One taster called this a "sehr intensiver und kräftiger Long Pond" — and that's the honest shape of it. Give it time in the glass and glue and ester lift into tropical fruit, mango, vanilla and caramel, with a woody, spicy backbone from the tropical aging. At 66.1% it hits hard but rarely turns harsh. A couple of drinkers wanted more fruit and funk on the palate, where it swings spicy fast.

Once again a very intense and powerful Long Pond from 2005. On the nose first strong glue and esters, after a long standing time, vanilla, caramel and tropical fruits follow. On the palate the 66.1% Alc. cannot be hidden, but are manageable in small doses. On the palate I miss the pronounced fruitiness, it switches too quickly to the spicy side. That denies it the top group. But just barely, it remains an excellent Long Pond with an impressive rich appearance.

The nose is very inviting with tropical fruits, cotton candy, cinnamon, vanilla, a bit of glue, caramel. On the palate nicely intense with a perfumed start, fruity notes, vanilla, caramel, and a pleasant sweetness. The alcohol is well integrated and not disturbing. I like it - like all the 2005 VRWs I've tasted so far - very much!! Edit: Tasted again against the RDL 68.5%. On the nose both very similar and hardly any differences to spot. At first, the RDL brings a bit more glue, which settles over time. On the palate, the RDL is a bit spicier and with more cask influence, the TWB initially with slight floral hints. For me, both very good bottlings!! The TWB has, in my view, a super price-performance ratio!!

Edit: brauche Nachschub Nachdem Habitation Velier LROK 2019 ex Sherry cask, eine wirkliche Wohltat für meinen Gaumen. Bringt noch mehr mit, wie ich erwartet habe. Klasse Abfüllung. Den Rest aus dem Sample nochmal als Mixer probiert, auch hier überzeugt er.

High abv - patience is required at first. Slowly, fantastic tropical fruits greet you and delight you with beautiful aromas. There is also a lovely roasted note. The first sip is mouth-filling but with a good bite. In terms of taste, it is mainly mango that comes through later on and it lingers beautifully. A lovely long pond that needs time to develop. Be sure to smell the empty glass.

The rums from Dr. Django outdo themselves today. This Long Pond is really awesome too. Despite 66%, the sweetness is immediately recognizable on the nose. Vanilla, caramel, and brown sugar, incredible. On the palate, some esters come through, a top rum, I still can hardly believe to feel a pleasant sweetness at 66% :-)

Today three different VRW LP 2005 bottlings in the glass. Bottle shop & RumX Community: They are very similar in profile and very complex. For me, the Community bottling is a bit more intense and voluminous on the palate. The Whisky blues: Also very complex and somewhat Spanish-inspired. More astringent on the palate than the competitors and longer in the finish. Much woodier and with more chocolate notes, but a bit less fruit. All three brilliant rums!

8,8:On the nose, glue, some rubber, funky, barrel impact is noticable, roasted wood notes like caramel, nuts, spicy, meaty, coconut, minty molasses, grassy, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, plums, yellow fruits, hints of currants and mango arise, rubber, oak presence is strong, winterly impression with allspice, pastry, fruitcake, brown sugar, candied fruits. 8,5:On the palate, the attack is strong, slightly alcoholic, medicinal with light esters, glue, fruity with citrus, yellow fruits, coconut, later, hints of passion fruit, mango, grapefruit and orange, dried fruits.The oak is roasted, sweet with caramel, nuts, pastry, spicy with vanilla and allspice, tannic, dry, as the molasses is vegetal, flowery, herbaceous, dark with black tea, slightly minty. 8,4:The finish is medium long, dry&tannic, less fruity, with strong oak, toasted, spicy, nutty, medicinal with glue, rubber hints, fresh molasses with tea, hay hints. Very intense and eater forwards on the nose. Solvent and chemical notes as well as lots of tropical fruits (with some time in the glas). Very nice. Even better on the palate. Lots of funk and tropical fruits. Balanced by notes from the cask and a bit sweetness. Very nice bottling overall.

After the Precious Liquors RX / BottleShop LP VRW 2005 (12tr, 6ko), another 2005 LP (12tr, 5ko). At the beginning a little woody or old barrel on the nose. With more standing time tropical fruits, glue, vanilla, caramel, the LP gravy. On the palate, the ABV really pops, plus sweet and sour spice. I remember liking the RX / BottleShop bottling a little better.

Due to the high alcohol content, quite powerful and intense, but never sharp or overwhelming alcohol-wise. A very nice Long Pond, whose profile oscillates between intense esters and spicy cask notes, which appropriately reflect the 12-year tropical aging with woody character and load the rum with many spice notes.

Delicious, well tropical-forward Long Pond with lots of spiciness, tropical fruits and caramel. I really like it but for me it still ranks behind the 2006 RumX bottling. Still, you can take a bottle without hesitation.

The nose is inviting and open, with red fruits, glue, tropical fruits, and some tea. Blind, I wouldn’t necessarily think of Jamaica here. On the palate, there is a nice tropical ripeness with pleasant sweetness. Fruit compote, pipe tobacco, and concentrated aromas shape the profile. There are also light smoky notes, some mint, and a well-integrated wood influence. The style is interesting: at times, the rum reminds more of a French molasses rum with T.D.L. hints than a classic Long Pond. The tropical fruits and esters are present, but blind, I wouldn’t have guessed Long Pond. Overall, a very successful and tasty rum that I really like.

Packs a punch, a strong rum for sure (which I like). Tropical fruits. But I expect more funk from a Long Pond, maybe it's this mark. It's good but can't score this really high because of the mouth and finish. Nice fruity nose, more herbal in the mouth and a short finish.
