Agricole drinkers who like their cane rum rounded and oak-led rather than grassy and sharp will find their bottle here. Ten years in bourbon barrels give it a pâtissier nose — caramel, butter, vanilla — with apricot and orange over the sugarcane. The palate turns oily and round, with spice, wood and a bitter mandarin-peel edge. One taster even compared it to a good single malt.

#4896 Whisky Live in Paris 27.09.2024-30.09.2024. Another great event meeting a lot of RumX new and old friends. This year three weren't as many new releases as in 2023, but I still had a great time. Nose Wood, light roasted, faint bourbon, fruits, light orange, Agricole, light herbal, faint floral. Palate Wood, Agricole, light orange, faint chocolate, light anise, medium spicy, oily, light floral, light sugarcane, light bourbon. Finish Long, balanced, Agricole, wood, light roasted, medium dry, oily, light vegetal, faint citrus. This is a lovely rum and I think the price matches what you get.

Well, this one goes off the beaten path, but I don't know if that's a good thing. Lots of flowers, vegetal, a bit of sugarcane. But mainly apricot and mandarin leading the dance. A medicinal or gentian side that is not exactly exciting... surprising but not convinced - at 70€ it's cool, but at 150€ it's crazy.

Tasted this single cask from the Poisson distillery during the Rhum Fest Paris 2026. To be honest I expected a little bit more from this one, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad. It’s an 10 year old rum, vintage 2013, with 8 years in bourbon barrels and 2 years finish in Champagne barrels before bottled in 1800 bottles. The nose is round, fruity, sweet, woody and roasted with scents of apricot, orange, caramel, sugarcane, butter and bourbon. At the palate it’s round, woody, balanced, sweet and fruity with flavors of caramel, sugarcane, orange, citrus, vanilla, licorice and some oiliness. The finish is rather long.

Iodized and buttery nose, brown sugar, some orange and apricot notes. Ultra clear color for a 10-year-old. Palate, worn wood matching the color, timid iodine that gives way to a strong bitterness on mandarin peel, and its little mouthwash effect. An herbal note like gentian in the background. A hint of indulgence that flickers at the end of the palate (meaning it disappears quickly). Quite a persistent length I find, with menthol notes.

Père Labat dresses up as Men in Black for one of the roundest editions in its premium range. The bourbon barrel aging is obvious on the nose, with caramel, vanilla, and butter offering a very pastry-like profile. The roasted wood, apricot, and sugarcane remind you that this is a rum from the French Antilles, not so perceptible on the nose, and it's pretty nice to see variations of the sometimes too conformist agricole style. The palate reveals a somewhat more conventional aromatic palette with orange, honey, spices (chili, vanilla), and sugarcane at the forefront. The wood and herbs are a bit more present but let an oily and round profile take over on the palate, balancing everything out. The alcohol is well integrated. Compared to the Silver Opus, this profile is a tad less refined but not without interest. The finish is moderately long, nicely oily with more pronounced spicy, roasted, and vegetal tones. Citrus notes come in at the end to balance things out. Despite this slightly sharper finish, the profile remains drinkable, quite old, and marked by its atypical aging—not better than the Silver Opus but the price is a bit lower, which is not negligible at this level.
