Romero & Sons Solera Especial
One taster summed it up as some of the least "rum" they'd had in a while, and the reviews mostly agree. The nose runs alcoholic and rubbery, almost tequila or fruit-schnapps in character, with overripe plum and a little vanilla showing up later. At 48% it stings, and the consensus is clear: skip it neat, put it in a cocktail.
- Overripe plum notes
- No off-flavors
- Works in cocktails

Aggregated from 60 community reviews.
Sharp, schnapps-like Ecuadorian, better in cocktails Most members find it sharp, schnapps-like and short on real rum character. A few catch dried fruit and vanilla, but nearly everyone says use it in cocktails, not neat.

Ganz okay dieser Rum. Hat eine leicht alkoholischen Gedchmack. Wollte ihn erst etwas schlechter bewerten, hab dann aber gemerkt, dass er über dem Standard ist mit seinen 48%. Von daher, kann man bringen.

From the Days Of Rum box 2023. Somehow saved this for last. Not the best I guess. Nose: alcoholic. Tequila/mezcal. Weird. Unbalanced. Not very interesting. Taste: bitter. Burnt sugar. Vanilla. Better than the smell. Still no spark for greatness. Not the worst rum, far from the best. Very uninteresting and no deeper layers. Next!

Day no. 10 of the 24 days of rum calendar and I suspect this is the one that I will hate instantaneously just by smelling it. Let's not jump in to conclusions however 👃 is very alcoholic reminding me of a fruit home made booze full of fruity flavors and sort of bitter whiff of a penicillin. Taste: Yup I don't like it. It is very very very much like w home made ,,palenka,, or a booze, schnaps if you like. A little bit sweeter full of fruity aromas such as mirabelle plum or plum in general and peppery spices such as black pepper. It is not bad don't get me wrong but not for neat sipping. Could be great in cocktails and I can imagine having a shot to help the digestion. Naturally this one comes with a long finish due to prominent taste.

Sample no.10 of the 24 days of rum calendar 2023. High ABV at 48% which is very sharp on the nose. Hard to get anything else than an alcoholic tequila aroma. After it sits for a while some dried fruits and sweet raisins comes through. Palate is rich in overripe fruits, vanilla and oak barrels. Fruity and spicy with a sting from the alcohol.

Part of 1423 "24 days of rum" Christmas rum-calendar. I found a vegetal, lemongrassy nose and I got notes of lemongrass and a hint of grass or roots. This might be good in a cocktail, but I wouldn't recommend it neat

Not good to sip, maybe ok for cocktails but i dont drink cocktails. Alcoholic nose and taste, strong and nonpleasure finish. It is like young rum or unaged at all.

Sorry, I haven't tasted so little "rum" in a long time: initially a little rubbery on the nose, few impressions on the palate and the alcohol burns in the chest for a while in the finish. However, because there are no unpleasant off-flavors (if you exclude the rubber), I still give it 5.0.

"So apparently the league of indistinguishable central and south American rums have a minor league as a runner up. This has some flaws on a technical level that makes me appreciate those big standard rums a bit. When I put the eau de vie tag there, I do not mean good one. But the really cheap stuff."
