On the nose the WDC presents itself a bit less vibrant and a bit more towards wood and vanilla versus the excellent Nobilis bottling - at least from memory this is, as a cross tasting is yet to come. On the palate: brilliant. This is just very good and hits very much what I was hoping from this bottling. Intense basket of tropical fruit with just the right amount of notes from the bourbon barrel to round out the edges a bit. Excellent stuff and great bottling from WDC. I feel those 2014 <>Hs are in a very good place after 8-10 years of aging. Exited to see what is yet to come from that vintage. Next round: Side-by-side of ten recent-ish 2014 <>H bottlings: On the nose the bottlings are pretty much on a comparable level. RumClub and Family Ricci take the crown today, showing a bit more fruitiness relatively speaking. Overall the bottlings with some reduction provide noticably less intensity. I prefer the higher/full proof bottlings here. Again, on the palate the factor to set the different bottlings apart comes down to fruitiness and alcohol integration. Among the lower ABV bottlings the V&M Star(h)um takes the crown with TWJ coming in second. The difference in ABV is even more pronounced on the palate with the full proof version clearly ahead. Overall winner here is the RumClub, followed by Family RIcci again. Most balanced with lots of funk yet also a good amount of cask impact and good alcohol integration. All in all non of the bottlings is bad in any way. There are only minute differences in the bottlings and the winner might change on another day. I‘m very curious to see how the vintage will develop over time - assuming we‘ll see some more bottlings in the coming years.

Intense, dirty Hampden, quite wood-accentuated for its young age. Has a surprising amount of roasted aromas, almost subtly reminiscent of bacon, then lots of marzipan and baking spices. Alcohol surprisingly well integrated. Overall, however, a little too tannic for me personally

Edit: tore open another fresh bottle to mix on Father's Day. Very refreshing, fruity CubaLibre. It's a real pleasure. Franconian Tasting Gang on 02.03.2024 In comparison, once WuDram from the already opened bottle, as well as a sample that was bottled directly after opening. In contrast, a longer-opened Nobilis, the CoR, the HV 2006 and the rum from Morisco Spirits were tasted. It seems that this is once again a super <>H vintage. In conclusion, the WuDram from the opened bottle tasted better than the fresh sampel. Otherwise, the differences are very small.

Previously had the Hampden Sta(r)um from V&M from the same vintage. The WDC is less palate-flattering, but much more adatring and demanding. A broad Hampden board where you get exactly what you expect. But nothing more.

8,8:On the nose, the hype is strong, with intense estery, fermented, overripe tropical fruits and varnish, a bit on roasted steriods. We get banana, pineapple marmelade out of it, on the second wave, we are hit by bourbon notes with yellow fruits and going towards pastry with some burnt sugar and marzipan, vanilla. When the rum is oxidized, some bacon finds its way out, also cinnamon, ginger, gingerbread. Well rested, candied caramelized fruits, cocoa, prehaps chocolate and prunes make some mark... At the end, there are rubber and some parfum... Complex, but balanced. 9:On the palate, this is a pure perversion.... With estery, sweet, overripe, fermented tropical fruits marmelade(banana, pineapple, papaya) and glue. Quickly it becomes syrupy, dry with some wood, dried fruits, a bit astringent, moving towards roasted side of this rum with honeyed roasted nuts, some vanilla and other spices...Becoming more and more delicious with candied fruits, maple, burnt sugar. After nice resting, we get some twist with salty notes, bacon, tar and little smoke... Another twist is with some lime and quite intense tannins long after our first sip... 8,8:The finish is dry and woody, tanninic, fruity with some citrus, caramelized nuts and honey. Edit:15.5.26

Today a little crosstasting with the CoR <>H 2013 and the WDC. There is no clear winner here, but they are very similar. It rather depends on personal preference. The WDC is quite brute on the nose with full Hampden essence...on the palate it is much tamer than the CoR. The finish is also somewhat softer.

Once again a very good selection from Wu Dram Clan. Stronger <>H with lots of esters and fruit. Pineapple, kiwi, banana and some marzipan. Slight woodiness barely noticeable but still there. What was still rather restrained on the nose really picks up on the palate. Nice and funky, impetuous as I like it. A fruit bomb in May Tai, highly recommended to try. Cheers

First, I noticed the beautiful curtains on the glass wall: thick drops slowly and sluggishly running down. On the nose hardly any sharpness but a tick on practically all Hampden checkboxes. Also develops nicely in the glass becoming fruitier and the buttery note comes through more. On the palate first lots of glue and after a second or two the other aromas roll over the tongue accompanied by a fruity sweetness, saliva flow starts. Very well integrated alcohol. Transitioning to the finish wonderfully marzipan comes through but also olives and a bit of salt. A very good, intense Hampden. No sensory surprise but at a very high level.

Crosstasting with the 2014 <>H from Bottleshop. At the WDC, the ester notes are clearly more intense, tropical fruits (pineapple) therefore take a back seat. Hardly any wood or cask aromas can be found. Alcohol is very well integrated in both. In my view, the finish is a bit softer. Edit: interesting to read a review from the early days. The rating remains, even though I refined the flavor markers a bit.

I like it, that's how it should be. The tropical ageing makes this type of rum so much more interesting. I think the degree of maturity here (especially on the nose) is very well done. Beautiful esters and fruits with almonds and bacon, but also enough maturity and influence from the cask. Excellent bottling 👌

24.02.2024 Great tasting event at Whisky Watcher with food and lots of bottles. Retasting and I just love the balance and smoothness. ------------------------- #4610 09.02.2024 Nordlichter treffen. An extremely well rounded <> H kind of mellow in a way. Nose Fresh and well rounded, overripe fruits, fruity, ester, light polish, spice, Palate Intense, well balanced and rounded, fruity, light dry, ester, light glue, naturally sweet. Finish Long and warm, wood, light roasted, citrus, ester, naturally sweet.

Yes, yesterday again a first-class Hampden. Really tasty. Alcohol perfectly integrated. That's how rum has to taste. The banana is clearly to be smelled and tasted, generally rather fruity. But the barrel is also clearly recognizable.

The nose is quite complex with the typical high ester markers in the form of fruit esters, some glue and nail polish, trop. Fruit, citrus, olive, marzipan and vanilla/butter aromas. Slightly astringent on the palate and predominantly fruity and spicy notes. Beautiful bottling with good PLV.

Yes, also a very nice Hampden, no idea where we are right now. 11 out of 16 or so. But you can taste the ester flavor quite clearly. Otherwise this rum is simply top. Order it :-)

Another nice high ester in a glass. The three guys have a good hand with their barrel selection. Nose: classic Hampden, classic <>H. Very intense, esters without end with sour-sweet fruits, mainly pineapple and kiwi as well as lime. The esters go hand in hand with glue and solvent, but are tempered by honey and a slight meaty baconiness that almost has a smoky note. Very nice and worth 8.7 points. Palate: wow, very powerful, intense and properly astringent. The glue is here even before the esters. In addition to the clear pineapple, it also has something coarse from young wood, i.e. slightly bitter, a little green, a little rough. There is also a subtle umami note. Not a completely smooth high ester, a little edgy, and therefore interesting. 8,8 A nice explosion of flavor after a long break.

Nice bacony smell on the nose. Otherwise, a beautiful high ester profile, the tropical maturation of which is already apparent from the smell. Full power on the palate. Great marrow. More and more pleasing from sip to sip.

2014 Diamond H just seems to be a great marque / year and I am really curious how these casks develop within the next years. But let’s proceed: Really strong ester but more on the fruity side yet close to solvents and glue. That’s the spot! Ripe fruits, a lot of pineapple, vanilla, some honey and a little bit of young wood. Everything you need for a great Hampden. In direct comparson with the 2014 H CoR I find the Wu Dram bottling a bit too dry, less sweeter and overall a little bit less balanced. We are talking on a high level here but still the CoR is definitely my favourite one.

Nice high ester, fruity and wild Hampden ... Hampden is a distillery producing incredible smelling rums. That's why part of its production is used as a base for perfumes. I recommend to taste the smooth and yet tastefully incredibly rich rums older than 20 years, or very young rums with a high ester content called DOK. Don't be afraid of high alcohol content ;)

Not my favourite Hampden - this one is a little too bitter and intense for it to be something I would choose to sip on or buy a bottle of. That said, every Hampden is an experience and an adventure and this is no different. Aside from all the regular stuff you’d expect from an ester heavy Hampden, you also get some of the savoury, bacon note on the nose and palate.

With the 2014 Hampden you basically can't go wrong so far. The Wu Dram release also convinces. Nice fruit note, noticeably more acidity than my reference from Ricci. Marzipan, some wood. Alcohol is well integrated.

A real fruit bomb, very pleasant apricot and ester on the nose. Young wood with lots of fruit and really pleasant sweetness. Alcohol is well integrated but you can definitely feel the strength. Very tasty

Nice experience, a very good hampden and, despite the watts, very well-integrated alcohol. Bcp of fruit sure-ripe esters, solvent, and a very nice length. I really liked this juice 🤩🤩 Shame to only have a sample to taste, a bottle wouldn't have bothered me 😅😂

Very concentrated on the nose, it becomes beautifully creamy with caramel popcorn aromas over time. The profile continues on the palate. Alcohol super integrated. Creamy with a lovely sweetness, a great Hampden that is not too strenuous but simply enjoyable.

Small Hampden Tasting same mark different age. The relationship is clearly recognizable. However, the Wu Dram here is quite brute. The nose is quite sharp with plenty of esters and vanilla as well as a good amount of woodiness. The taste is similar, but all in all lacks a little more fruitiness. The finish is very bitter.

Very nice complex rum with an incredible fruit on the palate. Nose is nice and fits well. The astringency in the mouth bothers me a bit. But I think that's a matter of taste. You can also like it if you like that😁 Gets better and better in the glass over time.

Small taste at the hotel. The Highester from the clan immediately spreads its charm in the room. The first nose after pouring is usually biting due to esters combined with the quite high ABV. After breathing, then beautiful overripe fruits, buttery, a nice sweetness of marzipan and a slight spice towards baked apple I would say. You feel its young age, it lacks a bit of depth, intensity. It has its nice sweetness from the wood here, plus fresh young tropical fruits, spicier and woodier towards the finish. On the one hand too young, on the other hand it would have become too woody if longer. So actually, perfectly timed. ;-)

Young wood and inviting esters on the nose. On the palate, a nice ester pack, banana and pineapple. Compared to the CoR <>H 2013, however, the WDC here is a little more tamed and also lighter overall, which makes it a little more boring for me in comparison. The CoR is a little wilder, more bitter, saltier and "more meaty", which makes it a tick more appealing to me. But the WDC here is also a great bottling and a fine example of a successful high ester Hampden.

Interesting rum with nice round and intense wet, so fresh funky ester, dry fruits and glue, notes of vanilla. On the palate follows wet, intense taste of ester, vanilla, a bit woody but very intense, alcohol well integrated, a good harmony between dry and sweet, nice oily consistency. Finish warm but not too long, with lacquer vanilla notes.

A very nice nose of well-ripened, sugar-laden tropical fruits. Really gives the impression that the palate will be very creamy. The palate is below expectations, lacking a bit of complexity and depth. Also no notes of roasted nuts. It's good but linear. As often with WDC, a choice of cask inferior to other bottlers, but for a higher price.

Wu Dram Clan <>H 2014 – 67.3% A Hampden distilled in 2014, bearing the mark <>H, one of the most emblematic of the distillery — synonymous with high ester content. Aged 9 years in bourbon cask, including 5 under tropical climate, it was bottled at cask strength at 67.3%, in a limited edition of 232 copies. Release price: about €140. The nose, surprisingly restrained for a high-ester, reveals banana, pineapple, glue and solvents. The palate, dense and oily, shows marked astringency. You find the classic markers: banana, varnish, glue, and black olive. The finish is long, dominated by notes of burnt wood. A rum a bit too young and bitter for my taste. The palate lacks relief, a bit too raw and wild. 💬 I'm a bit disappointed.

Wu Dram Clan brings us more and more beautiful rums😍 another good pick! Nice load of esters, tropical fruits and some barrel notes that develop into a nice interplay on the palate. Alcohol is very well integrated, simply a great Hampden with power!

Nose: First strong tropical fruit basket (pineapple, banana, coconut, mango), followed by ester/glue, somewhat sharp Palate: Fruity again, but immediately overpowered by ester and sharpness. Alcohol not well integrated even though it was bottled at a strong 67.3%. After reading the reviews here, I had to compare it with the Ricci bottling of the same vintage and strength. For me, a different world, simply because the alcohol is better integrated there and I tasted more.

The five years in the tropics seem to have given the rum a very good foundation. I think it has at least matured very well, because the fruity aromas are very well preserved, but you can also feel something from the barrel and the alcohol integration is also very good
