Review by cigares
Rum and chocolate tasting by Rum Club Switzerland. A nose of bitter herbs, unripe pineapple and yellow fruit (sour apple). The palate is rather sweet, with a refreshing menthol note. The finish is clearly disappointing, with a lingering taste of wood, but this is the only taste that remains, the other aromas disappearing too quickly. The empty glass is very vegetal, with the scent of old hemp rope. A fine nose and a nice entry on the palate, but the finish is clearly below par.

At first sniff, the fresh oak and its solvent note reminiscent of drying wood glue made me briefly think of a very fruity bourbon. On the palate, however, it is unmistakably an agricole, with juicy sweet grass and tropical fruits joining hands, although the wood also has a significant say. The slightly musty, rotten woodiness in the aftertaste is a slight drag, but otherwise I really like this rhum.

Pleasant, with a profile structured around barrel aromas but not devoid of fruitiness. A certain freshness completes the picture, with of course the spices typical of agricole. The 48.6° goes down very well. However, it lacks gourmandise.

Spicy, some wood and leather. Herbal, spicy notes. Nice Agricole profile, for me a tad better than the sister cask, despite (because?) lower alcohol strength. PLV also top. Alcohol well integrated.
