Saint Eloi Spirits Savanna Rhum Vieux Traditionnel (Les Chais Saint Éloi 88) 2011
If you already know Savanna and want the softer side of the house, this 12-year molasses rum is worth a look. Despite the "traditionnel" label, several tasters find light ester and fruity-gummy notes creeping in, alongside plum, marzipan, light wood and a floral, faintly medicinal edge. Complex but a touch off-balance — the finish runs short and drying, and the 49% shows through more than the number suggests.

How does Saint Eloi Spirits Savanna Rhum Vieux Traditionnel (Les Chais Saint Éloi 88) 2011 taste?
Summarized by AI from 15 community reviews.
Complex Savanna, softer than a Grand Arome A well-liked but divisive Savanna: some love the fruit and complexity, others find it watery, astringent and hot for 49%, with a short tannic finish letting it down.

I like it very much! I don't really believe in traditional. It tastes more like a Grand Arome with nice fruity gummy bear/high ester notes. Beautifully complex!

I like it significantly less compared to the 43% St. Eloi. This one is more on the herbal side and less fruity, also seems rather watered down and is quite astringent, sour, and unbalanced in the finish....

#4899 Whisky Live in Paris 27.09.2024-30.09.2024. Another great event meeting a lot of RumX new and old friends. This year three weren't as many new releases as in 2023, but I still had a great time. Nose Fresh, light wood, faint smoke, light marzipan, plum, light pear, faint floral. Palate Round, light wood, faint roasted, light plum, faint marzipan, light floral, faint pineapple, light vegetal. Finish Medium long, light wood, medium dry, light spicy, fruits, light pineapple, faint tobacco. Pretty nice bottling but nothing spectacular.

Rums from the Savanna distillery are among my favorites. I recommend everyone try especially the ester-heavy pieces like Grand Arome or HERR. You haven't felt so much fruit in just a few drops of liquid for a long time.

The bottle is glamorous. This rum takes me back to Reunion Island, with the smells and tastes of that island. There's spice, fruit, exotic wood, floral, smoky vanilla and masse pain. The finish is soft and floral, with a hint of violet. This traditional rum is a welcome change from the high esters so popular with Savanna enthusiasts.

Very pleasantly surprised by this Savanna, red fruits predominate at first. A tart raspberry candy. After a long aeration, notes of olives and esters emerge. A fine tasting, albeit complex, that leaves no one indifferent. On the negative side, I think the alcohol is too strong for a 49%.

Much nicer than the 10-year-old. A fruity, mineral nose. On the palate, the minerality fades a little. Pepper and ginger appear. My main complaint is the finish: short and tannic, you can't really feel anything... Too bad, otherwise it would have been very good!

Surprise, unusual but all the fuller taste. Medicinal and nutty tones, heavy spices. This is rum for a whole evening drinking.
