Dark chocolate, tobacco and a whiff of peat smoke sit on top of Santa Teresa's soft solera base here. The Speyside finish is the whole story — several tasters say the whisky cask takes over the nose and palate, giving a lightly sweet, mildly spiced sip with fruit lingering underneath. Whisky drinkers tend to enjoy it most; a couple found it one-note, "a bit too sweet" without much depth.

Oh yes, this is a beautiful Santa Teresa. You can't complain. We have a little dark chocolate and some wood on the nose. The palate is also slightly sweet, again dark chocolate and some wood, plus a little tobacco.

#5806 29.09.2025 Day three of the Whisky Live 2025, which this year looks better organized/arranged inside. This is also a sweet rum but I do like that they used a speyside finish. The smoky notes are there blending very well with spices, wood and some chocolate notes.

Tested at the Caen Spirits Festival 2025. The first rum in the range didn't excite me. This one is worse. The whisky takes over the nose and palate. So you end up with a whisky that's a bit too sweet. No depth. Not bad either, but without much nuance.

The Speyside is a complete step-up from the regular 1796. It's quite enjoyable. If you're a whiskey lover, this one is a great experience due to the speyside effect. It's smokey, lightly sweet, with a light spiced kick to it, and some fruits lingering. It's not the most complex rum characteristically, but it's definitely a great sipper with good flavour.

Caramel and toffee aromas. The flavors do not match the scent, however, and here I get more of the whiskey cask than anything else. There was an initial burn, but it then levels off to something more pleasant.
