Dead Reckoning Rum Foursquare Barbados (Port Broadside Series) 2012

Coconut leads on the nose — then vanilla, oak and a wash of caramel, with the port finish showing as dried plum and red fruit. It's a Foursquare that got interesting because Dead Reckoning played with it. Rich, almost syrupy on the palate, but at 52% the heat sticks around, and a few tasters felt the alcohol never fully sat down.

Port-finished Foursquare, rich but runs hot A well-liked port-finished Foursquare — most agree the cask lifts it above a plain single. The recurring gripe: it runs hot, and one tester found the value hard to justify.

Without the finishing, it would probably just be another good but boring Foursquare for me, but the way Dead Reckoning played with it, we have a pretty interesting piece. The finish is very overwritten, but I didn't mind it at all.
