Aged-agricole drinkers who want the grassy Marie-Galante style but leaning drier and woodier will find their bottle here. Four years in cask at 53.7% gives oak, allspice, raisin and prune, with pineapple and a touch of warm crushed cane underneath. One taster caught milk chocolate and raisin. Balanced and not over-oaked, though a few felt the finish falls a little short.

Rhum estampillé brut de fût sur la gamme premium, ce VSOP tente de faire valoir son terroir dans sa prime jeunesse non diluée avec un joli bouquet de fruits tropicaux et d’agrumes frais au nez, rejoint par les épices (piment). Les arômes sont relativement doux, notamment les raisins secs qui apportent un peu de singularité au nez. Le profil VSOP est un peu hybride car le boisé n’est pas trop marqué et les notes végétales ne sont pas dominantes, ce qui donne un profil équilibré en pleine transition dans son style. L’équilibre est de mise encore une fois en bouche avec de nombreuses épices qui prennent les devants, suivies du bois, des fruits secs (raisin, pruneau) de l’ananas et de la canne à sucre végétale mais encore chaude du broyage. Les saveurs sont homogènes et même si on sent que les watts s’expriment un peu plus (ce qui n’est pas plus mal en soit) ça manque un peu de fond et d’expression. La finale est plus sèche sur le chêne et les sonorités agricoles qui résonnent en bouche (herbes, agrumes, fruits secs, piment). Elle n’est pas des plus marquantes et nous laisse un peu sur notre faim hélas. Ce rhum brut de fût est plutôt pas mal et relativement abordable en termes de prix, mais ne suscite aucune émotion particulière, aucun brin de magie qui lui permettrait de se distinguer clairement de ce qui est déjà proposé dans le même style par la concurrence.
