My RumRatings review from 6 years ago: The rum is powerful on the nose without being intrusive. It combines fruity notes with spice and a light caramel sweetness. Oak is present. Wine notes are also recognizable. The nose is fruitily sweet and successful. On the palate, the rum is smooth at first. Trinidad starts with tropical fruits. Then comes a spicy, woody barrel note with some sharpness, which releases aromas of berries and a pleasant sweetness, which then dominates the finish. Quite elegant without being boring. The 48% are well integrated here and yes, the 18g sugar helps. The rum lingers pleasantly and vanilla oak notes bid farewell to the rum. Not a typical 2002 TDL. But the Tawny Port finish harmonizes well with the Trinidad rum. The cognac cask is rather subtle. A nice rum for beginners or for casual enjoyment. It doesn’t demand much but is also not too boring. The rum is sweet but as a rum drinker who prefers it rather dry, I can clearly say it’s not too sweet. And with well under 60€, the price is right.
