Very round and tasty Cuba single cask and finally something in cask strength! Most likely sancti Spiritus! Great bottling and totally under the radar! For me one of the best older Cuba cask strength bottlings to date...

If you imagine a very classic full powered Spanish styled rum. No sugar. You'll get this. Nothing surprising but still very well made..so yeah classic. Vanilla. Caramel. US oak. Coffee. Toffee. Thick. Warm. Dram Mor is a great small Scottish bottler. Seems they really have an eye for good single cask rums.

For me this was significantly better than Havana Seleccion de meastros which is my main reference point for Cuban rums. On the nose it has what you might expect a simple sweet caramel and woody profile. On the palate I got a strong plum/ orchard fruits note alongside caramel. It isn’t complex but it is very tasty and undemanding. Tasted as part of a UK Rum Club Dram Mor tasting hosted by the excellent Kenny McDonald of Dram Mor.

The nose has lots of oak with notes of malted barley, dark chocolate and black coffee. Something floral in the background too. The palate has a big, smoky and sweet tobacco notes. There's also hazelnuts and a pinch of saltiness. The finish is medium in length with a pleasant dark chocolate and maple vibe to it. A little smokiness remains. Easily the best Cuban I've reviewed so far. But it's not a style I tend to gravitate towards. Easy to drink with an enjoyable taste.

It's not easy to find a Cuba rum in cask strength. The dram Mor is very chocolaty on the nose. Then slightly burnt caramel comes through, followed by green fruit. The palate is a little overwhelming. Very smoky and also a lot of tobacco. Apart from that, I can't perceive any aromas separately. However, the alcohol is well integrated. The finish is long and intense. Exciting rum, I'll try it again when I've had a bit more practice.

The nose is rather spicy, but also with a bit of solvent. In the taste the sherry cask adds the sweetness of prune, but also a touch of rubber which continues in the finish.

Cuba and cask strength... very rare in the trade... I like the nose quite well, some fruit, some caramel, malt and chocolate. The palate is classic Cuba... nutty, roasty, cask, some dark chocolate and a quite dark (burnt) dominating sweetness. The finish then reduces the whole thing to cask and burnt sugar. The alcohol is perfectly integrated. Personally, this bottling is too one-dimensional for me

The key data made me very curious. Cubans are becoming more and more popular, it seems. Unfortunately, I haven't had a really good one yet. This ron is dominated by the PX cask. Otherwise, there is a dull interplay of aromas of dark chocolate, tobacco and burnt sugar. The alcohol could be better integrated. I continue my search for THE Cuban. Thanks @BananaJoe for the sample.
