Sipped neat, this drinks easy and sweet: lots of vanilla, honey, toasted wood and a bit of tropical fruit, with the 50% alcohol tucked in well. Most tasters call it a pleasant, round sipper that never quite gets complex. The Fiji "funk" people expect is missing here, and the cognac-cask sweetness runs the show. Some also find it flat and one-note past the nose.

26.08.2025 Retasting and I still find it a pretty good release. ---------------- Had a great Plantation tasting experience yesterday and here is the second one of the six we had a go at. This is an impressive rum from Fiji that deserves people give it a chance. I will definitely add this one to my shelf. It could have been a little more complex but still a very good rum. Watch out for South Pacific Destillery in the future, I think they will make more great ones. Price to quality is very good.

RumX Advent calendar Day 2 Disappointing rum, little going on there. A bit of coconut, nuts and vanilla. At first I thought about some awful continental aged FS I had in the past, but pairing this one performed even worse. Not a bad taste, simply nothing to be noted here and not enough to get a positive evaluation

Edit: tried again as a warm-up for the REV 2006 series. Remains a nice sipper, but nothing more Day 2 RumX Advent calendar All in all a solid rum. Not bad in taste, more in the easy sipper category. A nice entry-level rum for me. Blindly, I wouldn't have put it in the Fiji category. But thanks for the selection, I would probably never have tried it or looked out for a sample.

Rather discreet Fiji. Fruity, woody and vanilla. Not very complex. Surprising nonetheless, as it doesn't have the usual esters of the Fijian rums I know. Very affordable. Nice, but nothing more. Lacks length.

I definitely like it better than the latest one time fiji bottling from plantation. Cognac cask and Fiji glue battle a bit on the palate, a nice rum with a very fair price for the release. Retasting in the Rumx calendar Nice pleasing Fiji rum which I scored a little better blind, so I'm raising the score here by one point. Great plv for the release.

Vanilla, some toasted wood, honey, chamomile notes, a hint of fruit. Pleasing, but a little too weak on the chest - in my opinion, there is too little aromatic depth overall.

I have had much better Fijis in my glass (most recently the outstanding LMDW 2001), but I must also say that the one-time limited bottlings from Plantation offer good value for money.

Part four of my Fiji session! Here I save myself a detailed evaluation! Is the nose initially still pleasantly fruity..he loses extremely on the palate and in the finish...there is virtually nothing left...it all seems pretty flat and one-dimensional! Too bad, this is disappointing

Calendar #2 / blind: Lots of vanilla, wood, roasted aromas, dates and a bit of ham. Very sweet on the palate and even more vanilla. A few raisins and the dates from above and quite a bit of wood. In the end warm, vanilla, sweetish, candied ginger. The alcohol is very well integrated. Not particularly complex, but balanced and what it does, it does very well 🙂

#24DaysOfRum2023 - Day 2 On the nose initially extremely light. Some citrus, some spice, some sweet espresso. I thought it would be a good idea to let it breathe for a bit, to develop some more potent aromas, but in a matter of minutes it turned completely flat. Alcohol-soaked cardboard, not much else. No amount of agitation could reawaken it. Luckily a little more fullness on the palate, but still too one-dimensional and with little to no complexity. The cognac influence is a tad too overpowering, and as a result the Fiji soul is overran by the malty sweetness. The finish is short and cloyingly sweet. Checking other reviews I notice scores with high variance. I’m dumbfounded.

Quite an unexciting rum that doesn't really correspond to a typical SPD. Initially pleasantly sweet with vanilla & roasted aromas, it becomes slightly bitter & peppery towards the end. Not very exciting with a short finish (fortunately?), even as a sipper too edgy and unbalanced, so it fails for me.

This is my next one from the One Time Limited Edition. As it seems to be sold out in Germany in spring 2021, I ordered it at at the great Exellence Rhum Shop in Paris. The first impression of the nose ist very sweet of vanilla and caramel, after a while some sweet fruity notes come through. The taste is more divers, way more complex with ab alcoholic and strong spicy attitude. But the fruity notes are still very present. The finish is long, warm and spicy with a little sweetness. Great Rum and I am glad that I finally got my hands on this one.

Lots of vanilla, roasted, nutty, syrupy, dry finish, somewhere there's also a bit of apple, coconut, and some coffee mixed in. It's quite foursquare-like but not entirely. The alcohol brings a good sharpness. I thought it was an English Harbour High Congener.

RX Advent 23 day 2 Was pretty confident that the rum comes somewhere from Latin America. Quite sweet, with some chocolate vanilla and coffee notes. Abv quite light, doesnt have the distinctive burned plastic notes I know from couple of other SPD releases that I tried before.

One of my favorite column still rums. This bottle can really stand up to the quality of some of my favorite pot still rums from Fiji while still having a completely different character. If I could compare it to another rum, I would say this taste like a perfected Doorly’s 12 year, so if that’s your cup of tea, I highly recommend seeking this out.

This Plantation Fiji pleased me quite well, without really standing out. It is quite well balanced, but not particularly complex. The alcohol is fairly well integrated. The finish is average, even short.

RumX Advent calendar 02.12.23: I'll start. Today there is a profile clearly dominated by a vanilla-like sweetness. Alongside, noticeable cask influence, I would guess longer continental aging (>12 years?). It's not a profile I'm very familiar with, probably also because I don't particularly like it; the vanilla sweet tone is just too dominant and gives the rum something sticky, especially in the finish. Strength could well be around 60%, alcohol is not badly integrated. I'm struggling to place it more concretely due to lack of similar references, but I could imagine more of an “outsider” like Privateer, Belize or similar. For me definitely the weakest rum so far, does not match my preferences at all. I'm curious... Edit: Would never have guessed Fiji. Compared to the 2001s, definitely a less interesting profile.

Very indulgent rum nose and palate. Far from the usual profiles for Fiji. The caramel, vanilla, and tropical fruits are indulgent and very pleasant, but it lacks character. The finish is average and very pastry-like.

Very fruity smell that spreads quickly. It is dominated by rubber and tropical fruits such as tangerine. Taste for Fiji less salty-sour, but also very fruity. Overall very tasty and good, but compared to others again a little bravura (possibly by the dosage??)

The aroma is more fruity than the taste, which is more spicy.Ginger clearly present. Think it's a nice rum to make a dark'n stormy with (although maybe it's just a bit too pricey for that?), but certainly also to just enjoy pure.Addition: let it rest for a while! Enhances both aroma and taste.

A very good column still rum. It’s a good sipper with decent body and pleasant flavours like berry and cognac. I wouldn’t pick it over a pots still of the rating, but if you like an easy, enjoyable sipper, this is for you.

Sharp on the tongue. (50.2) lingers. Raisin in the smell. Losing in taste. Woody undertone. A small fine slap in the face. Awakens far less surprise than expected. Surprisingly simple on the finish. Hard to silky in overall length.

Nose: pleasant notes of honey and on coffee, but rather unobtrusive. Palate: alcoholic attack that lasts long. Cognac impressions with simultaneous bitterness and strong wood notes. Minimal raisins present. Finish: woody, bitter and a hint of smoke at the very end.Verdict: Quite unobtrusive on the nose, distinctly alcoholic on the palate. Takes too long for the flavors to assert themselves. And these are then also quite monotonous. The 44% from Plantation is clearly ahead.

very unusual flavor profile... somehow not quite mine and also not quite round... feels in the mouth as if he wants to go everywhere but gets nothing so right... alcoholic a bit spicy, coffee flavor a bit too dominant and the funk that I know of Fiji otherwise is unfortunately missing completely :(
