Foursquare Private Cask Series Mystique (The Whisky Exchange)
Members keep ranking this above other Foursquares in head-to-head tastings, and you can taste why. Caramel, vanilla and toasted oak sit on top, with a sherry-driven edge of dried fruit, dark berries and even a "slightly dirty" funk creeping in. At 62% it drinks surprisingly easy, though the tannins and wood push hard — a few drops of water settle it. One reviewer called it life-changing.

#4594 29.01.2024 Relaxing at home with this nice sample I received today. A rather intensive rum wich settles a bit with a few drops of water. This is a pretty different profile with a lot of punch. I like it a lot but I think this one will split the waters a bit. Rest for a long time or add a few drops of water. The tannins are close to taking the first row here ☺️ Nose Intense, balanced, wood, light roasted, berries, faint mint, light caramel, light sherry notes. Palate Lightly oily, balanced, complex, wood, medium roasted, tannins, fruity, light mint, faint caramel. Finish Warm, wood, light roasted, tannins, dried fruit. The empty glass has some light chocolate and light camphor notes. Will see if I can get my hands on a bottle.

Today, both the Foursquare bottling by Wolfgang Klotz and the PCS bottling Mystique were tasted. Both have the typical known Foursquare notes and, as expected, both are at a high level, as usual. As a conclusion, I like the Mystique a bit better.
Review by Tschusikowsky
A very good Foursquare. Very drinkable despite its high ABV. Basically normal FS markers. In the finish I have more fruity, peach notes which I like. Even slightly dirty tastes are there. Only in the finish it seems a bit flat.
Review by Basti
Good and surprisingly drinkable Foursquare despite its 62%. The sherry cask influence is noticeable but not too dominant for me. Otherwise, the typical FS DNA with coconut, caramel, and spices. I like it a lot.
Review by Johannes
Somewhat metallic, lacks a little depth. Quite alcoholic in the finish and lots of column.
Review by Dr.Django
Great Foursquare, 2 cl are sipped away very quickly here. The risk of topping up is enormous. Typical Foursquare aromas are accompanied by intense roasted aromas and dark fruits. A slightly longer finish and a more intense "oily" mouthfeel would put this Foursquare in the top class for me.

The pleasant aroma of red fruits and berries brings a very fresh note to the familiar Foursquare spectrum - I like it very much, it actually offers new flavor nuances that fit perfectly into the overall profile.
Review by Beancheese
On the nose there are all the hallmarks - caramel, woody, sweet vanilla and almost butterscotch notes with some fruit mixed in for good measure. On the palate, a suave lead in followed by some nice intensity. This one is a very nice Foursquare. Wood and spice, some bitterness but yet still delicate and balanced. Tasted alongside 5 other Foursquares and this one was likely top pick of the night.

For me, the winner today against the 2011 and the Covenant. Overall the most balanced. The influence of the oak barrel is noticeable here too, but it is much rounder than the Covenant. I quite like the sherry note.

The nose immediately senses the Foursquare origin. Could also be a Doorlys 14y. The taste is then beautifully deep and complex. Toffee, roasted hazelnut aromas, vanilla, caramel. Alcohol really well integrated. Nice long finish. The vanilla gently eases you into the evening - great rum!

There isn’t much to say, a really nice Foursquare with the aspects one would expect, being balanced but also not overly complex. Only the alcohol I find a bit too present for my liking. Is it worth the current price (300€)? Definitely not, for that money you can get two or three bottles of the same quality. Only downside: They would not be a „The Whisky Exchange“ exclusive. But what do I know… :)
Review by Schnubbii
I find the Mystique quite intense in terms of the sherry influence, but also in terms of the tannins and the wood and the associated bitterness. You have to like it, but in my opinion it stands out positively from the rather unspectacular Foursquare Shibboleth and Covenant. Personally, I'm happy to be able to get a bottle here thanks to the community.

In the nose is a blackcurrant, lemon peel, vanilla, oak wood. The taste is slightly sweet, velvety creamy, and is easy to drink. You can taste it an oak wood, spices, a little bit of sherry, citrus fruits. The finish is long with a sherry, spices, and wood. The alcohol is incredibly well integrated. A truly excellent rum.

For the first time in a long time a Foursquare that really convinces me. Typical Foursquare notes, supplemented by significantly more caramel, light roasted notes, tannins,... Nice thing. You could treat yourself to a bottle again.

Wow, quite a board for a Foursquare! On the nose, light sherry and dark fruit, very strong impressions of wood and roasted elements. On the tongue it's really round, a very room-filling bouquet, you unconsciously want to puff out your cheeks. Comes with the typical FS notes, but also rather dirty and with a lot of bang, not as pleasing as one is used to with Seale's distillates. The finish is almost fruity, reminded me of an overripe nectarine, almost funky

This rum showcases the classic Foursquare style with elegance and intense richness. The nose opens with layers of nuts, tea, and fruity notes like apricot and plum, along with subtle hints of coffee and chocolate. The palate reveals dark chocolate, crème brûlée, and a touch of citrus balanced with creamy toffee, adding a pleasant sweetness. The finish is long and satisfying, with notes of orange, honey, and wood. An impressive and elegant rum that embodies Foursquare’s renowned quality.

😁Our mild one slightly reveals alcohol, dried fruits, bourbon, and vanilla and coconut caramel and molasses, buttery cookie taste, coconut vanilla slightly spicy ginger, chocolate dried fruits, spicy and woody notes. With water bourbon coconut cookie, vanilla and caramel in taste, beautiful sweet sherry with notes of bourbon full of dried fruits with vanilla.

Really really delicious rum wow. Smoother than many at 52%. Super intense. Now bottle open a few months it’s really really starting. To become delicious. Strong recommend. It has reignited my old love for barbados, which can be as intense and lovely as Guyana or Jamaica
Review by Ted95
nah this rum is crazy . it’s worth the money . the nose is so brilliantly balanced between a wonderful treacle/caramel component with a healthy dose of blackberry starburst and stewed apples , all backed by a soft edge of coconut and slight hint of oak. The palate is spice galore at first, it starts gingery and slightly cinnamony , then proceeds into a dreamy combination of toffee and tobacco box reminiscent flavors. All of this is so beautifully combined with a pineapple/blackberry fruitiness that lingers longingly on the finish and a slight bit of spice and oak that surfaces but does not overpower the finish. Incredible and might ruin my bank account. This is a life changing rum for me.
