Precious Liquors Foursquare The Broken Trident 2006
Wilder and rougher than the polished Foursquares you might expect. At 63.3% it comes out swinging — solvent and alcohol on the nose, then caramel, coconut, vanilla and dark chocolate wrestling with heavy toasted-oak and roasted notes. One taster found it "way more powerful" than lower-proof siblings, with a few edges the ECS bottlings smooth over. A few drops of water tame it.

7,5:On the nose, the first impression we get is roasted and very alcoholic. It needs time to settle a bit when we notice dried fruits, nuts, cocoa and medicinal notes, that linger from our first impression. We are going towards meaty, resinous, sap notes, through come finally real Bajan notes with bourbon yellow fruits, woodiness, butterscotch, some tropical fruits, citrus and sweet spices, perhaps some coconut. But just for a while, when weird umami/Maggi notes cover that temporary deliciousness. We are currently on the dark side... Chocolate and nougat come much later, after resting. Wild, uncontrollable nose. 7,2:On the palate, the first attack is very opposite of the nose, as it is light and dry with citrus, dried currants, yellow fruits, toasted wood and dried fruits, some spices, mixed with some roasted, medicinal, burnt notes. It becomes quite tanninic. Not very Bajan right now. Luckily some bourbon, overripe fruits join to neutralize quite unpleasant tannins. As we are hit by resinous, meaty/umami notes, as on the nose, but they are not very tempting. Finally we come to more Bajan side with coconut, vanilla, warm baking spices, fruits, caramelized with confectionery and some musty/ashy notes... Again, wild, wild West... 7,5:The finish is tastier, long, at first very dry and woody with dried fruits, the wood becomes tastier, toasted, also the coconut with some caramel and warm with sweet spices. Not worthy very much, expected much more, very wild with unpleasant edges... Needs long rest for taming.

In direct comparison with RX16902 which is the same age but has an slightly lower abv (57%) the Trident is way more powerful and has mainly sugar, caramel and vanilla as it main ingredients in different variants. The alcohol is also a bit overwhelming and a few drops of water are advised.

I don't think these ratings do this rum justice. I think it's really great. Nice nutty nose with cocoa and spice influence. The palate is dominated by (dark) chocolate and some wood and vanilla.
Review by Beancheese
Tasted alongside 5 other Foursquares and this was the least favourite. Lighter in colour, this one had a touch of alcohol and solvent on the nose along with some wood and sweet vanilla like notes. On the palate there was nice heat and intensity upfront, then the flavourful mid (caramel, spice, wood, dried fruit, vanilla) and then it just dies. Not bad by any means, but the least impressive.

Wow, a great PLV for a Foursquare! It has the typical aromas and tools to inspire you. However, it also has more character than some ECS bottlings, is more edgy and not as pleasing and mainstream
