Sip this one neat and slow — it's a wild ride. The nose throws olives, brine, dried herbs and a whiff of yeast, with red fruit and red wine underneath. The palate flips it: olive water and brine up front, more red fruit, a malty, almost whisky-ish edge. At 55% it's savory and salty far more than sweet. One taster nailed it as "not typical of a rum" — and that's the whole point.

Another Renegade. Wow very different from the Antoinne. Red fruits/red wine in the nose. Yeasts. Just a bit vegetal. Spices. Wood. Nice. Taste: Its the other way around. Vegetal. Olive water. Brine. Red fruits/wine still. This hits different boxes. A bit malty/whisky-esque too. Somehow very different than most aged Renegades I tried.

An odd nose of dried olives and herbs, tropical wood and yeast. Not at all typical of a rum. The palate is also very marked by olives, a fermented side and brewer's yeast. Not bad, but not at all to my taste, although I welcome the search for originality.

26/07/2026: sample tasting @ home. The aroma is vegetal and a bit yeasty, and is really not my thing to be honest. The palate is better, with notes of red fruits wich were surprising. I have yet to find a Renegade that I find enjoyable.

Renegade are not my favourite rums and here it is confirmed again. I can smell the sweetish taste of prawns, which just doesn't suit me with rum. But it's definitely more drinkable for me than the HV Renegade, where I'm not even able to finish a glass.

The smell is nothing like New Bacolet. It's kind of bland, a little dried fruit, a little saltiness. The palate is also more subtle and approachable. At the same time, it's not a memorable piece, which is a bit of a shame. I would take it as an aperitif, though.
