Renaissance Deuxième Cru Classé Cask 2019
High-ester hunters who already love Savanna HERR are the natural audience here. This Taiwanese pot-still rum throws out gooseberry, strawberry, kiwi and passionfruit, then a red-wine cask layer from the Médoc that several tasters compare straight to Savanna. At 66.7% it's intense, a little salty and medicinal, and that wine finish is the dividing line.
- Loud gooseberry fruit
- Savanna-style esters
- Surprising from Taiwan

How does Renaissance Deuxième Cru Classé Cask 2019 taste?
Aggregated from 20 community reviews.
Fruity high-ester rum with bold wine finish Most tasters find it fruity, intense and genuinely surprising for Taiwan, with strong Savanna-style ester notes. The recurring catch: the red-wine finish runs too dominant for some palates.

I can finally hold it in my hands. It's not easy and not cheap to get hold of a Renaissance. Individual bottles come via DK, UK and FR. Of course, it's better to buy it in Taiwan if you have the chance to be there. I just had that chance and even then you can't buy the rum anywhere. If you live in Taiwan, you can sign up to a list on fb and secure yourself a bottle. Friends of mine kindly did this for me and so I now have two bottles, one to share (already done ☺️) and one to enjoy... The distillery is experimenting with its excellent rum and various casks. This one was matured in a higher quality red wine cask - the second highest class in the Bordeaux classification - from the Médoc. The result is a multi-layered and intense rum... Nose: intense and powerful. Very fruity, sour-sweet, almost floral, with an interesting medicinal side note. I find lime with grapefruit, gooseberry with kiwi, redcurrant with passion fruit right at the forefront. Behind this is a cloud of lavender and lilac. The impression of ginger and maple syrup somehow goes well with this. There is also an artificial note with a strong, sweet nail polish. I really like it. 9.0 Palate: oha, the 66.7% is immediately noticeable. Very intense and strong, somewhat acrid. Salty and slightly bitter at first, before the sweet and sour fruitiness comes through again. Clearly passion fruit, kiwi and gooseberry with a little lemon zest, slightly fermented. Only after this can some red wine aroma penetrate. There is a clear similarity to some Savanna wines. Definitely meets my taste. 8,8 I was captivated by the small and fine Renaissance Distillery with its fantastic base spirit and great casks. And then this amazing label on the back with all the information you could wish for. Totally great!

These typical intense strawberry and high ester HERR notes come through, especially on the nose, but also on the palate. The finish tames it somewhat and the wood comes through. Many thanks to Frank for sharing!

Intense, fruity and distinctivly different to stand out. Wine finish is a bit to dominat for my taste, but overall very nice indeed.

Hammergeil, intensiv nach Stachelbeere. Normalerweise nicht so der der erste Eindruck. Sehr interessant

Wow!

Franconian Tasting Gang Actually not bad, but doesn't really get me fully. Nice to have tried, but unfortunately not quite my profile. A little too bitter and medicinal for me. Probably the red wine finish is too dominant for me. But it could also be because I've tasted so much before. I might try it again at the next opportunity. Thanks Jarek for the sample for this round.
