Sip this one neat — it's built for the glass, not cola. A softer, lower-ester Hampden: pineapple, overripe banana and a little glue on the nose, then buttery barrel, caramel and toasted nut on the palate. The 48.6% ABV keeps things gentle, almost too gentle. Several tasters call it an easy sipper that's clearly Hampden but light on the funk and a bit thin.

Tasted by Marta at the Precious Liquors stand at GRF 2024. The typical characteristics of an LROK are clearly recognizable and it delivers what it should. The alcohol is not perceptible, which is probably due to the low ABV, which prevents it from achieving a higher rating. All in all, however, it is highly drinkable.

I find it meaningless. It's nothing that stays positively in memory. Nose and palate meaningless. The palate is quite thin and still passable. But the finish is not to my taste at all.

And to finish a 22-year-old Hampden. If only it weren't so flat and had a higher ABV. Very unfortunate. Otherwise also some esters, but again the tropical fruits banana and pineapple, here also some coconut.

#5416 21.06.2025 Relaxing with a few sample while preparing for a private tasting in the afternoon. Nose Fresh, medium intense, light wood, fruity, raisins, light citrus, pineapple, faint smoke, spice. Palate Oily, fresh, medium intense, fruity, banana, light citrus, spice, spicy, light floral, faint smoke, wood. Finish Long and warm, wood, dried fruit, light banana, light pineapple, spice, light clove. Empty glass Light caramel, light chocolate, vanilla, raisin, banana. German Rum Fest 2024 sample.

Hampden without hesitation. Low ester, citrus and yellow lemon. A little exotic fruit, with pineapple becoming increasingly present. On the palate, very pleasant, low in alcohol, following the nose but also with an ultra buttery, caramelized side. Close to roasted hazelnut. Soft, round, very caramelized finish. The pineapple is still there! Pleasant, but lacks depth and power.

Typical Low Ester Hampden that brings a rich bouquet of tropical and citrus fruits as well as some esters/glue on the nose and palate. The finish gets a bit hokey with spices. Despite the long aging, no banger, rather an easy sipper.

I had hoped for a bit more, but all in all it's okay. The alcohol is well integrated, more aging time would probably have meant a massive drop in quality. So it remains a generic LROK with funk and esters, overripe bananas and pineapple are present - but unfortunately the punch is missing. Good sipper, but nothing more.

Very light on the nose due to the LROK marrow, fruity but not the typical estery nose. A beautiful interplay of overripe fruit on the tongue. Butter and acidity on the back. Quite a dry finish. A different intensity than many HD but still typical HD.

More typical Hampden LROK notes here. Overall think it drinks well despite the lower than typical ABV. Nose is all pineapple and light treacle with some glue. On the mouth we have pineapple and buttery barrel influence, just a hint thin but still enjoyable. Finish brings more spice than I was expecting with warm coconut. Solid but many better Hampdens out there
