. I think there may be a port finish here, but i do not know for sure. It was mild (very good integrated alcohol, no burn here) and intense (fruity!) at the same time. And while it lacks complexity it is a good drink and a nice alternative to other rum styles.
