The thing that surprises people here: it drinks older than its eleven years. This Versailles pot-still Demerara leans on molasses, dark chocolate, dried prunes and espresso, with leather and a bitter-coffee edge on a long finish. Several tasters find it sweeter than a classic Versailles — one calls it "surprisingly easy-drinking" for 59%. A few note the finish goes a touch one-dimensional on bitter coffee and wood.

Tasting at J. B. Labat. A full nose of nutty butter, molasses, young leather, prunes and spices. Heavy, dark aromas on the palate with molasses, brown sugar and bitter caramel. The aromas tend to evolve on the palate, which is very interesting, as the bitterness and spice strengthen and disappear in turn. The finish is long but too one-dimensional, with bitter coffee and heavy but not overpowering oak. A very fine release from the Guildive cellar.

Lots of molasses sweetness, caramel, some fruity aroma probably due to the VSG-Marque. Either in the barrel or aftertaste probably came into contact with some additional sweetness, which benefits the easy-drinking profile. Pleasant to drink without demanding much.

Tasted three different Versailles together with DomM. The highlight of the evening after the disappointing Velier Beenleighs and the La Favorit. All three were very good, although in retrospect the Rum&Rock, which I had given an 8.5 at the time, was more herbal, with a profile similar to the 91 KFM. I find the TWCC and Cave Guildive more typical. But all three were very good and saved the evening.

Very interesting rum. If you know it's a Versailles, it makes more sense taste-wise. Blind would be difficult. For me, it goes in the direction of the REV profile. The overall picture of the rum is totally right, there's a lot to discover. I enjoy drinking it.

8,7:On the nose, strong molasses, dark with black tea, soy sauce, Demerara sugar, charred wood notes with roasted nuts, leather, spicy with umami, allspice, dried fruits with prunes, citrus fruits, copper, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, the molasses is herbaceous, flowery, earthy, vegetal with celery, dark, thick with licorice, syrupy, buttery, red fruits are out, perhaps iodine and coffee. 8,5:On the palate, the attack is thick, slightly bitter with molasses, dark with licorice, black tea, soy sauce, later flowery, minty, with hints of eucalyptus, metallic with copper, the wood is charred with caramel, dark chocolate, coffee, leather, spicy with allspice, pepper, fruity with prunes, tropical(banana), citrus fruits. 8,6:The finish is long, dry&tannic, with musty, flowery molasses, dark with black tea, licorice, vegetal with eucalyptus, fruity with prunes, cherries, perhaps berries, as the wood is toasted with gingerbread, espresso, treacle, spicy with allspice. Pub LiQ Bar Düsseldorf March 2025. This time the Guyana from Café Guildive. Very intense nose, you can smell it from a meter away. Wood, barrel, and leather are recognizable. On the palate also leather and dark chocolate.

#4803 09.08.2024 Relaxing with some samples. Nose Fresh, wood, light roasted, faint coffee, cherry, light caramel, plum. Palate Oily, wood, faint smoke, light coffee, faint caramel, plum, light cherry, balanced, spices. Finish Medium long, oily, prunes, light caramel, light cherry, light roasted. The empty glass has nice herbal and mint notes as well as light leather notes.

Heavy on burnt sugar, mocca and dark chocolate. Some dried fruits. Pleasant overall. Not very heavy on classic Versailles herbal notes. I like it nevertheless. A nice and intense younger Guyana bottling. More please.

A good sip. Very pleasantly buttery and spicy on the nose. On the palate then the typical Demerara tones of roasted malt with coffee and chocolate. Also dried plum. Nicely complex. The alcohol is well integrated.

Expressive Versailles with classic Demerara character, but sweeter than initially expected. On the nose, dark fruits, licorice, herbs, and a slightly waxy note, plus a direction reminiscent of REV. On the palate balanced with molasses, wood, spice, and a subtly bitter edge that gives structure without dominating. Overall a solid, well-made bottling with decent depth and a coherent profile.

Super awesome rum. Definitely a highlight of the Father's Day gathering! You can really feel the long aging, the cask aromas therefore harmonize well with the fruit flavors and caramel. For the young vintage, a really awesome rum

Full broadside of pepper, dark molasses syrup, dried plum, dark bittersweet chocolate, strong espresso/mokka notes and light fresh, bitter eucalyptus hints. Nice thing! Alcohol well integrated and surprisingly easy to drink.
