Glue, nail polish and fermented tropical fruit hit first, then virgin oak brings vanilla, spice and a bit of cream pudding. Several tasters would have guessed Jamaica in a blind pour. Young but well put together, with the 65% oddly easy to miss. A few find the sour, citric edge a touch much, but most call it a "schön dreckig" Fiji with real funk.

#4735 05.06.2024 A nice afternoon with Michael and a few good rums. Nose Fresh, intense, light wood, peach, fruity, herbs. Palate Fresh, intense, light roasted wood, fruity, herbs, light chocolate, light citrus, light honey. Finish Medium to long, warm, spicy, medium dry, fruity, faint chocolate. The empty glass had nice herbal notes to it. Very well balanced considering the age of the rum.

Alcohol is really surprisingly well integrated despite the short maturation time. The nose with slightly burnt plastic as is often the case with Fiji unfortunately is not my thing at all. Taste-wise then surprisingly "balanced". Dark chocolate, salt lemons, fried artichokes and generally it feels quite "oily" and thick. Interesting but not my taste.

This is a cool and powerfull bottling. Nose: Ester, glue, nail polish, funky, trop. fruits, citrus and a strange plastic note. Palate: Ester, fruity, roasted almonds, honey, spicy (due the young age) Finish: is medium-long, fruity, woody, astringend, tobacco and black tea

Respect, it makes an impression...for its young age, it comes across as mighty self-confident... strong ester aromas, honey, tropical fruits and wood on the nose. The palate is creamy and oily, with spicy, woody aromas complemented by honey and fruit (gooseberry). The wood influence continues on the finish, combined with spice and minimal fruit acidity. A successful bottling!

The virgin oak works very well on the nose. Vanilla, sweetness and cream pudding from the cask working nicely with the classic Fidji dirt and some fruits. Nice showing in the palate as well. Intense influence from the Virgin oak works very well with the Fidji profile without being to one dimensional. Nice bottling

Edit: I've now tried it again as a mixer. I find it really great and even more palatable in taste. That's why I've adjusted it upwards again. The second Honeybatcher is really great. My respect, what a great drop. Great price/performance ratio. The 65% is almost imperceptible, which in turn makes it dangerous. In a blind tasting, I would probably have guessed Jamaica rather than Fiji. A clear buy recommendation from me. It also works well as a mixer, which I will try out.

8,6:On the nose, the first impression we get is medicinal with esters, glue, nail polish and fermented tropical fruits like banana, pineapple, some citrus and roasted wood notes, spicy with cinnamon and clove. On aeration, vegetal aspect arises, grassy, herbaceous, red fruits and smoky, cheesy, yoghurt like tones with plastic touch. 8,7:On the palate, the attack is very fruity with fermented tropical fruits like banana and citrus fruits, funky, medicinal with esters, some wax or plastic notes, dirty, as the wood is roasted, smoky with chocolate, caramel and confectionery, spicy with vanilla, cinammon and salty with bacon, otherwise balanced, the molasses brings grassy, herbaceous tones and some olive, honey.When oxidation does its job, licorice confirms presence😉. 8,5:The finish is long, dry and tannic, with palate notes lingering on, with tobacco and black tea, stronger confectionery like biscuits... A great alcohol integration 🙂.

Super intense nose, about like the RA New Yarmouth second Edition. Besides fruit esters, there's also vanilla but the esters dominate clearly. On the palate also very intense and fruity. The finish fades relatively quickly for such an intense rum. For such a young rum surprisingly good, clear recommendation for ester freaks!

Great Fiji rum with wonderfully integrated alcohol (despite the 65%), which is really fun! The relatively short maturation in virgin oak casks brings a great spiciness without masking the fresh basic character (lime, esters) of the rum.

The 2020 vintage reminds me of the top 2001 vintage in its basic profile. It already has a lot of potential and power. Occasionally a slightly alcoholic note sneaks in, but this is a top bottling in terms of price-performance. Nicely fruity, citrus notes, honey, young wood and slightly dirty. Brings a pleasant acidity.

So... on early New Year's Eve evening we're all a bit closer to the date line... Time for the new Honey Batcher from Fiji 🇫🇯 There are bad Fijis like sand by the sea, but here is once again a nice vintage. Very young, but thanks to the Virgin Oak really a cool successful maturation. The rum brings back a lot of what you appreciate in the 2001. Wax, plastic, fruit, funk. Really tasty, nicely dirty and great price. For me, the Fiji Honeybatcher tops the Ghana by far and has a really great price-performance ratio. Hats off Fabi!

Another Honey Batcher rum and its already smells promising on the nose. On the nose: Oak, tropical fruits, esters, glue, spices like light vanilla. Little bit of honey notes and citrus notes. Balanced. Taste: Woody, spicy, fruity, esters and some honey notes. Light smoky notes. Light herbal notes. Very balanced for two year old rum. High abv is present but the alcohol is integrated very well. Finish: Woody, light fruity notes, tannings and honey notes. Then it gets dry and you get some oaky notes, roasted notes and black tea notes. Ok, another great rum from Honey Batcher. If it makes sense, tastes like it has been way for longer than two years. Looking forward to check Honey Batcher rum selection at the German Rum Festival this year.

Honey Batcher Fiji, initially very citrusy on the nose. Reminds me of some kind of wax. Generally very fruity with a bit of glue. On the palate, it's almost too sour for me. Lots of sour fruit and subtle spice dominating the finish, adding oak too. Not bad, but too sour for a good one in my opinion.

I'm a bit torn. After the Famille Ricci Fiji, the Honeybatcher comes across young and wild. Slightly sharp on the palate. The 65% is clearly noticeable. Considering its age, I have to say it comes across quite soft and complex for such a young rum. I quite like it, but no comparison to the Famille Ricci.

Despite only two years of aging, surprisingly intense. Esters, tropical fruits, glue, and a bit of nail polish meet honey, citrus, and spicy wood. The 65% ABV is excellently integrated. Young and a bit tart, but very characterful and aromatic.

Top-notch rum from Fiji that would definitely make me guess Jamaica in a blind tasting. On the nose, esters and tropical fruits are very dominant; wood and spice come afterwards, as well as a buttery note at the end. On the palate, the wood is more intense; still, the esters are very present. The finish remains very fruity but also a bit sharp due to the high ABV. Alcohol is very well integrated.

Oh wow, for me a fantastic rum. A nice note of tropical fruits and citrus fruits. Really delicious. You hardly taste the 65%. The alcohol is perfectly integrated into the rum. A real top rum. Delicious.

Wow! Great rum, quite floral and fruity on the nose, but brings a good punch on the tongue. That's probably also due to the alcohol, which is very well integrated. The fresh oak barrel adds very pleasant wood aromas and rounds off the package fantastically - it's hard to believe it wasn't aged for 3 years. Top! Thanks to Zabo for the split, once again.

I haven't had such a young Fiji in the glass before. The glue DNA is clearly recognizable even though the influence of the virgin oak is naturally noticeable, which makes the 65% quite drinkable. The wood doesn't come through too strongly here either. Nice dirty profile that makes you happy.

Alcohol is really surprisingly well integrated despite the short aging time. The nose has slightly burnt plastic and honey. Taste-wise surprisingly "balanced". Dark chocolate, salted lemons, feels quite "oily" and thick. Very good sipper, I like the Fiji taste👌🥃

Very interesting young Fiji. The nose is typically High Ester with tropical fruit hints, here papaya. On the palate, a completely different picture. Rather bitter, medicinal with slight acidity. Somehow it doesn't fully convince me. Maybe it needs a few more years in the cask.

On the nose distinct fruit but above all solvents, nail polish and plastic and something sour. In the mouth then mild at first, becoming stronger with good fruit and strong spice, the finish is long, fruity, spicy. Alcohol is well integrated. Yes friends, I like this one!

Wow, I have to honestly say great Fiji from nose to finish, really nicely aromatic. Wood with nice plastic and ester notes, plenty of fruit. Especially noteworthy is that everything is incredibly balanced.

For its young age, it comes across surprisingly complex. On the nose ester aromas, tropical fruits and distinct wood. Taste-wise oily and spicy woody aromas, but also esters and fruit. The finish is dominated by the wood and somewhat too much by bitter substances. Price-performance ratio top, a beast.

Wow, great piece. Honeybatcher really knows his stuff. In blind tasting I would probably have guessed a low-ester, young Jamaican. Daily sipper. B Alcohol is super well integrated. Not terribly complex, but nicely spicy.

A pretty nice funky expression from Fiji. Sweet fermentation, vanilla slowly evolves into a much drier, earthier flavor with a hint of licorice and oak. It’s quite spicy but in an inviting way. For such a young rum I think it’s well balanced and worth the price.

Nose: Light, pleasant ester and funk notes, a bit of varnish and a certain alcoholic sharpness. There are also spicy oak and a slightly dirty, workshop-like character. The esters are clearly present but feel different than in Jamaica. Palate: Mango immediately stands out clearly as the main note, followed by banana, tropical fruit, and a pleasant, light sweetness. The rum is exceptionally oily and sits nicely on the palate. With some time, clearly noticeable oak, spicy cask notes, and a slightly meaty, savory component emerge. I really like the base substance, but the alcohol is not yet integrated finely enough for me. Finish: Warm, spicy, and fruity, medium to medium-long. Mango, banana, esters, oak, and the young alcoholic sharpness linger. Conclusion: An exciting, young Fiji with a great oily texture, lots of mango, banana, and an interesting dirty-savory side. With a bit more aging and better alcohol integration, this would be a very strong rum for me.

Read full review ›With the Honey Badger's second strike, the bottler remains true to its line and hits the mark aromatically. This time even more so than the Ghana Rum. Everyone has to decide for themselves what they like better, but for me Fabian has gone one better. The experiment with the Virgin Oak is interesting. It is well known that these new barrels quickly contribute a lot of barrel aromas. However, the fantastic fruity notes remained, especially on the nose. Then they dipped briefly, only to shine through again in the finish. Of course, I didn't witness the maturation process, but I would say that a much longer time in the barrel wouldn't have made the rum any better and it was probably taken out of the barrel at its peak. And it makes me look forward to the future as far as rum from Fiji is concerned, because it seems to be a good vintage, of which hopefully some is still slumbering in other barrels.
